We investigated whether selective muscle mechanoreceptor activation in the lower limb opposes arm muscle metaboreceptor activation-mediated limb vasoconstriction. Seven subjects completed two trials: one control trial and one stretch trial. Both trials included 2 min of handgrip and 2 min of posthandgrip exercise muscle ischemia (PEMI). In the stretch trial, a 2-min sustained triceps surae stretch, by brief passive dorsiflexion of the right foot, was performed simultaneously during PEMI. Mean arterial pressure, heart rate, and forearm blood flow (FBF) in the nonexercised arm and forearm vascular conductance (FVC) in the nonexercised arm were measured. During PEMI in the control trial, mean arterial pressure was significantly greater and FBF and FVC were significantly lower than baseline values (P < 0.05 for each). In contrast, FBF and FVC during PEMI in the stretch trial exhibited different responses than in the control trial. FBF and FVC were significantly greater in the stretch trial than in the control trial (FBF, 5.5 +/- 0.4 vs. 3.8 +/- 0.4 ml x 100 ml(-1) x min(-1); FVC, 0.048 +/- 0.004 vs. 0.033 +/- 0.003 unit, respectively; P < 0.05). These results indicate that passive triceps surae stretch can inhibit vasoconstriction in the nonexercised forearm mediated via muscle metaboreceptor activation in the exercised arm.  相似文献

Fasted mice show torpor-like hypothermia in the cold in their inactive phase. The aim of the present study was to elucidate whether leptin and/or ghrelin are involved in this reaction and to identify its neurophysiological mechanisms. In ob/ob mice, which lack leptin, metabolic heat production (oxygen consumption, Vo(2)) was suppressed in 20°C cold in both the light and dark phases, resulting in hypothermia. When wild-type mice received a systemic injection of 8 μg ghrelin in the early light phase, followed by a 2-h cold exposure to 10°C, their core body temperature (T(b)) decreased by 1.7°C, and they displayed a less marked increase in Vo(2) compared with vehicle-injected mice. However, ghrelin injection in the early dark phase resulted in the maintenance of T(b) and increased Vo(2) in the mice, which was similar to the result observed in the vehicle-injected mice. The number of doubly labeled neurons with cFos and neuropeptide Y (NPY) in the suprachiasmatic nucleus was greater in the light phase in the ghrelin-injected mice, which may suggest that ghrelin activates NPY neurons. On the contrary, in the paraventricular nucleus, the counts became greater only when they were exposed to the cold in the dark phase. These results indicate that ghrelin plays an important role in inducing time-dependent changes in thermoregulation in the cold via hypothalamic pathways.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of increases in calf volume on cardiovascular responses during handgrip (HG) exercise and post-HG exercise muscle ischemia (PEMI). Seven subjects completed two trials: one control (no occlusion) and one venous occlusion (VO) session. Both trials included a baseline measurement followed by 15 min of rest (REST), 2 min of HG, and 2 min of PEMI. VO was applied at 100 mmHg via cuffs placed around both distal thighs during REST, HG, and PEMI. Mean arterial pressure, heart rate, forearm blood flow (FBF) in the nonexercised arm, and forearm vascular resistance (FVR) in the nonexercised arm (FVR) were measured. During REST and HG, there were no significant differences between trials in all parameters. During PEMI in the control trial, mean arterial pressure and FVR were significantly greater and FBF was significantly lower than baseline values (P < 0.05 for each). In contrast, in the VO trial, FBF and FVR responses were different from control responses. In the VO trial, FBF was significantly greater than in the control trial (4.7 +/- 0.5 vs. 2.5 +/- 0.3 ml x 100 ml(-1) x min(-1), P < 0.05) and FVR was significantly lower (28.0 +/- 4.8 vs. 49.1 +/- 4.6 units, respectively, P < 0.05). These results indicate that increases in vascular resistance in the nonexercised limb induced by activation of the muscle chemoreflex can be attenuated by increases in calf volume.  相似文献

Humanin is a secreted bioactive peptide that is protective in a variety of death models, including cell-based neuronal death models related to Alzheimer''s disease (AD). To mediate the protective effect in AD-related death models, Humanin signals via a cell-surface receptor that is generally composed of three subunits: ciliary neurotrophic factor receptor α, WSX-1 and gp130 (heterotrimeric Humanin receptor; htHNR). However, the protective effect of Humanin via the htHNR is weak (EC50=1–10 μℳ); therefore, it is possible that another physiological agonist for this receptor exists in vivo. In the current study, calmodulin-like skin protein (CLSP), a calmodulin relative with an undefined function, was shown to be secreted and inhibit neuronal death via the htHNR with an EC50 of 10–100 pℳ. CLSP was highly expressed in the skin, and the concentration in circulating normal human blood was ∼5 nℳ. When administered intraperitoneally in mice, recombinant CLSP was transported across the blood-cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)-barrier and its concentration in the CSF reaches 1/100 of its serum concentration at 1 h after injection. These findings suggest that CLSP is a physiological htHNR agonist.  相似文献

Rats place their tails underneath their body trunks when cold (tail-hiding behavior). The aim of the present study was to determine whether this behavior is necessary to maintain body temperature. Male Wistar rats were divided into ‘fed’ and ‘42-h fasting’ groups. A one-piece tail holder (8.4 cm in length) that prevented the tail-hiding behavior or a three-piece tail holder (2.8 cm in length) that allowed for the tail-hiding behavior was attached to the tails of the rats. The rats were exposed to 27°C for 180 min or to 20°C for 90 min followed by 15°C for 90 min with continuous body temperature and oxygen consumption measurements. Body temperature decreased by −1.0 ± 0.1°C at 15°C only in the rats that prevented tail-hiding behavior of the 42-h fasting group, and oxygen consumption increased at 15°C in all animals. Oxygen consumption was not different between the rats that prevented tail-hiding behavior and the rats that allowed the behavior in the fed and 42-h fasting groups under ambient conditions. These results show that the tail-hiding behavior is involved in thermoregulation in the cold in fasting rats.  相似文献

The significance of light irradiation in Sekiguchi lesion (SL) formation by infection with Magnaporthe grisea on rice cv. Sekiguchi-asahi was investigated. When the leaf blades of cv. Sekiguchi-asahi inoculated with M. grisea spores were kept under different wavelengths of light. SLs were formed under visible light regardless of the compatibility between fungal race and cv. Sekiguchi-asahi. On the contrary, typical blast and/or nectrotic spot lesions were formed under near ultraviolet radiation from the black light fluorescent lamps and near infrared radiation from infrared fluorescent lamps. The effective wavelength for light-dependent SL formation was 400–700 nm. Furthermore, the longer the wavelength of radiation, the bigger were the SLs. Such light-dependent induction of the SL was suppressed by pretreatment of 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-l,l-dimethylurea (DCMU) and cycloheximide (CY). These results suggested that photosynthetic and protein synthetic activities were involved in SL formation.  相似文献
