We are proposing graphene (G)-based multilayered plasmonic spatial switch, operating at 10 THz. It is composed of hBN/Ag/hBN/G/hBN/G/hBN/SiO2/p+-Si multilayers. When a 10-THz transverse magnetic (TM)-polarized signal is normally incident upon the structure top surface, the nanoaperture devised in the Ag nanolayer, acting as a grating, excites surface plasmons at the top graphene micro-ribbons/hBN interface. These surface plasmons depending on the graphenes chemical potentials can be coupled to the lower-right or left graphene micro-ribbons and continue to propagate laterally towards the corresponding output port. Numerical simulations show that a change of ∆VG ≈ ± 2.7 V in the voltage, applied to the gated micro-ribbons, can modulate their chemical potentials sufficiently to switch the right (left) output port from ON (OFF) to OFF(ON) and vice versa. Besides its low power consumption, the switch ultra-small dimensions make it a potential spatial router suitable for THz-integrated circuit applications.

In the present study, radiation doses and cancer risks resulting from abdominopelvic radiotherapy planning computed tomography (RP-CT) and abdominopelvic diagnostic CT (DG-CT) examinations are compared. Two groups of patients who underwent abdominopelvic CT scans with RP-CT (n = 50) and DG-CT (n = 50) voluntarily participated in this study. The two groups of patients had approximately similar demographic features including mass, height, body mass index, sex, and age. Radiation dose parameters included CTDIvol, dose–length product, scan length, effective tube current, and pitch factor, all taken from the CT scanner console. The ImPACT software was used to calculate the patient-specific radiation doses. The risks of cancer incidence and mortality were estimated based on the BEIR VII report of the US National Research Council. In the RP-CT group, the mean ± standard deviation of cancer incidence risk for all cancers, leukemia, and all solid cancers was 621.58 ± 214.76, 101.59 ± 27.15, and 516.60 ± 189.01 cancers per 100,000 individuals, respectively, for male patients. For female patients, the corresponding risks were 742.71 ± 292.35, 74.26 ± 20.26, and 667.03 ± 275.67 cancers per 100,000 individuals, respectively. In contrast, for DG-CT cancer incidence risks were 470.22 ± 170.07, 78.23 ± 18.22, and 390.25 ± 152.82 cancers per 100,000 individuals for male patients, while they were 638.65 ± 232.93, 62.14 ± 13.74, and 575.73 ± 221.21 cancers per 100,000 individuals for female patients. Cancer incidence and mortality risks were greater for RP-CT than for DG-CT scans. It is concluded that the various protocols of abdominopelvic CT scans, especially the RP-CT scans, should be optimized with respect to the radiation doses associated with these scans.

In the present work we show that in the Drosophila genome (which covers a 37-51% GC range at a DNA size of approx.50kb) a linear correlation holds between GC (or GC(3)50kb) genomic sequences embedding them. This correlation allows us to position the two compositional distributions of (a) coding sequences, and (b) of long DNA segments relative to each other and to calculate gene concentration across the compositional range of the Drosophila genome. Using this approach, we show that gene concentration increases with increasing GC of the regions embedding the genes, reaching a 7-fold higher level in the GC-richest regions compared with the GC-poorest regions. The gene distribution of the Drosophila genome is, therefore, similar to (although less striking than) that of the human genome, whereas it is very different from those of the Arabidopsis genome, which has about the same size as the Drosophila genome.  相似文献

Success of tissue engineered constructs in regenerative medicine is limited by the lack of cellmatrix interactions to guide devleopment of the seeded cells into the desired tissue. This review highlights the most exciting developments in bioconjugation of synthetic hydrogels targeted to tissue engineering. Application of conjugation techniques has resulted in the synthesis of novel biomimetic cell-responsive hydrogels to control the cascade of cell migration, adhesion, survival, differentiation, and maturation to the desired lineage concurrent with matrix remodeling. The future outlook includes developing conjugated patterned hydrogel matrices, developing novel hydrogel matrices to support self-renewal and pluripotency of embryonic and adult stem cells, and merging 3D printing with bioconjugation to fabricate hydrogels with anatomical arrangement of cells and biomolecules.  相似文献

