The vascular plant distributions of Dalsland and northern Bohuslän (Southwest Sweden) were subjected to multivariate analyses in order to delimit geographically coherent floristic zones. 271 squares of 5×5 km were the Operational Geographic Units; the data matrix comprises presence/absence species records for each OGU. Different ordination and classification methods were tested and detailed results are presented for detrended correspondence analysis (DCA), UPGMA and ordination space partitioning (OSP). A weighting procedure, neighbour-weighting, which gives pseudo-frequency scores along the nominal scale 0–9 depending on the species' distribution patterns, is introduced. The superior method for delimiting geographically coherent floristic zones was judged to be ordination space partitioning, using DCA and neighbour-weighted species scores.Abbreviations DCA

Summary The Australian Cotton Cultivar Trials (ACCT) are designed to investigate various cotton [Gossypium hirsutum (L.)] lines in several locations in New South Wales and Queensland each year. If these lines are to be assessed by the simultaneous use of yield and lint quality data, then a multivariate technique applicable to three-way data is desirable. Two such techniques, the mixture maximum likelihood method of clustering and three-mode principal component analysis, are described and used to analyze these data. Applied together, the methods enhance each other's usefulness in interpreting the information on the line response patterns across the locations. The methods provide a good integration of the responses across environments of the entries for the different attributes in the trials. For instance, using yield as the sole criterion, the excellence of the namcala and coker group for quality is overlooked. The analyses point to a decision in favor of either high yields of moderate to good quality lint or moderate yield but superior lint quality. The decisions indicated by the methods confirmed the selections made by the plant breeders. The procedures provide a less subjective, relatively easy to apply and interpret analytical method of describing the patterns of performance and associations in complex multiattribute and multilocation trials. Fast synaptic inhibition in the adult brain is largely mediated by GABAA receptors (GABAAR). GABAAR are anchored to synaptic sites by gephyrin, a scaffolding protein that appears to be assembled as a hexagonal lattice beneath the plasma membrane. Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) alters the clustering and synaptic distribution of GABAAR but mechanisms behind this regulation are just starting to emerge. The current study was aimed to examine if BDNF alters the protein levels and/or clustering of gephyrin and to investigate whether the modulation of gephyrin is accompanied by changes in the distribution and/or clustering of GABAAR. Exogenous application of BDNF to immature neuronal cultures from rat hippocampus increased the protein levels and clustering of gephyrin. BDNF also augmented the association of gephyrin with GABAAR and promoted the formation of GABAAR clusters. Together, these observations indicate that BDNF might regulate the assembly of GABAergic synapses by promoting the association of GABAAR with gephyrin. 相似文献

Monkey groups are characterized in terms of their networks of relationships. Six groups, each consisting of one adult male, several adult females and immatures, were studied over the same time period. This provided data on interaction patterns within groups and the ways in which individuals' kinship, backgrounds, idiosyncrasies, age and sex affected their interactions. Consistencies and changes in group networks in the course of time and in the face of events such as births, deaths, separations, and introductions are given special attention. In Heikinheimo et al . ( Journal of Biogeography , 2007, 34 , 1053–1064) we used clustering to analyse European land mammal fauna. Gagné & Proulx criticized our choice of the Euclidean distance measure in the analysis, and advocated the use of the Hellinger distance measure, claiming that this leads to very different clustering results. The criticism fails to take into account the probabilistic nature of the methods used and the fact that in this case the similarity measures correlate strongly. Gagné & Proulx used subjective inspection as the criterion of similarity between clusterings. We show that this is insufficient and misleading. Namely, owing to the local minimum problem, two clustering runs rarely give identical results. In the case of our study, the measured similarity (using the kappa statistic) between the Euclidean- and Hellinger-based clusterings is roughly equal to the similarity between two clusterings that both use the Hellinger distance but different random initialization points. 相似文献

Clustering is a prominent feature of receptors at the plasma membrane (PM). It plays an important role in signaling. Liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) of proteins is emerging as a novel mechanism underlying the observed clustering. Receptors/transmembrane signaling proteins can be core components essential for LLPS (such as LAT or nephrin) or clients enriched at the phase-separated condensates (for example, at the postsynaptic density or at tight junctions). Condensate formation has been shown to regulate signaling in multiple ways, including by increasing protein binding avidity and by modulating the local biochemical environment. In moving forward, it is important to study protein LLPS at the PM of living cells, its interplay with other factors underlying receptor clustering, and its signaling and functional consequences. 相似文献

