Abstract: | The mutant C-2A'of the unicellular green alga Scenedesmus obliquus accumulates the chlorophyll-precursors protocbloropbyllide and the already eslerified protochlorophyll when grown heterotrophically in the dark. Two derivatives of protochlorophyll. monovinyl protochlorophyll (MV-PChl) and divinyl protochlorophyll (DV-PChl), were isolated from dark-grown cells of mutani C-2A'and characterized by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. Their molecular masses were determined by plasma desorption mass spectrometry. Both MV- and DV-PChl were mainly esterified with geranylgeraniol. However, some esterification with the more saturated alcohols dihydrogeranylgeraniol. tetrahydrogeranylgeraniol and phytol could also be detected. |
