Abstract: | The seasonal and diurnal variations in nitrate reductase activity (NRA) of cowpea cultivars were determined. Mean activity per gram fresh weight per hour averaged 31% higher in the 20 mg N/plant treatment than the control throughout the growing period. The highest activity occurred in the seedling stage and declined towards anthesis. Diurnal variations were marked by an increase in the NRA from 0600 to 1800 hours and then declined to a minimum at 2400 hours. |