Conjugated eicosapentaenoic acid (cEPA) has been found to have antitumor effects which has been ascribed to their ability to inhibit DNA topoisomerases and DNA polymerases. We here show that cEPA inhibits the catalytic activity of human topoisomerase I, but unlike camptothecin it does not stabilize the cleavable complex, indicating a different mechanism of action. cEPA inhibits topoisomerase by impeding the catalytic cleavage of the DNA substrate as demonstrated using specific oligonucleotide substrates, and prevents the stabilization of the cleavable complex by camptothecin. Preincubation of the inhibitor with the enzyme is required to obtain complete inhibition. Molecular docking simulations indicate that the preferred cEPA binding site is proximal to the active site with the carboxylic group strongly interacting with the positively charged K443 and K587. Taken together the results indicate that cEPA inhibitor does not prevent DNA binding but inhibits DNA cleavage, binding in a region close to the topoisomerase active site. 相似文献

Crop-to-wild introgression may play an important role in evolution of wild species. Asian cultivated rice (Oryza sativa L.) is of a particular concern because of its cross-compatibility with the wild ancestor, O. rufipogon Griff. The distribution of cultivated rice and O. rufipogon populations is extensively sympatric, particularly in Asia where many wild populations are surrounded by rice fields. Consequently, gene flow from cultivated rice may have a potential to alter genetic composition of wild rice populations in close proximity. In this study, we estimated introgression of cultivated rice with O. rufipogon based on analyses of 139 rice varieties (86 indica and 53 japonica ecotypes) and 336 wild individuals from 11 O. rufipogon populations in China. DNA fingerprinting based on 17 selected rice simple sequence repeat (SSR) primer pairs was adopted to measure allelic frequencies in rice varieties and O. rufipogon samples, and to estimate genetic associations between wild and cultivated rice through cluster analysis. We detected consanguinity of cultivated rice in O. rufipogon populations according to the admixture model of the STRUCTURE program. The analyses showedz that four wild rice populations, DX-P1, DX-P2, GZ-P2, and HL-P, contained some rare alleles that were commonly found in the rice varieties examined. In addition, the four wild rice populations that scattered among the rice varieties in the cluster analysis showed a closer affinity to the cultivars than the other wild populations. This finding supports the contention of substantial gene flow from crop to wild species when these species occur close to each other. The introgressive populations had slightly higher genetic diversity than those that were isolated from rice. Crop-to-wild introgression may have accumulative impacts on genetic variations in wild populations, leading to significant differentiation in wild species. Therefore, effective measure should be taken to avoid considerable introgression from cultivated rice, which may influence the effective in-situ conservation of wild rice species. 相似文献

Extractable and solvent insoluble, ester-bound lipids were analysed in an acid, sandy soil profile under Corsican pine. The n-alkanes and alkanoic acids from the soil profile showed rather poor correlations with those from the pine needles and roots, while the n-alkanol composition in the mineral horizons strongly indicated the presence of lipids derived from a previous grass vegetation. Although the ester-bound lipids (ω-hydroxyalkanoic acids and α,ω-alkanedioic acids (>C24)) suggested that plant sources other than pines were present in the mineral soil horizons their composition was less contaminated and a clear distinction between needle and root input could be discerned. The divergent clustering of soil horizons and plant materials by individual and combined compound classes emphasized the usefulness of both extractable lipids and cutin/suberin in unravelling (past) vegetation and tissue history and contributions to soil organic matter. 相似文献

The ultimate goal of the Recommender System (RS) is to offer a proposal that is very close to the user's real opinion. Data clustering can be effective in increasing the accuracy of production proposals by the RS. In this paper, single-objective hybrid evolutionary approach is proposed for clustering items in the offline collaborative filtering RS. This method, after generating a population of randomized solutions, at each iteration, improves the population of solutions first by Genetic Algorithm (GA) and then by using the Gravitational Emulation Local Search (GELS) algorithm. Simulation results on standard datasets indicate that although the proposed hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm requires a relatively high run time, it can lead to more appropriate clustering of existing data and thus improvement of the Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Coverage criteria. 相似文献
