Allozyme variation in the fruit flies Dacus tryoni and Dacus neohumeralis (Tephritidae)

Abstract:Electrophoretic variation in four specific proteins, an alcohol dehydrogenase, and an octanol dehydrogenase from adult body homogenates, an esterase from adult heads, and a tyrosinase from larval hemolymph, is described for laboratory populations of two sibling species, Dacus tryoni and Dacus neohumeralis. For each enzyme, a number of test crosses between different electrophoretic forms provided evidence that the observed variation was due to segregation of alleles at one structural gene locus.
