Humans have been shown to adapt to the temporal statistics of timing tasks so as to optimize the accuracy of their responses, in agreement with the predictions of Bayesian integration. This suggests that they build an internal representation of both the experimentally imposed distribution of time intervals (the prior) and of the error (the loss function). The responses of a Bayesian ideal observer depend crucially on these internal representations, which have only been previously studied for simple distributions. To study the nature of these representations we asked subjects to reproduce time intervals drawn from underlying temporal distributions of varying complexity, from uniform to highly skewed or bimodal while also varying the error mapping that determined the performance feedback. Interval reproduction times were affected by both the distribution and feedback, in good agreement with a performance-optimizing Bayesian observer and actor model. Bayesian model comparison highlighted that subjects were integrating the provided feedback and represented the experimental distribution with a smoothed approximation. A nonparametric reconstruction of the subjective priors from the data shows that they are generally in agreement with the true distributions up to third-order moments, but with systematically heavier tails. In particular, higher-order statistical features (kurtosis, multimodality) seem much harder to acquire. Our findings suggest that humans have only minor constraints on learning lower-order statistical properties of unimodal (including peaked and skewed) distributions of time intervals under the guidance of corrective feedback, and that their behavior is well explained by Bayesian decision theory.  相似文献

A dynamical model for an N-terminal fragment of the human CD4 protein has been determined by computer simulation. The protein has been studied both in vacuo and in solution. Data from both simulations agree moderately well with each other and with the crystal structure. All elements of secondary structure were retained during simulation. Point mutation and sequence replacement studies have shown that a loop in CD4, residues 40–52, is involved in binding with gp120, the human immunodeficiency virus surface glycoprotein.1,2 Our results show that the gp120-binding loop and a few regions which bind to monoclonal antibodies and class II MHC molecules are the most highly motile areas of the protein. These results are consistent with the suggestion that CD4 binds to target molecules by using induced-fit contacts. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The heritability of sole pattern ridge counts was examined in two family studies of endogamous castes from peninsular India. The phenotypes included ridge counts for each of the eight configurational areas separately, all areas combined, and only distal areas combined. Differences in heritability estimates were found between populations as well as among the individual configurational areas. Although some ridge counts do not show familial resemblance, others appear to be moderately heritable. Estimates of h2 range from 0.36 to 0.63 in one family series and from 0.22 to 0.51 in the other. In addition, significant uterine environmental effects were detected in one family series but not in the other.  相似文献

Trends in the time course, changes in the moisture, soluble amino acids, proline, abscisic acid contents and nitrate reductase activity determined byin vivo method in the developing seeds of wheat were studied. Maximum dry matter augmentation in the seed took place in the period between 10–30 days after anthesis. Per cent moisture and moisture content started declining 15 days and 25 days after anthesis, respectively. Levels of soluble amino acids, proline and nitrate reductase activity were higher during initial stages of seed development, but decreased with increasing magnitude of dehydration and accumulation of abscisic acid (ABA) in the maturing seeds.  相似文献

Glutathione reductase from human erythrocytes was inactivated by ethoxyformic anhydride, and > 95% activity was lost by modification of about 1–1.5 histidine residues per flavin (or subunit), as measured by the increased absorbance at 240 nm. Full reactivation was obtained with hydroxylamine. The rate of inactivation increased with pH and an apparent pK = 5.9 was obtained for the protolytic dissociation. The modified enzyme was inactive with NADPH and GSSG as substrates, but almost fully active in catalysis of a transhydrogenase reaction involving pyridine nucleotides. The visible absorption spectrum of oxidized or two-electron-reduced enzyme was not changed, but the flavin fluorescence of oxidized enzyme increased 2-fold after the modification. NADPH or NADP+ did not protect the enzyme against inactivation. It is concluded that the modification affects a histidine involved in the second half-reaction of the catalysis, i.e. reduction of GSSG by the dithiol of reduced enzyme. Glutathione reductase from three additional mammalian sources was similarly inactivated, but enzyme from yeast was much less inactivated by the corresponding treatment with ethoxyformic anhydride.  相似文献

The present study estimated length–weight relationships (LWRs) for six indigenous fish species (Barilius gatensis, Salmostoma acinaces, S. boopis, Puntius amphibius, Hemibagrus punctatus and Ambassis miops) based on specimens collected from River Cauvery (including estuary) during July 2017–January 2020. The sampling surveys were carried out in three distinct sampling seasons, viz., the pre-monsoon (March–May), the monsoon (July–October) and the post-monsoon (November–February). Majority of the fish specimens dealt in the study were collected from multi-meshed monofilament gill nets (mesh sizes 18, 30, 45, 60, 90, 110, 120 and 150 mm) operated by local fishers. For those sites situated in the protected areas, sampling was carried out by cast nets with prior permission from the local administration and the collected fishes were released back into river after length–weight measurements. The length measurements were noted as total length (TL) measured to the nearest 0.1 cm by using a digital Vernier caliper. A digital balance was used for weight measurements with an accuracy of 0.01 g. The study recorded a new maximum length of 48 cm for H. punctatus. The LWR data generated from the present study are significant for proper assessment of the stock status and their management, if collected together with other essential biological and physical parameters.  相似文献

