Abstract:Most mice which have recovered from influenza virus infection are immune to reinfection with the same influenza virus. This immunity could be abrogated by the intranasal instillation of anti-immunoglobulin A (anti-IgA) but not of anti-IgG or anti-IgM antiserum. Thus, IgA is the major, if not the sole, mediator of nasal immunity to influenza virus in immunocompetent mice.
