To explain higher-level heritability, we propose a dynamical systems approach, based on simulations of the high-dimensional replicator equation with mutation dynamics. We assume that all variants are generated from within the groups of variants through mutations. Simulating the equation with a random interaction matrix and possible variants, we report that this system tends to have many attractors, of fixed point, chaotic and quasiperiodic type. In a chaotic attractor, special gene-like variants appear to control the heritability ofthe system, in the sense that removal of the variants would easily enable the system to depart from the attractor. Those variants do not predominate in thepopulation size, but have the lowest net reproduction and mutation rates on average. Because their rate of growth is small, they are named neutral phenotypes. Additionally, combinatorial effects of these neutral variants to the entire system are reported.  相似文献

A new snake-eel,Apterichtus keramanus, is described on the basis of a single 276-mm TL specimen trawled from the coast of Kerama Islands, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. The species is unique in the genus in having the posterior nostril opening entirely inside the mouth and a dark band running from the anteroventral margin of the eye to the upper lip.  相似文献

Human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) Rev acts by inducing the specific nucleocytoplasmic transport of a class of incompletely spliced RNAs that encodes the viral structural proteins. The transfection of HeLA cells with a rev-defective HIV-1 expression plasmid, however, resulted in the export of overexpressed, intron-containing species of viral RNAs, possibly through a default process of nuclear retention. Thus, this system enabled us to directly compare Rev+ and Rev cells as to the usage of RRE-containing mRNAs by the cellular translational machinery. Biochemical examination of the transfected cells revealed that although significant levels of gag and env mRNAs were detected in both the presence and absence of Rev, efficient production of viral proteins was strictly dependent on the presence of Rev. A fluoroscence in situ hybridisation assay confirmed these findings and provided further evidence that even in the presence of Rev, not all of the viral mRNA was equally translated. At the early phase of RNA export in Rev+ cells, gag mRNA was observed throughout both the cytoplasm and nucleoplasm as uniform fine stippling. In addition, the mRNA formed clusters mainly in the perinuclear region, which were not observed in Rev cells. In the presence of Rev, expression of the gag protein was limited to these perinuclear sites where the mRNA accumulated. Subsequent staining of the cytoskeletal proteins demonstrated that in Rev+ cells gag mRNA is colocalized with β-actin in the sites where the RNA formed clusters. In the absence of Rev, in contrast, the gag mRNA failed to associate with the cytoskeletal proteins. These results suggest that in addition to promoting the emergence of intron-containing RNA from the nucleus, Rev plays an important role in the compartmentation of translation by directing RRE-containing mRNAs to the β-actin to form the perinuclear clusters at which the synthesis of viral structural proteins begins.  相似文献

Activities of glycolytic enzymes in the aorta were investigated in female Wistar rats. There were two groups of rats; one served as the control (sedentary rats), while the other group was forced to run on a treadmill for 10 weeks. In the control animals, the activities of hexokinase, phosphofructokinase and aldolase were relatively lower than those of the other glycolytic enzymes (phosphoglucose isomerase, lactate dehydrogenase and pyruvate kinase). After exercise, the activity of phosphofructokinase increased by 15%, whereas the other enzymatic activities were much the same as in the controls. Within the limits of the experiments, the increased percentage of phosphofructokinase was statistically significant (p less than 0.05). Since phosphofructokinase is a putative rate limiting enzyme, this enzymatic activation may indicate that glycolytic activity in the rat aorta is enhanced during and after running exercise.  相似文献

Some RNAs, including both single- and double-stranded RNAs, when incubated with chick embryo cell culture induce cellular resistance against viruses. Evidence was now obtained indicating that the induction of cellular resistance by RNA depends on the cellular metabolic activity, especially on the synthesis of cellular RNA and protein. Thus, inhibitors of RNA and protein synthesis, actinomycin D and cycloheximide, were found to inhibit the development of an antiviral state when added before, or during the relatively early period of, incubation of the cells with RNA. In the course of induction of cellular resistance, three stages may be distinguished, the priming stage, the developing stage, and the established resistant stage.  相似文献

The upper limb nerves of 8 human embryos (Carnegie stages 13-21) were studied by reconstruction. In stage 13, upper limb nerves (C5-T1) extended from the spinal cord. In stage 14, these nerves united to form the nascent brachial plexus. In stages 16 and 17, the median nerve, the radial nerve and the ulnar nerve entered into the hand plate. In stages 20 and 21, the upper limb nerves were observed in an orientation and arrangement similar to those in the adult.  相似文献

Carbohydrate metabolism in Al-phosphate utilizing cells of carrot[designated as IPG, Koyama et al. (1992) Plant Cell Physiol.33: 171], which grow normally in Al-phosphate medium accompaniedby citrate excretion, was investigated. The excretion of citratewas strongly related to the availability of sucrose in medium,indicating that citrate excretion was severely limited by sucrosein medium. The ratio of the amount of carbon in the excretedcitrate to the consumed sucrose, was significantly higher inIPG cells than in wild-type cells. When 50% of the sucrose inthe medium was consumed, the ratio was 0.6% for the IPG cellsand 0.2% the wild-type cells. Under these conditions, IPG cellsshowed altered citrate synthesis metabolism, which resultedin increased citrate production. Specific activity of mitochondrialcitrate synthase was higher in IPG cells than in wild-type cells,whereas the activity of cytosolic NADP-specific isocitrate dehydrogenasewas lower in IPG cells than in wild-type cells. Changes in juxtaglomerular (JG; renin-containing) cells in experimental hydronephrosis 1 month after ureteral ligation were investigated with immunoelectron-microscopical techniques. Two types of granules, electron dense (D) and lucent (L), were observed. D type granules were labeled more intensely with gold particles than those of L type. Granules intermediate between D and L types and exocytosis of D types were observed. In the cells containing D types exclusively, gold particles were restricted to the granules, whereas in the cells containing both D and L type granules, the particles were scattered throughout the cytoplasmic cytosol. The authors discuss the mechanisms of renin release in JG cells.  相似文献
