Abstract: | Extracts of various parts of the queens of the Oriental hornet, Vespa orientalis F., have been investigated using column and thin-layer chromatography and ultraviolet spectroscopy. Five fluorescing and two u.v.-absorbing, but not fluorescent substances have been isolated. The fluorescing substances are xanthopterin, isoxanthopterin, biopterin, violapterin, and an unknown pterin, the nonfluorescing ones adenine and hypoxanthine. |
