Islands offer an interesting framework in which to study the effect of geographical isolation on population genetic differentiation. For plant species with high dispersal abilities, however, oceanic barriers may not represent a factor promoting strong population structure. In this work, we analysed seven nuclear microsatellite loci in Ilex (Aquifoliaceae), a bird‐dispersed plant group, to infer patterns of genetic differentiation among Macaronesian taxa: I. canariensis, I. perado ssp. lopezlilloi, I. perado ssp. platyphylla (Canary Islands) and I. perado ssp. azorica (Azores). In agreement with current taxonomic classification, our results revealed a high genetic differentiation between Ilex lineages (I. canariensis and the I. perado complex), and also supported previous hypotheses that these are the result of independent dispersal events to the islands. In contrast, genetic differentiation between I. perado ssp. azorica and the two subspecies from the Canaries was high, suggesting that taxonomic revision may be necessary. Levels of genetic variation at microsatellite loci in ssp. azorica were, in addition, the lowest reported among Macaronesian bird‐dispersed taxa. Lastly, low genetic differentiation was observed between subspecies occurring on the same island (sspp. platyphylla and lopezlilloi). In summary, our results revealed contrasting patterns between Macaronesian Ilex lineages: I. canariensis displayed moderate population structure across islands, whereas the I. perado complex showed strong differentiation among populations sampled on different islands. Thus, the Macaronesian Ilex taxa show that long‐distance dispersal syndromes (ornithochory) do not always ensure genetic connectivity across large areas in island systems. 《山海经》中有太阳东出扶桑、日中建木、西归若木的传说,长期以来一直存疑,争论不休,直到四川广汉三星堆遗址出土了青铜神树,才证明了传说的真实性.我们结合《山海经》等相关典籍,从植物学角度对扶桑、建木、若木的原植物进行探讨,基于典籍描述、考古资料、植物形态特征、生态习性和地理分布等,初步考订扶桑的植物原型为桦木科白桦(Betula platyphylla),建木的植物原型为杉科杉木(Cunninghamia lanceolata),若木的植物原型为木棉科木棉(Bombax ceiba).  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Betula ermanii, B. maximowicziana and B. platyphylla var. japonica have heterophyllous leaves (i.e. early leaves and late leaves) and are typical pioneer species in northern Japan. Chemical and physical defences against herbivores in early and late leaves of these species were studied. METHODS: Two-year-old seedlings were grown under full sunlight in a single growing season. Three-week-old leaves of each seedling were harvested three times (May, July and October). Total phenolics and condensed tannin content were determined for chemical defence and leaf toughness and trichome density were assessed for physical defence. Defoliation of early leaves in May was also performed to study the contribution of early leaves to subsequent growth. KEY RESULTS: Chemical and physical defences were greater in early than late leaves in B. platyphylla and B. ermanii, whereas the reverse was true in B. maximowicziana. In contrast to its weak chemical defences, the trichome density in B. maximowicziana was very high. In B. platyphylla and B. ermanii, the relative growth rates (RGR) were greater early in the growing season. Negative effects on growth of removal of early leaves were significant only in B. platyphylla. CONCLUSIONS: B. platyphylla and B. ermanii invest in defence in early rather than late leaves, since early leaves are crucial to subsequent growth. In contrast, B. maximowicziana more strongly defends its late leaves, since its RGR is maintained at the same level throughout the growing season.  相似文献

以白桦、日阴菅及其它主要草本植物的个体数量为指标,分析了各植物种群在土壤有机质,速效P和pH值3个资源维上的生态位宽度和生态位重叠及其在不同海拔条件下的变化规律。日阴菅生态位宽度随海拔升高而增大,其余植物种类在有机质资源维上的生态位宽度,大都是以中等海拔(800m)的样带最宽,而在速效P资源维上,又以中等海拔的样带为最窄,由于高海拔及相应低气温在某种程度上限制了植物种群在土壤有机质和速效P的利用,主要植物种对之间在这两个资源维上的生态位重叠以高海拔(950m)样带为最小,在土壤pH值资源维上,溪荪与其它主要植物种间的生态位重叠皆以低海拔(650m)样带为最小,可能是其特殊的环境组合迫使溪荪发生了生态位移动,大多数种对在土壤有机质,速效P和pH值3个资源维上都以海拔800m的样带生态位重叠最大。  相似文献

