Following the appearance of several antimicrobial agents to control the spread of infections, two major challenges have emerged: (i) the occurrence and blowout of multiresistant bacteria and the increase of chronic diseases and (ii) difficult-to-eradicate infections. In this study, we tested five benzoylthiourea derivatives for their ability to inhibit and stop bacterial growth and evaluated the possible influence of 1,2,4-triazolyl-benzoylthiourea derivative 4 on the formation and eradication of Staphylococcus aureus biofilms. Benzoylthiourea derivatives 4 , 6 , 10 , 11 and 13 were obtained in one or two steps with low cost and subjected to tests to identify their minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration. In vitro tests were also performed to assess their effects on biofilm formation and in preformed biofilms and scanning electron microscopy was used to visualize the effects on biofilm formation. The 1,2,4-triazolyl-benzoylthiourea derivative 4 showed bacteriostatic activity against the S. aureus HU25 clinical strain with an MIC of 16 µg ml−1, which is below the toxic concentration (at 2500 µg ml−1, 62·25% of the cells remained viable). Compound 4 also effectively prevented biofilm formation at the three subinhibitory concentrations tested (1/2 MIC, 1/4 MIC and 1/8 MIC) as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy. For breakdown of formed biofilms, the main influence was at a subinhibitory concentration (1/2 MIC). Mitochondria from Vigna sinensis (L.) Savi cv. Pitiuba contain the polyamines spermine, spermidine, and putrescine. The membrane-bound F1-ATPase from mitochondria of Vigna sinensis is activated by these polyamines at physiological concentrations. The effect of polyamines on the membrane-bound of F1-ATPase is dependent on the concentrations of Na+, K+, MgATP, and Mg2+. Excess Na+ or K+ prevents the activation of the membrane-bound F1-ATPase by spermine and spermidine, but not by putrescine. The most pronounced effects were observed at low MgATP concentrations in the absence of Na+ and K+. At [MgATP] = 0.08 mM, spermine activation of the membrane-bound F1-ATPase was 130%. The membrane-bound F1-ATPase is slightly activated by Mg2+ at lower concentrations and strongly inhibited by Mg2+ at higher concentrations. Activation as well as inhibition is dependent on the substrate MgATP concentration. Although there is competition between Mg2+ and MgATP, the binding sites for these two ligands are different (pseudocompetitive inhibition). The inhibition of the membrane-bound F1-ATPase can be reversed by polyamines. There is evidence that the binding sites for Mg2+ and polyamines are identical. The F1-ATPase detached from the membrane is neither activated by polyamines nor inhibited by Mg2+. Therefore, the binding sites for Mg2+ and polyamines seem to be localized on the membrane. 相似文献

Guaraná (Paullinia cupana) is a woody vine or sprawling shrub native to the central Amazon Basin. The seeds are commercially produced on some 6,000 ha in the state of Amazonas near Manaus. Biodecolourisation of an azo dye by anaerobic cultures using a liposomal textile levelling agent as primary substrate was assessed. Liposomes seem to facilitate the uptake of the dye (Acid Orange 7) by anaerobic biomass, leading to a fast decolourisation (colour removal of 96% was achieved in the first sample port of the reactor profiles). On the other hand, the presence of dye (60–300 mg l−1) caused a decrease in the chemical oxygen demand (COD) degradation rate (4.1–2.5 g COD removed l−1 d−1 for 60 and 300 mg l−1 of dye, respectively), suggesting inhibitory effects.Aerobic degradation of aromatic amines was investigated in aerobic respirometric assays with different types of inocula. Sulfanilic acid and aniline were mineralised by inocula with a significant microbiological diversity, even with domestic effluent. These results were confirmed by a significant reduction of COD, total organic carbon (TOC) and a high oxygen consumption (biochemical oxygen demand/theoretical oxygen demand), 92±4%. Kinetic analysis showed that a sigmoid function describes quite well the experimental data, even better than the exponential model. The possibility that escape or evasive mimicry evolved in butterflies and other prey insects in a similar fashion to classical Batesian and Müllerian mimicry has long been advanced in the literature. However, there is a general disagreement among lepidopterists and evolutionary biologists on whether or not escape mimicry exists, as well as in which mimicry rings this form of mimicry has evolved. Here, we review some purported cases of escape mimicry in Neotropical butterflies and suggest new mimicry rings involving several species of Archaeoprepona, Prepona, and Doxocopa (the “bright blue bands” ring) and species of Colobura and Hypna (the “creamy bands” ring) where the palatability of butterflies, their ability to escape predator attacks, geographic distribution, relative abundance, and co-occurrence in the same habitats strongly suggest that escape mimicry is involved. In addition, we also indicate other butterfly taxa whose similarities of coloration patterns could be due to escape mimicry and would constitute important case studies for future investigation. 相似文献
