Abstract:Rat brain levels of histidine, carnosine, and homocarnosine were determined after intraperitoneal injection of chlorpromazine (CPZ), sodium pentobarbital (PB), or reserpine (RSP). At the same time, rat muscle levels of histidine, carnosine, and anserine were determined. RSP, CPZ, and PB significantly lowered brain homocarnosine levels and RSP raised histidine levels. RSP, CPZ, and PB significantly lowered levels of muscle carnosine and anserine. PB and CPZ also lowered levels of muscle histidine.
