Abstract: | The origin of the adrenergic innervation to the rabbit female genital tract was studied in various denervation experiments followed by histochemical and fluorimetric analysis of the neuronal noradrenaline. The uterus and the vagina appear to be innervated by short adrenergic neurons emanating in ganglia present within and outside the middle third of the vaginal wall. These neurons probably also contribute to about half of the adrenergic innervation to the oviduct, whereas the rest of the innervation arises from postganglionic fibres running in the hypogastric nerves. The ovarian adrenergic nerves seem to derive from the lumbo-sacral sympathetic chain. |
