Abstract:
The general theory of electrophoresis and sedimentation of two-component equilibrium systems, A ⇋ B, is described. An approximate analytical solution and illustrative calculation for the special case where the rates of reaction in the two directions are equal, are presented. These calculations indicate that resolution of the schlieren patterns into two peaks should occur for times of electrophoresis less than the halftime of the reactions.
