Abstract

Due to the forthcoming IMO ban on the use of tributyltin (TBT) antifouling paints, a new generation of TBT-free coatings has been developed that typically contain cuprous oxide and an organic co-biocide. Accurate and reproducible test methods are needed to evaluate the performance and environmental impact of these new coatings. This study investigated a methodology for evaluating TBT-free, AF coatings containing cuprous oxide. A commercially available AF coating underwent rotary immersion testing at 0, 0.51 and 2.05 m s?1. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) analysis were used to assess leach layer formation, percentage cuprous oxide by weight and particle size distribution (PSD). Biocide release rates and surface roughness were also measured. An increase in rotary speed caused a spike in Cu2+ release rate after which the release rate stabilised to previous levels. An increase in leach layer thickness was also observed after the rotary speed increase. A model is suggested to account for the observations.  相似文献

Copper-based epoxy and ablative antifouling painted panels were exposed in natural seawater to evaluate environmental loading parameters. In situ loading factors including initial exposure, passive leaching, and surface refreshment were measured utilizing two protocols developed by the US Navy: the dome method and the in-water hull cleaning sampling method. Cleaning techniques investigated included a soft-pile carpet and a medium duty 3M? pad for fouling removal. Results show that the passive leach rates of copper peaked three days after both initial deployment and cleaning events (CEs), followed by a rapid decrease over about 15 days and a slow approach to asymptotic levels on approximately day 30. Additionally, copper was more bioavailable during a CE in comparison to the passive leaching that immediately followed. A paint life cycle model quantifying annual copper loading estimates for each paint and cleaning method based on a three-year cycle of painting, episodic cleaning, and passive leaching is presented.  相似文献

A sensitive and precise spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of copper(I) in bacterial leach liquors produced by the action of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and T. thiooxidans on copper ores. In this method bicinchoninic acid (BCA) has been used as the chromogenic reagent which produces a stable purple complex with Cu(I) which was found to obey Beer's Law and with max at 560 nm. The coloured complex has a molar extinction coefficient () value of 6.6 × 103 l mol–1 cm–1; specific absorptivity () value of 0.104 ml–1 g cm–1 and the Sandell sensitivity (S) value was 0.0096 g cm2. Optimal conditions for development of coloration/sensitivity were determined. Interferences due to cations and anions were investigated and various masking agents for alleviating their inhibition were studied. The method has been found very useful in determining ratios of Cu(I) to Cu(II) in bacterial leach liquors and should play a significant role in determining the reaction mechanisms of biological leaching and for environmental monitoring.  相似文献

本文以沙葱休眠种子为试材,检测其种皮透水性、透气性、超微结构、种胚休眠及种子浸提液。结果表明,酸蚀种子吸水12h达饱和,吸水率是完整种子的2倍;其呼吸强度最大值是完整种子的1.36倍。酸蚀处理使种子表面结构破损,角质层脱落,种孔露出。沙葱种子离体胚接种培养后2~3d,种胚开始萌发,萌发率达85%。沙葱完整种子与粉碎种子的浸提液对白菜种子发芽率、苗高、根长均有抑制作用,且随着浓度的提高而增强。  相似文献

The ability of Ca-alginate immobilized Trichoderma harzianum has been explored for removal and recovery of uranium from aqueous streams. Ca-alginate as polymeric support was selected after screening different matrices. Immobilization of Trichoderma harzianum to Ca-alginate improved the stability as well as uranium biosorption capacity of biosorbent at 28 ± 2 °C and 200 rpm. The suitability of packed bed column operations was illustrated by obtaining break through curves at different bed heights, flow rates and inlet uranium concentrations. The adsorption column containing 1.5 g dry weight of immobilized material has purified 8.5 L of bacterial leach liquor (58 mg/L U) before break through occurred and the biosorbent became saturated after 25 L of influent. Sorbed uranium was recovered in 200 ml of 0.1 N HCl resulting in 98.1–99.3% elution by 0.1 N HCl, which regenerated the biosorbent facilitating the sorption–desorption cycles for better economic feasibility without any significant alteration in sorption capacity/elution efficiency.  相似文献

