Summary The seven possible primary trisomics of Petunia (2 n= 14) located in the progenies of triploid, hypertriploid and hypotriploid plants were distinguished from one another and from diploid on the basis of cytological and morphological criteria. They were provisionally named as Oval, Semi, Slender, Pseudonormal, Arrow, Narrow and Giant. In three of the trisomics, the extra chromosome was identified for the first time at pachytene stage. Postpachytene studies revealed no precise relationship between the length of extra chromosome and the frequency of multiple association.  相似文献

The evidence of increased crossing over rate in tomato hybrids infected with TAV (Tomato aspermy virus), PVX (Potato virus X), TMV (Tobacco mosaic virus), TMV+PVX indicates the recombinogenic effect of viral infection. Cytological studies of the early diakinesis in healthy and virus-infected tomato revealed significant changes in chiasma number and position. The most significant changes were established for bivalents with two interstitial chiasmata and with one terminal and one interstitial. The data obtained indicate redistribution of the chiasmata position and induction of additional exchanges. The virus-induced recombination is segment-specific and depends on the host plant genotype, virus infection and the interaction between them.  相似文献

. We introduce some special chiasma formation processes. First a family of discrete chiasma formation processes is introduced and we determine the nature of higher order interference associated with those processes. Secondly we consider a two-stage chiasma formation process, where the associated recombination frequency between two markers depends not only on their map distance but also on their location along the chromosomes. We characterise under this process, in some cases, the nature of interference between two segments. Received: 22 January 1996 / Revised version: 17 September 1997  相似文献

Summary Ten genotypes, including inbreds, hybrids, and advanced populations, were examined in order to elucidate the relationship between position and frequency distribution of chiasmata and quantitative traits, including yield heterosis in common beans. The hybrid and advanced population groups were determined to possess 83% and 54% increased chiasma frequency, respectively in contrast to inbred lines. The increase in chiasma frequency of these populations was further manifested in a high number of interstitial chiasmata. The regular and superior chromosome behaviour of the hybrids was found to be positively associated with quantitative measures on bean yield, harvest index and bean yield efficiency. The results were discussed from the point of view that: a) increased interstitial chiasmata may provide an effective mechanism for maintaining genetic diversity and heterosis in hybrid populations; and b) heterosis for chiasma frequency and quantitative traits may be due to dispersed genes on the chromosomes having combined intra-and interallelic interactions. The data provide evidence for the existence of positive associations between interstitially localized chiasmata with its recombination potential and regular chromosome behaviour to bean yield heterosis. The role of enhanced interstitial chiasmata to promote higher levels of genetic variation and heterozygous advantage is discussed.  相似文献

Summary The lenticulus ofHydrozetes lemnae represents an eye composed of a single cuticular cornea underlain by flat extensions of epidermal cells, two pigment cells, and a pair of lamellated bodies. The latter consist of about 100 vertically arranged lamellae which are orientated longitudinally in the animal. The lamellated bodies are accompanied by glia cells. Two large fat body cells separate the paired components medially. Each lamellated body is connected to a perikaryon located in the brain. It is evident that these components are parts of photoneurons of the central nervous system. Their vertically directed extensions are dendritic branches, terminating under the cornea as lamellated bodies. It is assumed that these are the photosensitive parts of the two photoneurons which serve as receptor cells. The axon of each cell runs transversely through the brain and terminates in a small distinct optic neuropile close to the opposite perikaryon. Thus the resulting chiasma opticum comprises two axons only. The extraordinary composition of this eye corroborates the assumption that it is a secondary light sense organ.  相似文献

We analyzed a hybrid zone between two chromosome races (2n = 16 and 2n = 22) of a Japanese harvestman, Gagrellopsis nodulifera Sato and Suzuki (Arachnida: Opiliones: Phalangiidae). The hybrid zone is located in the eastern part of Tottori Prefecture, western Honshu. The width of the zone is approximately 5 to 15 km. Three independent tandem fusions/fissions seem to be the main cause of the karyotypic differences between the parental races. Ten karyotypic variants were found in the hybrid zone. They differed by numbers of diploid chromosomes and trivalents detected in meiosis. In most of the collecting sites, karyotypic heterozygotes were less common than expected. A positive correlation was found between number of trivalents in a karyotype and its deficiency rate. In some sites, the deficit of heterozygous individuals was accompanied by an excess of the intermediate homozygotes. One of the three transects across the zone was studied in detail. We found that three types of single heterozygotes (2n = 17, 2n = 19 and 2n = 21) formed a series of successive, spatially separated peaks along the transect. Two types of intermediate homozygotes (2n = 18 and 2n = 20) were also spatially separated. The most parsimonious explanation of such a structure is the staggering of clines of three tandem (or Robertsonian) fusion/fission variants that differentiate the parental races caused by selection against multiple heterozygotes. Analysis of nondisjunction in single heterozygotes demonstrated that there was a strong interindividual variation in nondisjunction rate. The mean frequency of aneuploid MII in single heterozygotes was 0.10 +/- 0.03. Crossover exchanges in some critical regions of trivalents result in abnormal chromosomal configurations: chromosomes with unequal chromatids and dicentric chromosomes. Frequency of crossover-induced chromosomal abnormalities was low in single heterozygotes (approximately equal to 4%), and was unexpectedly high in the double heterozygotes (approximately equal to 15%). Selection against karyotypic heterozygotes is considered as a main evolutionary force responsible for the structuring of the hybrid zone. A positive association between diploid chromosome number and altitude was found. The race 2n = 16 tended to occupy lower altitudes than the 2n = 22 parental race. Differences in ecological preferences may be a result of previous adaptations to different environments in allopatry. A hypothesis concerning the origin and evolution of the hybrid zone is proposed.  相似文献

