Age-Related Peculiarities of Physiology of Human Mitral Valve

Hemodynamic characteristics of mitral valve of the human heart were studied in newborns and adults. The formulas for measuring transmitral flow velocity and for calculating the valve orifice area were proposed.     

Effect of dehydrocorrine-cobalt complex on mitochondria

The effects of the decamethyloctadehydrocorrine-cobalt complex (Co-C) on respiration and the ATP-synthetase activity of rat liver mitochondria were investigated. The Co-C complex was found to be an effective shunt of the respiratory chain. It accepts electrons from ubiquinone and donates them directly to O2. The Co-C complex inhibits the ATPase and ATP-synthetase activities of mitochondria.     

Removal of biologically active admixtures from immunoglobulin preparations

Inclusion of an additional treatment of the products obtained at centrifugation stages b1 and b13 with activated bentonite and aluminium hydroxide into the alcohol method for the production of immunoglobulin from placental and abortion blood permits obtaining preparations with lowered content of proteolytic enzymes and thermostable acid phosphatase, free from chorionic gonadotropin and blood pigment. The treatment of the final preparation with DEAE cellulose removes blood group antigens from immunoglobulins. The preparations obtained by this method have been shown to meet the requirements for immunoglobulins imposed by technological specifications.     

Immunoenzyme analysis of adenovirus hexons. Indication and characteristics of rabbit and mouse antibodies against hexons

An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed for analysis of rabbit and mouse IgG antibodies specific to adenoviral hexon. The anti-hexon antibodies were detected by capture with purified hexon coated onto polystyrene microtiter plates and visualizing them by respective anti-IgG horseradish peroxidase conjugates. In the sera from hyperimmunized rabbits and mice as well as in the mouse ascite fluids the ELISA procedure revealed primarily type-specific (epsilon) and genus-specific (alpha) antigenic determinants in hexon but not those of intermediate specificities.     

Demethylation of methindione]

Methindion demethylation was shown to occur in rats. This process proceeds with the participation of NADPH-dependent transport system of microsomal electrons. In experiments in vivo methindion demethylation coursed at a high rate and was accompanied by a partial loss of its anticonvulsive effects.     

Nonspecificity of the phenomenon of influenza virus phagocytosis by murine macrophages

Peritoneal macrophage cultures from intact mice and those immune to influenza virus A/PR/8/34 (HON1) were infected with homologous virus or influenza virus A/England/42/72 (H3N2) whereupon virus was isolated from chick embryos. It was established that in intact macrophages, both viruses duplicated similarly. Macrophages immune to virus HON1 equally disintegrated both in homologous virus and heterologous influenza virus H3N2.
