We present here a new, dedicated mechanical device for monitoring quick-release movements of the wrist. The ergometer was designed to easily assess musculotendinous properties during wrist flexion. Maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) and quick-release (QR) movements during wrist flexion were performed on 14 subjects. A validation of the ergometer, using a test-retest methodology, was performed to assess its reliability and sensitivity. The device has been technically and biomechanically validated in a range of situations, including inertia measurement (mean inertia was found 0.0119+/-0.0012 N m s(2) rad(-1)) and appearance of the unloading reflex. Our results indicate that the device provides highly reliable, sensitive evaluation of wrist muscle stiffness (intraclass correlation coefficient for inertia, maximal voluntary contraction and stiffness index were 0.873, 0.994 and 0.930, respectively). Its portability facilitates measurement of the influence of repetitive, occupational activity on the musculotendinous complex of the wrist flexors. 相似文献

The immunogenicity of a peptide consisting of eight repeats of the tetrapeptide sequence NANP (Asn-Ala-Asn-Pro) contained in the circumsporozoite protein of Plasmodium falciparum was investigated in mice under different modes of presentation. This peptide was able to produce biologically active antibodies when administered with adjuvant and linked to a protein carrier. However, a (NANP) peptide polymerized by carbodiimide was found to be immunogenic in the absence of protein carrier in H-2b mice. In contrast, the (NANP)8 peptide polymerized by glutaraldehyde was not immunogenic in the same strain. Furthermore, the efficacy of murabutide in saline, as an immunological adjuvant, was compared to the efficacy of Freund's complete adjuvant. 相似文献

Synthetic antigens have been shown, in experimental models, to induce protective immunity against a variety of pathogens. These studies have demonstrated that, due to their low immunogenicity, these synthetic antigens required conjugation to carrier molecules. Therefore, the choice of appropriate carriers for human immunization by future synthetic vaccines is a major issue. Tetanus toxoid is generally considered to be an effective potential carrier devoid of side-effects. However, the present study performed in mice with two synthetic vaccine models demonstrates that the immune response against the synthetic epitopes conjugated to tetanus toxoid can be suppressed by pre-existing immunity against this same carrier. Because most humans have been exposed to this antigen, this effect may have important implications for the development of synthetic vaccines. 相似文献

Treatment of barley (Hordeum vulgare) seedlings with 400 millimolar NaCl for 3 days resulted in a reduction in plant growth and an increase in the leaf content in ions (K+ + Na+) and proline. Purified mitochondria were successfully isolated from barley leaves. Good oxidative and phosphorylative properties were observed with malate as substrate. Malate-dependent electron transport was found to be only partly inhibited by cyanide, the remaining oxygen uptake being SHAM sensitive. The properties of mitochondria from NaCl-treated barley were modified. The efficiency of phosphorylation was diminished with only a slight decrease in the oxidation rates. In both isolated mitochondria and whole leaf tissue of treated plants, the lower respiration rate was due to a lower cytochrome pathway activity. In mitochondria, the activity of the alternative pathway was not modified by salt treatment, whereas this activity was increased in whole leaf tissue. The possible participation of the alternative pathway in response to salt stress will be discussed. 相似文献

The rates of uptake of exogenous L[U-14C] aspartate and glutamate into tissues of vegetative growing tips ofFucus serratus and their metabolism were studied in the dark. In these non-photosynthetic conditions, aspartate was fixed and metabolically converted more rapidly than glutamate. Radioactivity from14C-aspartate was principally transferred into glutamate. On the other hand, metabolism of absorbed14C-glutamate was very slow and its rate did not increase during incubation time, but produced more diversified soluble radioactive compounds. A novel endosperm-specific gene named Esr (e mbryo s urrounding r egion) has been isolated by differential display between early developmental stages of maize endosperms and embryos. It is expressed in a restricted region of the endosperm, surrounding the entire embryo at early stages (4 to 7 days after pollination, DAP) and ever-decreasing parts of the suspensor at subsequent stages. The expression starts at 4 DAP and is maintained until at least 28 DAP. A minimum of three Esr genes are present in the maize genome and at least two of them map to the short arm of chromosome 1 at position 56. The Esr genes contain no introns and show no significant nucleotide or amino acid sequence homologies to sequences in the databases. The open reading frames encode basic proteins of 14 kDa with presumptive signal peptides at their N-termini followed by a hypervariable and a conserved region. The gene product may play a role in the nutrition of the developing embryo or in the establishment of a physical barrier between embryo and endosperm. 相似文献

REMORINs (REMs) are a plant-specific protein family, proposed regulators of membrane-associated molecular assemblies and well-established markers of plasma membrane nanodomains. REMs play a diverse set of functions in plant interactions with pathogens and symbionts, responses to abiotic stresses, hormone signaling and cell-to-cell communication. In this review, we highlight the established and more putative roles of REMs throughout the literature. We discuss the physiological functions of REMs, the mechanisms underlying their nanodomain-organization and their putative role as regulators of nanodomain-associated molecular assemblies. Furthermore, we discuss how REM phosphorylation may regulate their functional versatility. Overall, through data-mining and comparative analysis of the literature, we suggest how to further study the molecular mechanisms underpinning the functions of REMs. 相似文献

In order to reduce the socio-economic burden induced by osteoporotic hip fractures, finite element models have been evaluated as an additional diagnostic tool for fracture prediction. For a future clinical application, the challenge is to reach the best compromise between model relevance and computing time. Based on this consideration, the current study focused on the development and validation of a subject-specific FE-model using an original parameterised generic model and a specific personalization method. A total of 39 human femurs were tested to failure under a quasi-static compression in stance configuration. The corresponding FE-models were generated and for each specimen the numerical fracture load (F FEM) was compared with the experimental value (F EXP), resulting in a significant correlation (F EXP = 1.006 F FEM with r 2 = 0.87 and SEE = 1220 N, p < 0.05) obtained with a reasonable computing time (30 mn). Further in vivo study should confirm the ability of this FE-model to improve the fracture risk prediction. 相似文献