A group of 2-alkoxy-5-methoxyallylbenzene were designed, synthesised and evaluated as potential inhibitors of the soybean 15-lipoxygenase (SLO) on the basis of the eugenol and esteragol structures. Compound 4d showed the best half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC??) for SLO inhibition (IC???=?5.9?±?0.6 μM). All the compounds were docked in the SLO active site retrieved from the Research Collaboratory for Structural Bioinformatics (RCSB) Protein Data Bank (PDB entry: 1IK3) and showed that the allyl group of the synthetic compounds similar to the linoleic acid double bond, were oriented toward the Fe3+-OH moiety in the active site of the enzyme and this conformation was especially fixed by the hydrophobic interaction of the 2-alkoxy group with Leu?1?, Trp?1?, Val??? and Ile??2. It was concluded that the molecular volume and shape of the alkoxy moiety was a major factor in the inhibitory potency variation of the synthetic compounds.  相似文献

Diatoms are one of the most important constituents of phytoplankton communities in aquatic environments, but in spite of this, only recently have large-scale diatom-sequencing projects been undertaken. With the genome of the centric species Thalassiosira pseudonana available since mid-2004, accumulating sequence information for a pennate model species appears a natural subsequent aim. We have generated over 12,000 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from the pennate diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum, and upon assembly into a nonredundant set, 5,108 sequences were obtained. Significant similarity (E < 1E-04) to entries in the GenBank nonredundant protein database, the COG profile database, and the Pfam protein domains database were detected, respectively, in 45.0%, 21.5%, and 37.1% of the nonredundant collection of sequences. This information was employed to functionally annotate the P. tricornutum nonredundant set and to create an internet-accessible queryable diatom EST database. The nonredundant collection was then compared to the putative complete proteomes of the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, the red alga Cyanidioschyzon merolae, and the centric diatom T. pseudonana. A number of intriguing differences were identified between the pennate and the centric diatoms concerning activities of relevance for general cell metabolism, e.g. genes involved in carbon-concentrating mechanisms, cytosolic acetyl-Coenzyme A production, and fructose-1,6-bisphosphate metabolism. Finally, codon usage and utilization of C and G relative to gene expression (as measured by EST redundance) were studied, and preferences for utilization of C and CpG doublets were noted among the P. tricornutum EST coding sequences.  相似文献

Memory T cells do not require self-peptide/MHC (spMHC) complexes to survive long term in vivo. However, memory CD4 T cells lose the ability to reject skin grafts when transiently placed in an environment in which these low-level TCR stimulations are absent. Whether or not spMHC alters the ability of CD8 T cells to respond to stimulation in vivo remains unknown. Here, we show that memory CD8 T cells retain the ability to respond to dendritic cell-mediated stimulation after adoptive transfer into either TAP(-/-) (MHC class I-deficient) or wild-type mice. Surprisingly, naive CD8 T cells, which fail to undergo homeostatic proliferation and erode in number in the absence of MHC class I, also retain the ability to respond to dendritic cell-mediated antigenic stimulation for at least 1 wk after transfer into TAP(-/-) mice. These findings suggest a differential requirement for spMHC signals for maintenance of CD8 T cell function and homeostatic proliferation.  相似文献

An effective and simple strategy for preparing peptide crosslinkers is described. An MMP-13 degradable peptide QPQGLAK-NH(2) was prepared on the solid-phase using Fmoc chemistry. The peptide crosslinker was synthesized on-bead by the coupling reaction between acrylic acid and the amine groups of glutamine and lysine residues. The synthetic procedure employed the acid-labile Fmoc-Lys (Mtt)-OH and base-labile Fmoc-AA-OH derivatives. Selective deprotection, of -Mtt and -Fmoc groups on-bead, freed the amine end-groups on glutamine and lysine residues for coupling reaction with acrylic acid while maintaining the peptide attached to the resin. Subsequent cleavage from the resin yielded a peptide crosslinker with two unsaturated acrylate end-groups with high yield and purity. This method can be generally employed for the synthesis of a wide range of peptides with one or more reactive groups for grafting in the fabrication of biomimetic scaffolds in tissue engineering applications.  相似文献
