In the order of Holasteroida, the fossil record highlights a contradiction between the genus Pseudholaster that appears in the Aptian, whose plastron is prostostern close to the Jurassic ancestors and the genus Holaster, which appears in the Valanginian, whose meridostern plastron appears more derived. This inconsistency can be explained by the ignorance of the plastronal architecture on the part of the early authors. A review of the species of Pseudholaster from the Cretaceous period of France was therefore carried out. The objective was to statistically determine the discriminating morphological characters, and to study the modifications of the architecture of the interambulacrum 5 of the French species belonging to this genus, as well as to the species included in the genus Holaster incorrectly by earlier authors. This review of the species of the genus Pseudholaster begins with a study of the ontogeny of the species Holaster intermedius Münster in Goldfuss, 1826–1833, first representative of the genus Pseudholaster, which appears in the Hauterivian in the Parisian and Rhodano-vocontian basins. The modifications during growth concern the overall shape, but also the plastron architecture: the number of plastron plates increases while the number of plates located between the peristome and the periproct remains fixed. The plastron of this species is protosternal and not meridosternal as Lambert pointed out. The labrum is cupuliform in contact with the second sternal 5a2 by a narrow digitation. However, this arrangement differs from that observed on a protosternal breastplate. This apomorphism of the plastron plate pattern, called “labrotaxienne”, is found in all the Pseudholaster studied, and the study of the architecture of the interambulacrum 5 also reveals a gradual decrease in the number of preanal plates between the oldest (Hauterivian) and the younger (Cenomanian-Lower Turonian) species studied. Most of the French species have been revised, with some synonyms. A new species, P. neraudeaui, is the last known Pseudholaster dated from the upper Cenomanian and lower Turonian of southwestern France. Our study illustrates the evolution of the genus Pseudholaster between the Hauterivian and the early Turonian in France. The interest of the study is to show that the appearance of the genus Pseudholaster is older than that of the genus Holaster. Pseuholaster intermedius, of Hauterivian age, possesses a derived protostern plastron called here “labrotaxien” and not meridostern as defined historically by Lambert, and to reveal that the number of preanals decreases over geological time. This data is essential for future phylogenetic studies. On a palaeobiogeographical level, the study reveals the expansion of the genus Pseudholaster during early Cretaceous in western Europe, with diversification during the Albian, its disappearance during late Cenomanian in the Paris basin while it still persists in the Aquitain basin, its predilection for circalitoral environments.  相似文献

The movement ability of individuals has become increasingly important to a variety of ecological questions. In this study, I investigate how plant structure and changes in body size through development affect the movement ability of a predaceous stinkbug, Podisus maculiventris, on three species of goldenrod (Solidago spp.) representing a wide range of surface complexities. I adapt existing techniques for quantifying movement in two dimensions to the study of movement on natural plant structures in three dimensions. These experiments indicate that plant structure and insect size are significant factors affecting the movement ability of P. maculiventris. Changes in movement ability due to factors of ontogeny and different habitat structures suggest that the scale of an individual’s ambit or ecological sphere of influence may vary within its lifespan. Considering the influence of ontogeny and habitat structure on movement ability may be useful to investigations of population dynamics, foraging behavior, and pest management. A comparative bioacustic analysis of vocalizations of the prosimian subfamily Galaginae revealed that morphologically similar sibling taxa within the main groups of the lesser galagos and the greater galagos can be reliably identified phenotypically on the basis of the acoustic structure of their loud call or advertisement call. Results confirm the separation of two distinct species of greater galagos, Galago crassicaudatus and Galago garnettii, and strongly suggest the discrimination of three distinct species from the senegalensis lesser bushbaby group, Galago senegalensis, Galago moholi and Galao zanzibaricus. An investigation of the ontogenetic development of the loud call indicated that it is derived from the infant's isolation call, displaying in all studied bushbaby taxa a fairly similar acoustic pattern. Shared acoustic characters of the loud call among the different taxa as well as the infant's isolation call were used to propose a hypothesis about the phylogenetic affinities in bushbabies. The results seem to be supported by recent fossil records.  相似文献

Summary The ontogeny of substance P, CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide), and VIP (vasoactive intestinal polypeptide) containing nerve fibers in the carotid labyrinth of the bullfrog, Rana catesbeiana, was examined by the peroxidase-antiperoxidase method. The time of appearance of these three peptides was different for each. First, CGRP fibers appeared in the wall of the carotid arch and external carotid arteries, and in a thin septum between these two arteries at an early stage of larval development (stage III). At stage V, substance P immunoreactive fibers appeared, and VIP fibers were detected at the early metamorphic stage (stage XXII). Up to the completion of metamorphosis, the number of these fibers remained low. From 1 to 5 weeks after metamorphosis, substance P, CGRP, and VIP fibers increased in number to varying degrees. By 8 weeks after metamorphosis, the distribution and abundance of these fibers closely resembled those of the adults. Some CGRP and VIP immunoreactive glomus cells were found at the stages immediately before and after the completion of metamorphosis. These findings suggest that substance P, CGRP, and VIP fibers during larval development and metamorphosis may be nonfunctional, and start to participate in vascular regulation only after metamorphosis. The transient CGRP and VIP in some glomus cells may be important for the development of the labyrinth, or may take part in vascular regulation through the close apposition of the glomus and smooth muscle cells (g-s connection).  相似文献

