Symmetric multifork chromosome replication in fast-growing Escherichia coli

Density transfer experiments were performed on Escherichia coli growing exponentially in rich medium. The results rule out asymmetric multifork “rolling circle” replication for the E. coli chromosome replicating in rich medium, and are consistent with symmetric multifork replication, with the reinitiations taking place on the two daughter chromosomes simultaneously.
