This study attempted to estimate TMJ loading during incisal loading using a custom load-cell device and surface electromyographic (sEMG) recordings of the main jaw closers to assess the outcome correlation. Study participants were 23 healthy volunteers. The incisal loads having submaximal and mean intensity were recorded using a calibrated electronic load cell; simultaneously, surface electromyography (sEMG) of the right and left masseter and temporalis muscles was recorded. Readings of the resting, clenching in maximal and submaximal intercuspal positions and mean (50%) incisal loads were recorded. Clenching sEMG activity was used as a reference for normalization. The mean (SD) submaximal incisal load recorded was 498 (305.78) N, and the mean at 50% of the submaximal load was 268.93 (147.37) N. Mean (SD) sEMG activity during submaximal clenching was 141.23 (87.76) μV, with no significant differences between the four muscles. During submaximal voluntary incisal loading, the normalized mean sEMG activity was 49.99 (34.54) µV %, and 27.17(15.29) µV % during mean (50%) effort. The incisal load was generated mainly by the masseter muscles, as these showed a positive correlation during mean but not during submaximal effort. In the edge-to-edge jaw position, the mean incisal load effort seems to be physiological, but excessive TMJ loads can be expected from chronic or excessive incisal loading. In conclusion, incisal loads require the activity of the masseter muscles, which show a positive correlation between sEMG activity and effective incisal loads during mean, but not during submaximal, effort, and the masseter muscles are dominant over the temporalis muscles during submaximal incisal biting.  相似文献

Honeybees rely exclusively on pollen and nectar-producing plants for strengthening their colonies and manufacturing honey. Little is known about the indigenous melliferous flora of arid zones of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) which is crucial for honey production and how different pollen assessment techniques effect the identification of indigenous melliferous pollen flora. Visual survey and loads ensnaring through pollen traps were used to identify the botanical profile of melliferous pollen flora of Dera Ismail Khan (DIKhan), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The test time extended for two consecutive years 2018 and 2019. The study revealed 56 plant species as pollen flora with 18 significant pollen producing species in visual survey technique while 8 species as predominant flora in pollen trapping technique. The major pollen species found common in both the techniques were Brassica napus L., Brassica campestris L., Trifolium alaxandrinum L., Zea mays L., Acacia modesta L., Citrus aurantium L., Euclyptus spp., and Morus alba L. Pollen interception and palynological analysis of pollen were found to be more reliable techniques as compared to focal observations. More than fifty % differences were found by comparing the results of the visual survey and pollen trapping technique in major flora of DIKhan. Based on the availability, utility status and flowering duration of apiphilic flora, mid-February to mid-May was found to be a significant pollen flow period in the study area. Maximum benefit can be taken in this period through trapping ample amount of pollen and stored for using in artificial diets, selling and feeding bees during dearth period.  相似文献

External load at the tibia during activities of daily living provides baseline measures for the improvement of the design of the bone–implant interface for relevant internal and external prostheses. A motion analysis system was used together with an established protocol with skin markers to estimate three-dimensional forces and moments acting on ten equidistant points along the tibial shaft. Twenty young and able-bodied volunteers were analysed while performing three repetitions of the following tasks: level walking at three different speeds, in a straight-line and with sudden changes of direction to the right and to the left, stair ascending and descending, squatting, rising from a chair and sitting down. Moment and force patterns were normalised to the percentage of body weight per height and body weight, respectively, and then averaged over all subjects for each point, about the three tibial anatomical axes, and for each task. Load patterns were found to be consistent over subjects, but different among the anatomical axes, tasks and points. Generally, moments were higher in the medio/lateral axis and influenced by walking speed. In all five walking tasks and in ascending stairs with alternating feet, the more proximal the point was the smaller the mean moment was. For the remaining tasks the opposite trend was observed. The overall largest value was observed in the medio/lateral direction at the ankle centre in level walking at high speed (9.1% body weight * height on average), nearly three times larger than that of the anterior/posterior axis (2.9) during level walking with a sidestep turn. The present results should be of value also for in-vitro mechanical tests and finite element models.  相似文献