The relative appearance of the parietal muscles in the development of the zooids has been studied in several ctenostomatous and “cheilostomatous” species. A comparison of the different on-togenetical sequences demonstrated that a “cheilostomatous” type of organization of the zooids with a great probability has been achieved in minimum three times independentl and originated from different ctenostomatous sub-grous: the Membranidea from plesiomorgic victorelloids (ancestors of Bulbella with not yet developed peristomial tube), the Inoviceiata (Aetea) from advanced forms of victorelloids with reduced primary parietal muscles (perhaps stcies related to Pottsiella), and Penetrantia from arachnidioid or vesicularioid ancestors (?). Therefore, the classical orders α“Ctenostomata” and “Cheilostomata” represent only “stage groups” but no monohyletic systematical units. Because of the new concept and interpretation I propose a new name for the united group: Cteno-Cheilostomata, supra-ord. nov.  相似文献

Summary Intra-ocular deposition of horseradish peroxidase was used to visualize optic tract projections in normal and congenitally monophthalmic catfish and Xenopus. In neither species was evidence for an increased ipsilateral visual component found in congenitally one-eyed specimens. This indicates that competition between axons from both eyes is not an important mechanism for fiber distribution in the chiasm during ontogeny. Furthermore, it suggests that enhanced ipsilateral components, previously noted in unilaterally enucleated fish and anurans, are caused by debris of degenerated axons.  相似文献

Summary In chicken embryos of different ages and in young chickens after hatching, neural elements reacting with antibodies generated against synthetic ovine corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) were studied by means of the peroxidase-anti-peroxidase (PAP) technique at the lightmicroscopic level. CRF-immunoreactivity was first observed in perikarya located in the periventricular part of the hypothalamus on the 14th day of the incubation period. CRF-containing neural elements were detected on the same day of incubation in the external zone of the median eminence, but not in all investigated animals. In extrahypothalamic sites, immunoreactive perikarya were demonstrable in the central gray of the mesencephalon on the 15th day of incubation. Furthermore, immunoreactive cells appeared in other brain regions such as nucleus accumbens and dorsomedial nucleus of the thalamus after hatching. The present observations provide information regarding the functional development of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal-adrenal axis in the chick embryo.  相似文献

Summary The popliteal lymph nodes were removed from young rats of various ages five days after a single immunization with TNP-KLH in the hind footpads. Cryostat sections of the lymph nodes were investigated by means of enzyme and immunohistochemical techniques at the light-microscopical level.The presence and localization of anti-TNP antibody-containing cells were examined using a new technique to visualize specific antibodies. Moreover, the development of the lymph nodes following exogenous antigenic stimulation was compared with that of unstimulated lymph nodes.Specific antibody-containing cells could not be found before day 15 after birth, in rats immunized at day 10. From that time these lymphoid cells were located primarily at the border between cortex and medulla. Younger popliteal lymph nodes showed only aspecific immunoglobulin-containing lymphoid cells. With age, the number of specific antibody-containing cells tended to increase. These cells were more mature, according to morphological criteria and were located nearer the medulla.The first primary follicles were seen at day 19, as was the case in unstimulated animals. The first secondary follicles, containing germinal centers, were detected at day 23, whereas in unstimulated popliteal lymph nodes they were never found.Trapping of immune complexes could not be demonstrated before day 33 after birth. Summary Ultrastructural analyses of retinal development in the guppy embryo show that at midgestation all types of photoreceptors are differntiated in the fundus, and at birth differentiation extends over the whole retina. Formation of discs of outer segments is more rapid in rods than in cones. Double cones differentiate simultaneously with long single cones and are formed by the adhesion of two primordial inner segments; short single cones develop last. Wherever cones are differentiated, they are arranged in an adult-type square mosaic. The rods in the embryo, as opposed to the adult, are likewise regularly arranged within the mosaic unit.These results are at variance with the generally held opinion that adult teleosts which possess duplex retinae have larvae with pure cone retinae, and that rods, double cones and mosaics appear in late larval life or only at metamorphosis.In the double cones of the guppy embryo subsurface cisternae develop along the adjoining primordial inner segments. Additionally, regularly distributed subsurface cisternae are formed in the regions of intimate contact of long single cones with double cones and rods.We suggest that the early development of rods and double cones, and a square-mosaic with regular distribution of rods and subsurface cisternae, provide the newly born with a fully functional optical apparatus, especially suited to perception of movements. 采用聚丙烯酰胺垂直板状连续电泳方法,对幼态持续(neoteny)的寡齿新银鱼(Neosalanx oligodontis Chen)13种同工酶的18个位点进行研究,并进行乳酸脱氢酶热变性实验。结果表明ADH、GOT、α-GPDH、LDH、MDH、ME、POX和SOD表现出一定的幼态持续的特征,其中LDH由A、B两个位点编码,C位点不表达,是因为个体发育早期C基因尚未表达时发生幼态持续的结果。ES和IDH无幼态持续特征。α-AMY、FUM和CAT因数据不足,未进行分析。寡齿新银鱼同工酶基因表达中幼态特征的表现为研究鱼类幼态持续的产生机制和遗传基础提供线索。  相似文献
