Ten strains of fungi were tested for tolerance to the fungicide benomyl. Verticillium chlamydosporium strain 2 did not grow in the presence of benomyl; Drechraeria coniospora strains 1 and 2 and Chaetomium sp. tolerated only 0.1 μg benomyl/ml medium; Acremonium bacillisporum, an unidentified fungus, and Phoma chrysanthemicola uniformly grew at 1 μg/ml, but some hyphae grew at higher benomyl concentrations; Fusarium sp. tolerated 475 μg/ml, but some hyphae grew on medium amended with 1,000 μg/ml; Verticillium lecanii and V. chlamydosporium strain 1 routinely tolerated 1,000 μg/ml. Fungi generally grew more slowly at higher than at lower benomyl concentrations. Strains with elevated tolerance to benomyl were selected from Acremonium bacillisporum, Drechmeria coniospora, Fusarium sp., and an unidentified fungus. These strains retained the increased tolerance after repeated transfers on unamended medium.  相似文献

The role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in lead (Pb) uptake by corn (Zea mays) grown in soil supplemented with Pb was examined. Plants were subjected to four Pb levels: 0 (control); 10 (low); 100 (medium); and 500 mg L(-1) (high). At each Pb level, plants were grown in soil without and with fungicide (benomyl) (20 mg kg(-1)) to suppress AMF activity. Benomyl significantly reduced AMF colonization at high. medium, and zero Pb exposures. Benomyl application resulted in significantly lower concentrations of phosphorus in leaves at low and medium Pb exposures. The benomyl-treated plants had higher Pb and manganese concentrations in leaves than plants not treated with benomyl. In addition, benomyl-treated plants had generally lower concentrations of zinc and copper in leaves than plants not treated with benomyl. These results suggest that the role of AMF in heavy metal uptake is metal specific. Based on this work, the use of benomyl on soils contaminated with Pb can be recommended in phytoextraction.  相似文献

In a recent study on the degradation of N,N-dibutylurea (DBU), a breakdown product of benomyl [methyl 1-(butylcarbamoyl)-2-benzimidazole carbamate], the active ingredient in Benlate® fungicides, degradation half-lives of 1.4–46.5days were observed across several soils incubated at various combinations of soil moisture potential (–0.03 and –0.1MPa) and temperature (23, 33, and 44°C) for a single DBU application of 0.08 and 0.8 g g–1 (Lee et al. 2004). However, Benlate® can be applied as often as every 7days resulting in the repeated application of DBU likely to be present in the Benlate® over a growing season. In this study, the effect of seven repeated DBU applications on mineralization rate was investigated in two soils, which encompass the range in rates previously observed. For the slower degrading soil, repeated DBU application increased mineralization from 0.029 to 0.99day–1 at the 0.08 g g–1 rate, and 0.037 to 0.89day–1 at the 0.8 g g–1 rate. For the faster degrading soil, effects on mineralization of repeated DBU applications were small to negligible. For the latter soil, the effect on mineralization of applied DBU concentrations from 0.0008 to 80 g g–1 was also investigated. Mineralization rates decreased from 0.43 to 0.019day–1 with increasing DBU concentrations. However, the amount of DBU mineralized by day 70 was similar across concentrations and averaged 83% of applied. Microbial respiration was not affected by increasing DBU concentrations. These findings support the supposition that DBU is readily degraded by soil microorganisms, thus unlikely to accumulate in agricultural soils.  相似文献

Growth and enzymatic activities of extraradical mycelia (ERM) of native mycorrhizal symbionts associated with three orchid species, Dactylorhiza fuchsii, D. majalis and Platanthera bifolia, were studied. ERM extracted from the mycorrhizosphere of these species showed features typical for fungi that form orchid mycorrhiza. In the first pot experiment, three different treatments were applied on tubers of D. fuchsii transplanted from a natural site: control (no specific treatment), reinoculated (surface-sterilized tubers reinoculated with mycorrhizal fungi-colonised roots), and benomyl (nonsterilized tubers treated with fungicide). However, no significant differences in ERM growth and intensity of root mycorrhizal colonisation at harvest were observed among these treatments. ERM associated with reinoculated D. fuchsii plants showed significantly higher alkaline phosphatase (ALP) enzymatic activity at week 36 than at week 24, but no differences were observed for NADH diaphorase activity. Benomyl application significantly reduced ALP activity in comparison with reinoculated plants at week 36. In the second experiment, plants of all three species were either untreated (control), or repeatedly treated with benomyl. Similarly to the results of the first experiment, benomyl application did not reduce the ERM growth of mycorrhizal symbionts associated with D. majalis and D. fuchsii. The low ERM growth associated with benomyl-treated P. bifolia was probably caused by poor root system development in this treatment. Significantly higher mycorrhizal colonisation was found for D. fuchsii compared to P. bifolia in control treatments at the end of cultivation. The ERM of native symbionts of the three orchid species studied seemed to have a different growth pattern over time and responded differently to fungicide application.  相似文献

The effects of drought and the fungicide benomyl on a wild platyopuntia, Opuntia robusta Wendl., growing in a rocky semi-arid environment were assessed. Cladode phosphorus content, cladode water potential and daily net CO2 uptake were measured monthly in 2000 and 2001 before, during and after the summer rainy period. During 2000, the formation of new roots and new cladodes was severely suppressed in response to a prolonged drought, impairing the development of the symbiotic relationship between the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi and the roots. Hence no effect of benomyl application was observed on daily carbon assimilation by this Crassulacean acid metabolism plant. During 2001, drought was interrupted, and new cladodes and roots were formed in response to rainfall. Benomyl was highly effective in suppressing root colonization by AM-fungi; however, daily C assimilation was reduced by benomyl application only in October. Thus, the inhibition of AM-fungal colonization by benomyl did not affect photosynthesis, water uptake and P uptake under prolonged drought.  相似文献

Slower growth at temperatures ranging from 15 to 32.5 °C and high tolerance of three fungicides, benomyl, carbendazim and thio- phanate methyl, were shown to be reliable characteristics in distinguishing rubber isolates of Colletotrichum acutatum from Colletotrichum gloeosporioides in addition to the characteristics reported previously. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The fungicide benomyl was studied as a possible antimicrobial agent for obtaining Nosema heliothidis-free laboratory colonies of Heliothis zea. Newly hatched, transovarially infected larvae were placed on artificial diets containing 250, 500, or 1000 ppm benomyl. While late-stage larvae were found to be free of Nosema spores, low-level infections were found in pupae and newly emerged adults. The reduced intensity of infection in adults reared as larvae on treated diets was not correlated with a significant reduction in the efficiency of transovarian transmission. The chemical effect of benomyl was manifested by aberrant spores and vegetative stages and a rapid reduction in the number of microsporidian stages. However, small, isolated centers of infection in various host tissues resulted in a rapid resurgence of the microsporidiosis in pupae and adults. Thus, at the concentrations tested, benomyl was not effective in eliminating infection by N. heliothidis in H. zea. A discussion of the necessity for careful evaluation of the apparent suppression of microsporidioses by antimicrobial agents is also presented.  相似文献