Using genetic recombination data to make inferences about chiasmata on the tetrad during meiosis is a classic problem dating back to Weinstein's paper in 1936 (Genetics 21, 155-199). In the last few years, Weinstein's methods have been revived and applied to new problems, but a number of important statistical issues remain unresolved. Recently, we developed improved statistical methods for studying the frequency distribution of the number of chiasmata (Yu and Feingold, 2001, Biometrics 57, 427-434). In the current article, we develop methods for the complementary issue of studying the spatial distribution of chiasmata. Somewhat different statistical approaches are needed for the spatial problem than for the frequency problem because different scientific questions are of interest. We explore the properties of the maximum likelihood estimate (MLE) for chiasma spatial distributions and propose improvements to the estimation procedures. We develop a class of statistical tests for comparing chiasma patterns in tetrads that have undergone normal meiosis and tetrads that have had a nondisjunction event. Finally, we propose an EM algorithm to find the MLE when the observed data is ambiguous, as is often the case in human datasets. We apply our improved methods to reanalyze a dataset from the literature studying the association between crossover location and meiotic nondisjunction of chromosome 21.  相似文献

Summary Six primary triticale lines were produced from two advanced breeding lines of Triticum durum and three inbred genotypes of Secale cereale. The wheat and rye parents and the triticale derivatives were crossed in all possible combinations within each species group. Chiasma and univalent frequency of parents and hybrids were determined. The primary triticale lines had more univalents and less chiasmata per pollen mother cell than the corresponding wheat and rye parents together. The parental wheat F1 exhibited negative heterosis for chiasma frequency whereas all rye hybrids had much higher chiasma frequencies than their inbred parents. Triticale F1s generally showed lower chiasma frequencies and more univalents than their parents, but the degree of pairing failure was dependent upon which of the parental species within the triticale, wheat or rye, was in the heterozygous state. F1s with heterozygous wheat genome only showed the least reduction in chiasma number (presumably caused by gene actions within the wheat genome), while F1s with heterozygous rye genome showed high reduction in chiasma frequency and an increase in pairing failure (induced by negative interactions between the heterozygous rye and the wheat genome in triticale). A high correlation was found between the frequency of undisturbed pollen mother cells and the frequency of aneuploids in the subsequent generation. A higher number of aneuploids occurred in those populations which were heterozygous for the rye genome.  相似文献

Summary A stock of Blattella germanica bearing the interchange T(3; 12)/3;12 was subjected to close inbreeding with selection for random disjunction at metaphase I. After 3–4 generations of selection, interchange quadrivalent chiasma frequency decreased, variability in free bivalent chiasma frequency increased sharply, and individuals with either random or directed disjunction were present in the stock. Random disjunction was modified from a ratio of 2112 (adj.-1; alt.-1; adj.-2; alt.-2) to a ratio of 1111. After 7–8 generations of selection, chiasma frequency appeared to stabilize at lower than normal levels and variability decreased for both quadrivalents and free bivalents. Directed disjunction was modified from a ratio of 2114 to 1112, and no individuals with the original high level of directed disjunction were detected. Chains-of-four tended to orient randomly, especially in individuals where the ring quadrivalents showed directed disjunction. Relaxation of inbreeding, but not selection, produced an increase in chiasma frequency and variability in both free bivalents and quadrivalents, but the modified ratios for both random and directed disjunction were retained. These results are discussed with respect to inbreeding effects and genetic control of chiasma frequency and metaphase I disjunction in interchange quadrivalents.  相似文献

Summary Four locally adapted and high yielding cultivars of upland cotton were examined in order to elucidate the relationship between total chiasma frequency and quantitative traits, including yield and fiber properties. Total chiasma frequency per nucleus was found to correlate positively with boll number (r = 0.4041), seed cotton yield (r = 0.6003), seed index (r = 0.4624), lint yield (r = 0.7325), and lint index (r = 0.9534). The data are discussed from the point of view that the heterozygosity caused by increased chiasma frequency in inbreeding cotton cultivars is an important compensating mechanism for enhancing effective recombination and genetic variability.  相似文献
