This study was intended to identify the genes responsible for ESBL- and carbapenemase-producing bacterial isolates obtained from Jizan region. A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted over a period of 3 months (15th November 2018–15th February 2019). Fifty non-duplicate, 3rd-generation cephalosporin and carbapenem-resistant isolates were collected from microbiology lab of a tertiary care hospital in Jizan province and were screened for ESBLs and MBLs by phenotypic methods (CDT). The positive isolates (by phenotypic method) were then scanned for the presence of blaESBLs and blaNDM-1 genes, respectively, by PCR.As a result, 10% isolates showed imipenem-cephalosporin co-resistance whereas 92% (46/50) of isolates were found to be ESBL producers by CDT. The maximum occurrence was observed for blaCTX-M (70%), followed by blaSHV (16%) and least occurrence was noted for blaTEM (12%). Moreover, 97% isolates (34/35) were of blaCTX-MGroup1 but one isolate showed the presence of blaCTX-M Group26. Despite the co-resistance of cephalosporin and carbapenem, 14% (7/50) were found to be MBL producer on phenotypic detection by Combination Disc Test (CDT), whereas all the isolates were found to be negative for blaNDM-1. Hence blaCTX-MGroup1 is present in quite high fraction followed by blaSHV in the bacterial isolates of Jizan region. Moreover, the occurrence of blaCTX-M Group1 and blaCTX-M Group26 in clinical isolates from the Jizan region of Saudi Arabia has been reported for the first time. 相似文献

Two new species of Heliotropium L. (Boraginaceae, subfam. Heliotropioideae), growing in sandy loam soils in Jizan, south-west Saudi Arabia, Heliotropium chaudharyanum Al-Turki, Omer & A. Ghafoor and Heliotropium jizanense Al-Turki, Omer & A. Ghafoor, are described and illustrated. The relationships of the new species within the small-flowered Heliotropium europaeum L. species group are discussed. Notes on distribution and habitat are provided, together with a map. 相似文献

In mid-September 2000, Rift Valley fever (RVF) virus was diagnosed as the cause of infection in humans and livestock in Jizan Region, Saudi Arabia. This is the first time that this arbovirus has been found outside Africa and Madagascar. Collections of mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) were therefore undertaken (from 25 September to 10 October) at eight sites during the epidemic to obtain mosquitoes for attempted RVF virus isolation. Among 23 699 mosquito females tested, six isolations of RVF virus were made from 15 428 Culex (Culex) tritaeniorhynchus Giles and seven from 8091 Aedes (Aedimorphus) vexans arabiensis Patton [corrected]. Minimum mosquito infection rates per 1000 at sites with infected mosquitoes were 0.3-13.8 Cx. tritaeniorhynchus and 1.94-9.03 Ae. v. arabiensis. Viral activity moved northwards as collecting was in progress and collectors 'caught up' with the virus at the two most northerly sites on the last two trapping evenings. Other species occurred in small numbers and were identified but not tested. Both Cx. tritaeniorhynchus and Ae. v. arabiensis were susceptible to RVF virus and transmitted between hamsters, and an additional quantitative test with Cx. tritaeniorhynchus showed that 71-73% of mosquitoes became infected after ingesting 6.9-7.9 log10 FFU/mL of virus; transmission rates were 10% (post-infection day 14) and 26% (post-infection day 20). It was concluded that both species were vectors on grounds of abundance, distribution, preference for humans and sheep, the virus isolations and vector competence tests. 相似文献

Distinctive studies were conducted for the identification of meiobenthos and zooplankton at Farasan Islands and Jizan sandy shores. The present work compares the meiobenthos and zooplankton communities at Alhsas sandy shore at Farasan Islands and As-Suways sandy shore at Jizan. Population density, species richness and Shannon-Weiner diversity index were determined for meiobenthos and zooplankton inhabiting both the studied sites. Water criteria; surface water temperature, pH and conductivity were determined for each investigated site. Eleven zooplankton species were defined at Alhsas sandy shore Farasan, nine species were identified at the littoral zone at As-Suways sandy shore, Jizan. Ten meiobenthos species were defined at Alhsas site, Farasan. Only eight meiobenthos species were defined at the intertidal zone of As-Suways site, Jizan. The results were discussed to highlight the effect of water criteria on the spatial distribution of zooplankton and meiobenthos at the investigated sites. 相似文献
