Abstract: | N-Phenylhydroxylamine is oxidized in aqueous phosphate buffer to nitrosobenzene, nitrobenzene, and azoxybenzene. Degradation is O2 dependent and shows general catalysis by (k1 = 2.3 M?2 sec?1) and (k2 = 2.3 × 105M?2 sec?1) or kinetically equivalent terms. Evidence is presented suggesting the intermediacy of a highly reactive species leading to these products. |
