Abstract: | If asymmetrical free-floating cells or cell elements are mixed with a material which can be extruded as a fiber, a preparation can be made in which the long axes are parallel to one another. For example, a 10% polyvinyl alcohol (Du Pont Elvanol 71-30) solution is mixed with a cell suspension, and extruded through a nozzle (60-300 β in diameter) into an aqueous solution of sodium sulfate (4%) and borax (0.2%). The resulting fiber is then lifted out, stretched and dried, after washing if necessary. |