In total, 53 marine actinobacteria were isolated from the soils of six different locations in Goa and Kerala, on the west coast of India. All the isolates were screened for their antifungal properties against some phytopathogenic fungi by dual culture experiments. Among the 53 actinobacterial isolates, five isolates inhibited the growth of phytopathogens, namely Colletotrichum falcatum, Thielaviopsis paradoxa and Fusarium semitectum. But none of them were effective against Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus candidus and Aspergillus flavus. The antifungal activity of the actinobacteria was tested by food poisoning techniques, using four different concentrations (0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0%) of cell-free culture filtrates, which showed promising activity (almost 100% inhibition) against three pathogenic and one non-pathogenic fungi at 2% extract concentration. A comparison of the antifungal activity of the actinobacteria was also made with three commercial fungicides, namely hexaconazole, thiophanate methyl and propiconazole. The identity of the antagonistic actinobacteria was confirmed based on the morphological, cultural, biochemical, chemo-taxonomical and physiological characteristics. Among 5 antagonistic isolates, three antagonistic isolates were assigned to the genus Streptomyces, Nocardiopsis (1) and Saccharopolyspora (1).  相似文献

RjpA in Rhodococcus jostii is the ortholog of a channel-forming porin, MspA. Deletion of rjpA delayed growth of R. jostii on cholate but not on cholesterol. Eventual growth on cholate involved increased expression of other porins, namely, RjpB, RjpC, and RjpD. Porins appear essential for the uptake of bile acids by mycolic acid bacteria.  相似文献

The molecular pathogenesis of avian influenza infection varies greatly with individual bird species and virus strain. The molecular pathogenesis of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAIV) or the low pathogenic avian influenza virus (LPAIV) infection in avian species remains poorly understood. Thus, global immune response of chickens infected with HPAI H5N1 (A/duck/India/02CA10/2011) and LPAI H9N2 (A/duck/India/249800/2010) viruses was studied using microarray to identify crucial host genetic components responsive to these infection. HPAI H5N1 virus induced excessive expression of type I IFNs (IFNA and IFNG), cytokines (IL1B, IL18, IL22, IL13, and IL12B), chemokines (CCL4, CCL19, CCL10, and CX3CL1) and IFN stimulated genes (OASL, MX1, RSAD2, IFITM5, IFIT5, GBP 1, and EIF2AK) in lung tissues. This dysregulation of host innate immune genes may be the critical determinant of the severity and the outcome of the influenza infection in chickens. In contrast, the expression levels of most of these genes was not induced in the lungs of LPAI H9N2 virus infected chickens. This study indicated the relationship between host immune genes and their roles in pathogenesis of HPAIV infection in chickens.  相似文献

Here, an effective design strategy of polymer thermoelectric materials based on structural control in doped polymer semiconductors is presented. The strategy is illustrated for two archetypical polythiophenes, e.g., poly(2,5‐bis(3‐dodecyl‐2‐thienyl)thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene) (C12‐PBTTT) and regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT). FeCl3 doping of aligned films results in charge conductivities up to 2 × 105 S cm?1 and metallic‐like thermopowers similar to iodine‐doped polyacetylene. The films are almost optically transparent and show strongly polarized near‐infrared polaronic bands (dichroic ratio >10). The comparative study of structure–property correlations in P3HT and C12‐PBTTT identifies three conditions to obtain conductivities beyond 105 S cm?1: i) achieve high in‐plane orientation of conjugated polymers with high persistence length; ii) ensure uniform chain oxidation of the polymer backbones by regular intercalation of dopant molecules in the polymer structure without disrupting alignment of π‐stacked layers; and iii) maintain a percolating nanomorphology along the chain direction. The highly anisotropic conducting polymer films are ideal model systems to investigate the correlations between thermopower S and charge conductivity σ. A scaling law S ∝ σ?1/4 prevails along the chain direction, but a different S ∝ ?ln(σ) relation is observed perpendicular to the chains, suggesting different charge transport mechanisms. The simultaneous increase of charge conductivity and thermopower along the chain direction results in a substantial improvement of thermoelectric power factors up to 2 mW m?1 K?2 in C12‐PBTTT.  相似文献
