The possible involvement of a peroxidase in prostaglandin biosynthesis

Sheep vesicular gland microsomes have been found to have an unusual peroxidase activity with a wide peroxide specificity and capable of oxidizing cofactors of prostaglandin synthetase. The peroxidase was also similar to the synthetase in its cellular location, its activation by hemin, inhibition by heme ligands and its inactivation by different peroxides. The inhibition by 2,7-naphthalenediol (K_i = 2 μM) also suggests that the peroxidase is an integral part of the synthetase complex.

遗传图谱表现形式简洁明了,为分析遗传规律、克隆基因提供了便利。Gbrowse、MapViewer等工具虽然能够协助研究人员绘制相似形式的物理图谱,但有很大的局限性:(1)数据需提前布置好;(2)输出结果无法灵活修改。鉴于此,文章基于Perl和SVG语言,开发了一款生物辅助作图软件MapGene2Chrom的本地版与网页版,该软件能够依据输入数据快速绘制相应的物理图谱。该软件输入数据格式简单,输出结果易于修改,图片格式为SVG矢量图,具有很好的移植性,以期为研究人员绘制物理图谱提供便利。     

Isolation and Genome Analysis of Single Virions using 'Single Virus Genomics'

Whole genome amplification and sequencing of single microbial cells enables genomic characterization without the need of cultivation ^1-3. Viruses, which are ubiquitous and the most numerous entities on our planet ⁴ and important in all environments ⁵, have yet to be revealed via similar approaches. Here we describe an approach for isolating and characterizing the genomes of single virions called ''Single Virus Genomics'' (SVG). SVG utilizes flow cytometry to isolate individual viruses and whole genome amplification to obtain high molecular weight genomic DNA (gDNA) that can be used in subsequent sequencing reactions.     

Coronary three-vessel disease with occlusion of the right coronary artery: What are the most important factors that determine the right territory perfusion?

With progressive occlusion of a coronary main artery, some anastomotic vessels are recruited in order to supply blood to the ischemic region. This collateral circulation is an important factor in the preservation of the myocardium until reperfusion of the area at risk. An accurate estimation of collateral flow is crucial in surgical bypass planning as it alters the blood flow distribution in the coronary network and can influence the outcome of a given treatment for a given patient. The evaluation of collateral flow is frequently achieved using an index based on pressure measurements. It is named collateral flow index (CFI) and defined as: (P_w − P_v)/(P_ao − P_v), where P_w is the pressure distal to the thrombosis, P_ao the aortic pressure and P_v the central venous pressure. In the present work, we study patients with severe coronary disease (stenoses on the left branches and total occlusion of the right coronary artery). Using a mathematical model that describes the coronary hemodynamics in that situation, we demonstrate that the dependence of the collateral circulation to the pressure values is not as simple as it is commonly believed: using pressures alone as an index of collateral flow is likely to result in misinterpretation of the collateral flow contribution, because collateral flow depends on many other factors related to the status of the native stenosed arteries and to the microvascular resistances (capillary and collateral resistances, and the proportion between them).

It has been found that both the peroxidase and synthetase activity of sheep vesicular gland microsomes catalyze the oxygenation of singlet oxygen trapping or quenching agents. Furthermore the synthetase was also readily inactivated by these agents, particularly bilirubin, and suggests that singlet oxygen formed by the peroxidase activity may initiate prostaglandin biosynthesis. The singlet oxygen agents also protected the synthetase from self-catalyzed destruction or inactivation by peroxides and suggest that singlet oxygen may also be responsible for the inactivation.

针对生物多样性研究领域的需求与现有GIS平台的局限,运用GML和SVG等相关技术设计实现了一个基于XML标本地理信息系统———SpecimenMapping。该系统具有导入常见空间数据格式、投影坐标互相转化、管理个人标本数据、导入其他格式的标本数据、图形化显示标本地理信息、分布地生态因子分析和栖息地预测等功能,具有基于开放标准便于功能扩展、方便操作、针对性强等特点。
