Potential interactions between climate change and exotic plant invasions may affect areas of high conservation value, such
as land set aside for the protection of endangered species or ecological communities. We investigated this issue in eastern
Australia using species distribution models for five exotic vines under climate regimes for 2020 and 2050. We examined how
projected changes in the distribution of climatically suitable habitat may coincide with the remaining remnants of an endangered
ecological community—littoral rainforests—in this region. The number of known infestations of each weed in tropical, subtropical
and temperate areas was used to assess the likelihood of further expansion into areas projected to provide suitable habitat
under future conditions. Littoral rainforest reserves were consistently predicted to provide bioclimatically suitable habitat
for the five vines examined under both current and future climate scenarios. We explore the consequences and potential strategies

The circadian behavior of the desert iguana, Dipsosaurus dorsalis, was investigated on the basis of behavioral observation and electrophysiological recording. D. dorsalis adequately complies with accepted criteria for both behavioral sleep and paradoxical sleep. At 20 degrees C, 12% of the photophase is spent in sleep, 95% of the scotophase is spent in sleep. Paradoxical sleep occurs at all times of the year, but only at temperatures of 20 and 30 degrees C. Amounts of behavioral sleep are affected by both temperature and time of year. Total sleep increases with decreased day length and decreased temperature. Summary Methotrexate (MTX) was first conjugated to antibovine serum albumin IgG (antiBSA) or its F(ab)2 fragment to define conditions for retention of drug and antibody activity. With identical drug: protein molar ratios, incorporation in the F(ab)2 fragment was lower than in intact antiBSA, an observation consistent with analysis of the number of lysine residues (22 in F(ab)2 compared to 40 in antiBSA). In either case, up to approximately 10 mol MTX could be incorporated per mol protein, with recovery of 70% of the protein. At an incorporation ratio of 6 mol MTX per mol protein, MTX-antiBSA retained 100% of antibody activity and MTX-F(ab)2antiBSA retained 75%. MTX-antiBSA and MTX-F(ab)2antiBSA were equally potent in vitro inhibitors of dihydrofolate reductase. Conjugates prepared from antiEL4 IgG (AELG) and from F(ab)2AELG significantly increased survival in EL4 lymphoma-bearing mice compared with mice receiving equal amounts (5 mg MTX/kg) of free MTX, MTX linked to the F(ab)2 fragment of normal rabbit IgG, or a simple mixture of MTX and F(ab)2AELG. In many animals, response to predators occurs at greater distances the further an individual is from a refuge, but this has rarely been investigated in birds. Here, we test the hypothesis that the further from refuge (i.e. water) a foraging black swan Cygnus atratus is situated, the longer its flight initiation distance (FID) in response to a pedestrian approach on land. As predicted, swans situated farther from water exhibited longer FIDs compared with those closer to the shore. In addition, there was the possibility of an interesting interaction effect (p < 0.061) of sex and direction of approach on FID. Whilst males tended to not alter their response in relation to the angle of approach relative to the water, females tended to respond at longer distances, when approached from the shore than when approached from the land or parallel to the shore. This is one of the first reports of sex differences in FIDs for birds, with sex differences only manifesting themselves under certain approach types.
