Bird A.F. and Stynes B.A. 1981. The life cycle of Anguina agrostis: Development in the host plant. Internationaljournal for Parasitology11: 431–440. The growth and development of the infective second stage “dauer” larvae (DL2) of Anguina agrostis into adults have been followed under field conditions in rye grass (Lolium rigidum). Three moults were observed to occur during the parasitic phase of development. From the third (second parasitic) moult onwards, there was much more variability in the size of the female nematodes than in the males and sexual dimorphism became very pronounced. The transition from the DL2 to the second stage parasitic larva (PL2) is marked by the disappearance of the numerous lipid storage granules which are characteristic of the DL2, and the development in the PL2 of an intestine which becomes more pronounced in each succeeding stage, particularly in the adult female. Anguina agrostis is unusual among parasitic nematodes in that the DL2 has the thickest cuticle of all stages, including adults. The L4 and adult males have thicker cuticles than the females at the same stages of development. Moulting appears to involve resorption of the innermost basal zone of the shed cuticle as well as morphological and chemical changes to the epicuticle. 相似文献

Abstract. 1. Eurytoma gigantea Walsh is a specialist parasitoid of the tephritid gallmaker Eurosta solidaginis (Fitch).
2. In the natural environment the incidence of parasitism by Eurytoma is greater in small galls than in large ones.
3. Laboratory experiments demonstrated that small galls are not more frequently discovered; however, oviposition attempts on small galls were more likely to be successful.

The mushroom-forming genus Squamanita comprises 10 described species, all parasitic on basidiomes of other members of the order Agaricales, including members of the genera Cystoderma, Galerina, Inocybe and Hebeloma. Here we report an anatomical investigation of the stipitate “mycocecidium’ (=fungus gall) formed on the basidiome of Cystoderma amianthinum (“powdercap”) by S. paradoxa (“powdercap strangler”), alongside the development of taxon-specific-PCR primer to localise the presence of S. paradoxa/C. amianthinum mycelia within mycocecidia, in associated plant tissues and apparently healthy host basidiomes. Dissection of fungarium samples also confirmed these findings, whilst ITS barcode sequencing of all available samples held at the RBG Kew and Edinburgh fungaria did not reveal any variation in ITS sequences within UK populations of S. paradoxa or the closely related S. pearsonii. The absence of any 13C or 15N isotopic differences between C. amianthinum and S. paradoxa suggests that S. paradoxa is nutritionally dependent on its host. 虫瘿是蚜虫诱导植物异速生长的结果,虫瘿作为蚜虫重要的延伸特征,对蚜虫系统分类、系统发育关系、以及起源演化等研究具有非常重要的作用.而且虫瘿的形态结构、着生部位等在蚜虫的物种间存在非常丰富的多样性,是蚜虫重要的生物学特征,也是物种鉴定的重要依据之一.本文在已有标本采集记录和资料的基础上,从结瘿的植物、虫瘿着生部位、形态结构及类型等4个方面对扁蚜亚科虫瘿的多样性进行了系统研究.结果表明该亚科蚜虫大多都在原生寄主上形成虫瘿,个别属及种可在次生寄主上成瘿;虫瘿在类型上有虫瘿和伪虫瘿之别;在着生部位上,有叶片、叶脉、叶柄、小枝、粗枝等;虫瘿的形状也十分多样,有管状、袋状、球状、半球形、刺球状、纺锤形、圆锥形、分支状、香蕉束状等;在结构上既有单室、多室之分,也有开放型、封闭型之别.对于虫瘿多样性的研究,可为虫瘿演化规律的探讨提供重要信息,也是基于虫瘿进行物种鉴定的重要基础. 相似文献

Kladothrips rugosus Froggatt has previously been considered a single polyphagous species that, in Australia, induces galls on several species of Acacia , with the gall structure varying both within and between hosts. On Acacia papyrocarpa , two types of gall are induced by this species, one with the surface ridged but the other with the surface smooth. Using sequence data from cytochrome oxidase subunit I (CO I ) and elongation factor-1 alpha gene fragments, we show that the thrips inducing these two gall-types are genetically distinct and comprise separate lineages. Uncorrected ' p ' distances calculated from CO I gene fragments were 0.000 and 0.006 within lineages and 0.074 and 0.078 between lineages. The between-lineage distances are comparable with distances between morphologically distinct species of other Acacia gall-thrips. Re-examination of adult thrips from the two gall types revealed consistent differences in body colour, as well as in body sculpture. Together with observations on gall founding behaviour, these data indicate that the thrips populations in the two gall types on A. papyrocarpa are reproductively isolated and should be considered as separate species. The form from smooth galls on A. papyrocarpa is therefore described as Kladothrips nicolsoni sp. nov. , although the form from ridged galls can be considered only as ' K. rugosus agg.'. Host‐associated differentiation (HAD) is the presence of genetically divergent, host‐associated populations. It has been suggested that microbial symbionts of insect herbivores may play a role in HAD by allowing their insect hosts to use different plant species. The objective of this study was to document if host‐associated populations of Phylloxera notabilis Pergande (Hemiptera: Phylloxeridae) in pecan and water hickory corresponded with differences in the composition of their associated bacteria. To test this hypothesis, we characterized the symbionts present in P. notabilis associated with these two tree species through metagenomic analyses using 454 sequencing. Differences in bacterial diversity were found between P. notabilis populations associated with pecan and water hickory. The bacteria, Pantoea agglomerans and Serratia marcescens, were absent in the P. notabilis water hickory population, whereas both species accounted for more than 69.72% of bacterial abundance in the pecan population. 相似文献
