In this issue of Neuron, Priebe and Ferster describe the direction selectivity and spatiotemporal organization of excitatory and inhibitory inputs to direction-selective simple cells in cat visual cortex. Their most surprising finding is that inhibition shows the same preferred direction as excitation.
