Introduction  

Maladaptive physiological responses to stress appear to play a role in chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, relatively little stress research in RA patients has involved the study of pain, the most commonly reported and most impairing stressor in RA. In the present study, we compared psychophysical and physiological responses to standardized noxious stimulation in 19 RA patients and 21 healthy controls.  相似文献

Abstract The effectiveness of immunofluorescence flow cytometry and cell sorting to detect, quantify and separate indigenous bacterial populations present in low concentrations in sewage outflow was investigated. Preparatory experiments for targeted recovery revealed indigenous, immunoglobulin-G-binding particles present at low levels in sewage outflow samples taken from Coniston Water. Fluorescence-activated cell sorting of this population was employed to enrich for these particles, which were confirmed as bacterial cells. This cell population comprised approximately 23% of the total plate count on MacConkey agar before cell sorting, rising to approximately 95% after sorting. These results corresponded to cell densities of less than 5% of the total plate count on R2A agar. Taxonomic tests suggested the bacterium to be Ochrobactrum anthropi .  相似文献

Using triple-colour fluorescent in situ hybridization in decondensed sperm heads, we assessed the sex-chromosome distribution in spermatozoa from a 47,XYY male compared with controls. The incidence of spermatozoa with 24,XY (0.30%) and 24,YY (1.01%) disomy was significantly higher than in our control series. Diploid meiocytes present in the ejaculate were mainly 47,XYY (60.6–86.7%), and haploid meiocytes were mainly 24,XY (78.1%).These results suggest that, although the extra Y chromosome is thought to be eliminated during spermatogenesis, XYY germ cells can complete meiosis and produce disomic spermatozoa. Summary A significant increase in the incidence of structural chromosome anomalies has been observed in the sperm of patients treated with radio and/or chemotherapy for different types of cancer when analyzed by the interspecific fertilization of hamster eggs. The analysis of these aberrations shows that while in controls only 9.4% of structural abnormalities are of the stable type, in treated patients this figure increases to 39.3%, thus indicating that the anomalies have not been produced during the fertilization of the hamster egg. However, it is possible that part, or even most, of the breaks appear as a result of a reduced repair capacity of sperm chromosomes in the cytoplasm of the hamster egg.  相似文献

Ovariectomized Wistar rats received bilateral electrolytic (n = 24) or sham (n = 11) lesion of the nucleus accumbens. Following priming with estradiol benzoate (25 micrograms/rat) and progesterone (0.5 mg/rat) they were tested for sexual behavior with a stud male. Tests were carried out once prior to operation and twice postoperatively. Both lordosis and rejection behaviors as responses to male mount attempts were evaluated for each session. Proceptive patterns (hopping, darting and presenting) were also recorded. Females with accumbens lesion did not differ from control animals either with regard to lordosis or to soliciting behaviors. On the contrary, the lesioned group showed a statistically significant increase in rejection behavior in both postoperative sessions (p less than 0.05 and p less than 0.002). In conclusion, nucleus accumbens lesion dissociated the normal correlation between lordosis and rejection responses to male mount attempts without affecting soliciting behaviors. This finding is thought to be related to the hyperreactivity produced by nucleus accumbens lesion.  相似文献

Response of fourth-instar larvae of Anopheles albimanus Wiedemann (Diptera: Culicidae) to food and inert particles floating at the water surface was studied. In a choice test, larvae aggregated at powdered organic materials (blood meal, liver powder alfalfa flour and wheat flour) but not at inert materials (kaolin, chalk or charcoal). Larvae responded positively to proteins as well as some carbohydrates, but not to cellulose. Retention of larvae at food sources found by random locomotion was found to be responsible for larval aggregation. Larvae ingested food particles 6–9 times faster than insert particles. The significance of Anopheline feeding behavior in the development of formulations of stomach toxins (bacterial agents) used in larval control is discussed.
Zusammenfassung Die vorliegende Studie befasst sich mit Verhaltensreaktionen von Anopheles albimanus Viertlarven auf an der Wasseroberfläche schwimmende Partikel. Verteilung und Orientierung der Larven wurde in einer Wahlapparatur quantifiziert. Nach Auftrag von Alfalfamehl, Weizenmehl, Stärke, Blutmehl, Leberpulver und Fischmehl wurde Aggregation der Larven in den beköderten Fächern der Apparatur beobachtet. Sowohl Proteine (Casein) als auch einige Kohlehydrate (Amylose, Amylopectin) lösten Aggregationen der Larven aus. Im Unterschied dazu führte Auftrag von Kreide, Kaolin, Polyaethylenpulver, Talcum oder Cellulose nicht zu Aggregationen. Zur Beschreibung der Entstehung larvaler Aggregationen bei Futterstoffen wurden die Schwimmbewegungen der Larven in Anwesenheit von Weizenmehl als Ködersubstanz quantifiziert. Da keine Attraktion der Larven im Sinne einer gerichteten Schwimmbewegung beobachtet werden konnte, wird geschlussfolgert, dass sofortige Beendung der Suchaktivität der Larven bei zufällig gefundenen Futterquellen für die beobachteten Aggregationen bei organischen Substanzen verantwortlich ist.Die Fressraten der Larven bei Angebot verschiedener Substanzen im Überschuss wurde bestimmt. Larven fülten drei von insgesamt sechs Darmabschnitten innerhalb von 15–30 min bei Angebot von Futtersubstanzen, während die Füllung von nur zwei Darmabschnitten mit inerten Materialien erst nach 90–120 min zu beobachten war. Die Resultate werden in Bezug auf wasseroberflächengebundene Formulierungen von Frassgiften diskutiert. Inerte Trägersubstanzen werden wahrscheinlich wesentlich langsamer aufgenommen als Futtersubstanzen. Da An. albimanus Larven nicht von Futterquellen angezogen werden, ist eine rasche und wirksame Giftaufnahme besonders dann zu erwarten, wenn die gesamte Oberfläche der Brutgewässer mit toxinhaltigen Trägerpartikeln bedeckt werden kann.
