Role of lipoprotein lipase separated from VLDL during VLDL catabolism

Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) which is associated with very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) separated from the VLDL-LPL complex during hydrolysis of triglyceride in the presence of HDL in vitro. When further VLDL was added to the mixture, the separated LPL became associated with the freshly added VLDL and hydrolyzed its triglyceride. These results suggest that LPL separated from the substrate during catabolism of VLDL may act on other VLDL particles in vivo.
