Abstract: | A study of the jumping mechanism of a mite of the genus Indotritia has shown that its leg extension is one of the fastest movements known among animals (duration of approximately 0.5 ms). Moreover, the power per unit mass developed by this mite is unequalled among animals that jump using their legs and without the use of any specialized structures. |