Stand structure and regeneration in a Kamchatka mixed boreal forest   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Abstract. A 1‐ha plot was established in a Betula platyphylla‐Picea ajanensis mixed boreal forest in the central Kamchatka peninsula in Russia to investigate stand structure and regeneration. This forest was relatively sparse; total density and stand basal area were 1071/ha and 25.8 m2/ha, respectively, for trees > 2.0 cm in trunk diameter at breast height (DBH). 25% of Betula regenerated by sprouting, and its frequency distribution of DBH had a reverse J‐shaped pattern. In contrast, Picea had a bimodal distribution. The growth rates of both species were high, reaching 20 m in ca. 120 yr. The two species had clumped distributions, especially for saplings. Betula saplings were not distributed in canopy gaps. Small Picea saplings were distributed irrespective of the presence/absence of gaps, while larger saplings aggregated in gaps. At the examined spatial scales (6.25–400 m2) the spatial distribution of Betula saplings was positively correlated with living Betula canopy trees and negatively with dead Picea canopy trees. This suggests that Betula saplings regenerated under the crowns of Betula canopy trees and did not invade the gaps created by Picea canopy trees. The spatial distribution of Picea saplings was negatively correlated with living and dead Betula canopy trees and positively with dead Picea canopy trees. Most small Picea seedlings were distributed under the crowns of Picea trees but not under the crowns of Betula trees or in gaps. This suggests that Picea seedlings establish under the crowns of Picea canopy trees and can grow to large sizes after the death of overhead Picea canopy trees. Evidence of competitive exclusion between the two species was not found. At a 20 m × 20 m scale both skewness and the coefficient of variation of DBH frequency distribution of Picea decreased with an increase in total basal area of Picea while those of Betula were unchanged irrespective of the increase in total basal area of Betula. This indicates that the size structure of Picea is more variable with stand development than that of Betula on a small scale. This study suggests that Betula regenerates continuously by sprouting and Picea regenerates discontinuously after gap formation and that the species do not exclude each other.  相似文献

The effects of manganese (Mn) toxicity on photosynthesis in white birch ( Betula platyphylla var. japonica ) leaves were examined by the measurement of gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence in hydroponically cultured plants. The net photosynthetic rate at saturating light and ambient CO2 (Ca) of 35 Pa decreased with increasing leaf Mn concentrations. The carboxylation efficiency, derived from the difference in CO2 assimilation rate at intercellular CO2 pressures attained at Ca of 13 Pa and O Pa, decreased with greater leaf Mn accumulation. Net photosynthetic rate at saturating light and saturating CO2 (5%) also declined with leaf Mn accumulation while the maximum quantum yield of O2 evolution at saturating CO2 was not affected. The maximum efficiency of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm) was little affected by Mn accumulation in white birch leaves over a wide range of leaf Mn concentrations (2–17 mg g−1 dry weight). When measured in the steady state of photosynthesis under ambient air at 430 μmol quanta m−2 s−1, the levels of photochemical quenching (qP) and the excitation capture efficiency of open PSII (F'v/F'm) declined with Mn accumulation in leaves. The present results suggest that excess Mn in leaves affects the activities of the CO2 reduction cycle rather than the potential efficiency of photochemistry, leading to increases in QA reduction state and thermal energy dissipation, and a decrease in quantum yield of PSII in the steady state.  相似文献

以白桦成熟合子胚为外植体,建,3-7白桦合子胚快速不定芽诱导体系:合子胚经消毒纵切后,在培养基WPM+2.0mg·L-16-BA+0.2mg·L-1NAA中,可直接诱导形成不定芽,诱导率最高为93.3%,不定芽诱导数为8.7个;WPM+4.0mg·L-1TDZ上也有较好的诱导效果,不定芽诱导率为90.2%,不定芽诱导数为7.6个,这表明WPM+2.0mg·L-1 6-BA+0.2mg·L-1 NAA是白桦成熟合子胚不定芽诱导的较优培养基。NAA能有效促进嫩茎生根,其最佳浓度为0.2mg·L-1。  相似文献

对黄土高原子午岭次生林区白桦林、辽东栎林和白桦-辽东栎混交林3种林分的土壤物理特性和叶片光合特性进行了研究。结果表明:(1)白桦-辽东栎混交林地的土壤水分明显改善,其土壤容重最小、土壤孔隙度最大,且均优于纯林,即混交林地有深层次的土壤水分可供利用,并改善了土壤的物理结构;(2)辽东栎林的光合速率和气孔导度最大,其次为白桦-辽东栎混交林,水分利用率(WUE)为混交林白桦>混交林辽东栎>辽东栎林>白桦林;(3)混交林中白桦、辽东栎的Fv/Fm和Fv/Fo值均较大,与纯林差异不显著;白桦林和辽东栎林的qP和NPQ值均大于混交林。  相似文献
