Genomic selection is becoming a standard tool in livestock breeding programs, particularly for traits that are hard to measure. Accuracy of genomic selection can be improved by increasing the quantity and quality of data and potentially by improving analytical methods. Adding genotypes and phenotypes from additional breeds or crosses often improves the accuracy of genomic predictions but requires specific methodology. A model was developed to incorporate breed composition estimated from genotypes into genomic selection models. This method was applied to age at puberty data in female beef cattle (as estimated from age at first observation of a corpus luteum) from a mix of Brahman and Tropical Composite beef cattle. In this dataset, the new model incorporating breed composition did not increase the accuracy of genomic selection. However, the breeding values exhibited slightly less bias (as assessed by deviation of regression of phenotype on genomic breeding values from the expected value of 1). Adding additional Brahman animals to the Tropical Composite analysis increased the accuracy of genomic predictions and did not affect the accuracy of the Brahman predictions.  相似文献

An electron density map for the pepsin-like enzyme from Rhizopus chinensis has been calculated at 5.5Å resolution. The molecular boundary has been defined and certain secondary structural details have been inferred. Core temperature decreases throughout short-term maximal exercise in heart-failure patients. To investigate possible causes for this unusual response to exercise, we studied core (pulmonary arterial blood), femoral vein, muscle, and skin temperatures in eight patients with severe heart failure who performed maximal upright incremental bicycle exercise to 50 W. A normal group (n = 4) was exercised for comparison. In the heart-failure patients, core temperature was 36.95 +/- 0.37 degrees C at rest, significantly (P less than 0.05) decreased at 25 W of exercise to 36.59 +/- 0.40 degrees C, and at 50 W remained decreased to 36.57 +/- 0.40 degrees C. In comparison, we found that the resting core temperature in the normal subjects was 37.28 +/- 0.34 degrees C, was the same at 25 W (37.29 +/- 0.41 degrees C), and increased significantly (P less than 0.05) to 37.50 +/- 0.32 degrees C at 50 W of exercise. Femoral vein temperature in heart-failure patients (n = 6) was below core temperature throughout exercise to 25 and 50 W (36.22 +/- 0.62 and 36.34 +/- 0.65 degrees C, respectively). Muscle temperature (n = 7) was significantly (P less than 0.05) lower in the heart-failure patients (34.8 +/- 1.1 degrees C) at rest compared with the normal subjects (36.2 +/- 1.0 degrees C). During exercise, muscle temperature increased above core temperature in only four of the heart-failure patients and was significantly (P less than 0.05) lower (36.5 +/- 1.3 degrees C) compared with the normal subjects (38.0 +/- 0.2 degrees C).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Previous studies based on analysis of amoA, 16S ribosomal RNA or accA gene sequences have established that marine Thaumarchaeota fall into two phylogenetically distinct groups corresponding to shallow- and deep-water clades, but it is not clear how water depth interacts with other environmental factors, including light, temperature and location, to affect this pattern of diversification. Earlier studies focused on single-gene distributions were not able to link phylogenetic structure to other aspects of functional adaptation. Here, we analyzed the genome content of 46 uncultivated single Thaumarchaeota cells sampled from epi- and mesopelagic waters of subtropical, temperate and polar oceans. Phylogenomic analysis showed that populations diverged by depth, as expected, and that mesopelagic populations from different locations were well mixed. Functional analysis showed that some traits, including putative DNA photolyase and catalase genes that may be related to adaptive mechanisms to reduce light-induced damage, were found exclusively in members of the epipelagic clade. Our analysis of partial genomes has thus confirmed the depth differentiation of Thaumarchaeota populations observed previously, consistent with the distribution of putative mechanisms to reduce light-induced damage in shallow- and deep-water populations.  相似文献
