| Abstract: | In this paper, some problems of the taxonomy and distribution of Sect.Tuberculata H.T.Chang were discussed. 18 species of this section validly published, included Camellia ilicifolia Li ex H.T.Chang of Sect.Pseudocamellia Sealy, were revised and reduced to 6 species and 4 varieties. In addition, 2 new varieties were presented here.By the study, it was indicated that the differentiated level among species of this section was lower and the subdivision under the section(as Series or Subsection) was not desirable. At the same time, it was recognized that this section was a specializated group with some primitive characters and was not an evolutionary group.Sect.Tuberculata was regarded as endemic group of subtropical area in our country. The center of distribution lies in Guizhou province. In the evolution, there are close relationships between Sect.Tuberculata and Sect.Pseudocamellia. This section might be a substitute group from Sect.Pseudocamellia twards the east distributed and evolved. |