选取中亚热带两种不同类型土壤为研究对象,采集0~10、10~20、20 ~ 40、40~60、60~80、80~ 100 cm土层土壤样品,提取米槠新近凋落物的可溶性有机碳(DOC)溶液为初始DOC,研究其在土样中淋溶时的分馏现象和截留特征.结果表明:初始DOC在土柱中淋溶时,其浓度随深度增加呈逐层下降的趋势,而且化学结构更为简单,被土壤截留的DOC中主要是疏水性组分,但随着土层深度增加,亲水性DOC的截留量呈上升趋势;红外光谱显示含有芳环的疏水性物质最易被吸附,而烷烃和简单的碳水化合物则最有可能随土壤溶液进入下层土壤;由于到达下层土壤的DOC中易被吸附组分含量的减少,限制了其吸附能力的发挥,因此主要的吸附过程发生在40 cm以上土层,表明DOC本身的化学性质比土壤性质更能影响其吸附行为;不同类型土壤的截留量具有显著差异,这与土壤黏粒和铁铝氧化物的含量呈显著正相关.  相似文献

Soil Water Retention on Gold Mine Surfaces in the Mojave Desert   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
An experimental analysis of soil water retention was conducted on three substrates (an abandoned road, an overburden pile, and a heap leach) created by gold mining activities in the Mojave Desert in southeastern California. We mixed each substrate with straw, and the overburden pile and heap leach with growth medium, then applied surface rock mulch to half the plots in an attempt to increase soil water‐holding capacity for revegetation efforts. For each of the six treatments (controls included) we monitored soil water with time domain reflectometry following both a simulation of a rainfall event and a natural rainfall that occurred immediately following the simulation. Both the simulation and the rainfall increased soil water between 3 and 8%, depending on the substrate. Water retention patterns in the two‐week periods following each water addition were similar between the simulation and rainfall, and among all substrate types as values returned to background (pre‐water) conditions. The abandoned road substrate had higher background water content (16.5%) than the overburden pile (6%) and heap leach (5%). The road also had three times higher organic matter and five times higher soil nitrogen than the other two sites. Soil water retention was improved on the overburden pile by the addition of just surface rock mulch or of straw‐plus‐rock mulch. On the heap leach, increases were found with rock mulch only or with growth medium‐plus‐rock mulch. Rock mulches did not improve soil water retention and straw additions decreased soil water on the abandoned road. Judicious use of soil amendments can improve soil water conditions and improve revegetation efforts on disturbed lands in desert environments.  相似文献

青藏高原拥有全球独特的放牧系统,国内外较少通过定量控制的放牧试验研究放牧率对畜粪分解的作用。用双层盆叠放法比较高寒草甸两个放牧率下藏羊粪的分解规律。8羊/hm~2放牧率下的分解速率大于16羊/hm~2。随着放牧率增加,羊粪C、N、P的归还量、草地残留和淋溶量及其所占比例上升,C、N的大气排放量增加。粪中P的分解与C/N比负相关,C的分解速率与N/P比正相关。用Olson的指数模型拟合,羊粪分解50%和95%所需时间,除了木质素,粪干物质、C、N、P、纤维素、半纤维素的分解时间16羊/hm~2放牧率下均长于8羊/hm~2放牧率。单位重量粪的分解速率,16羊/hm~2放牧率下较快;单位面积草地上,畜粪的分解在16羊/hm~2放牧率下较快。研究结果对于全球变暖背景下,调整高寒草甸放牧策略有指导作用。  相似文献

Experimental peat-based wetlands at the former Bell Copper Mine (Smithers, B.C., Canada) removed copper from low strength (0.3–1.0 ppm, pH 6–8) and high strength (35–50 ppm, pH 3) copper-contaminated mine drainage. Copper species retained in wetlands sediments were quantified as a means to assess the long-term potential of these wetlands for treating mine drainage. Previous microbial and chemical analyses had indicated that sulphide was biologically generated in these wetlands, and mineralogical analysis confirmed that copper sulphides were present in wetland sediments. However, sequential leaching of these sediments showed that copper was predominantly in organically-bound and oxide-bound phases, with a smaller proportion present as sulphides. The available data suggest that much of the copper was retained as sulphides when low strength mine drainage was applied to the wetlands.  相似文献
