Herein, we report the results of irreversible inhibition of guinea pig liver transglutaminase (TGase) by a series of 24 novel dipeptides containing either an alpha,beta-unsaturated amide or an epoxide functional group. The results of carbon source assimilation tests on a group of psychrotrophic pseudomonas were compared with published data for established Pseudomonas taxa, using computer-assisted numerical taxonomic analysis and a modified diagnostic computer program. Several phenons were not grouped at the biovar level by numerical taxonomic analysis. Identification of strains by the diagnostic program revealed heterogeneity among those in the unassigned phenons, and supported a continuum concept among the fluorescent pseudomonads. 相似文献

Dynamical aspects of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are analysed with a view to determining the nature of fast-ion conduction in δ-Bi2O3. The ratio P α of the moments of the self-correlation density distribution function, the velocity autocorrelation function (VAF), VAF integrals and VAF Fourier transforms, together with mean square displacement (MSD) data are interpreted in the light of experiment. It is shown that O2- migration cannot adequately be described by either the hopping or liquid-like models of conduction but is best regarded as belonging to an intermediate category. Adaptation has been widely used to probe how experience shapes the visual encoding of faces, but the pattern of perceptual changes produced by adaptation and the neural mechanisms these imply remain poorly characterized. We explored how adaptation alters the perceived age of faces, a fundamental facial attribute which can uniquely and reliably be scaled by observers. This allowed us to measure how adaptation to one age level affected the full continuum of perceived ages. Participants guessed the ages of faces ranging from 18–89, before or after adapting to a different set of faces composed of younger, older, or middle-aged adults. Adapting to young or old faces induced opposite linear shifts in perceived age that were independent of the model''s age. Specifically, after adapting to younger or older faces, faces of all ages appeared 2 to 3 years older or younger, respectively. In contrast, middle-aged adaptors induced no aftereffects. This pattern suggests that adaptation leads to a simple and uniform renormalization of age perception, and is consistent with a norm-based neural code for the mechanisms mediating the perception of facial age. 相似文献

Research has shown that bird songs are modified in different ways to deal with urban noise and promote signal transmission through noisy environments. Urban noise is composed of low frequencies, thus the observation that songs have a higher minimum frequency in noisy places suggests this is a way of avoiding noise masking. Most studies are correlative and there is as yet little experimental evidence that this is a short-term mechanism owing to individual plasticity. Here we experimentally test if house finches (Carpodacus mexicanus) can modulate the minimum frequency of their songs in response to different noise levels. We exposed singing males to three continuous treatments: low–high–low noise levels. We found a significant increase in minimum frequency from low to high and a decrement from high to low treatments. We also found that this was mostly achieved by modifying the frequency of the same low-frequency syllable types used in the different treatments. When different low-frequency syllables were used, those sung during the noisy condition were longer than the ones sang during the quiet condition. We conclude that house finches modify their songs in several ways in response to urban noise, thus providing evidence of a short-term acoustic adaptation. 相似文献
