The Antitumor Activity of the Novel Compound Jesridonin on Human Esophageal Carcinoma Cells

Jesridonin, a small molecule obtained through the structural modification of Oridonin, has extensive antitumor activity. In this study, we evaluated both its in vitro activity in the cancer cell line EC109 and its in vivo effect on tumor xenografts in nude mice. Apoptosis induced by Jesridonin was determined using an MTT assay, Annexin-V FITC assay and Hoechest 33258 staining. Apoptosis via mitochondrial and death receptor pathways were confirmed by detecting the regulation of MDM2, p53, and Bcl-2 family members and by activation of caspase-3/-8/-9. In addition, vena caudalis injection of Jesridonin showed significant inhibition of tumor growth in the xenograft model, and Jesridonin-induced cell apoptosis in tumor tissues was determined using TUNEL. Biochemical serum analysis of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), total protein (TP) and albumin (ALB) indicated no obvious effects on liver function. Histopathological examination of the liver, kidney, lung, heart and spleen revealed no signs of JD-induced toxicity. Taken together, these results demonstrated that Jesridonin exhibits antitumor activity in human esophageal carcinomas EC109 cells both in vitro and in vivo and demonstrated no adverse effects on major organs in nude mice. These studies provide support for new drug development.

Molecular cloning,expression patterns and subcellular localization of porcine <Emphasis Type="Italic">TMCO1</Emphasis> gene

The product of transmembrane and coiled-coil domains 1 (TMCO1) gene is a member of DUF841 superfamily of several eukaryotic proteins with unknown function. The partial DNA sequence of porcine TMCO1 was first cloned with a pig 567 bp ORF encoding 188 amino acids. By tissues expression analysis, the TMCO1 was found highly expressed in the liver, kidney and heart. The porcine TMCO1 protein was subsequently demonstrated to localize in the mitochondrion by confocal fluorescence microscopy. This data provides an important basis for conducing further studies on the functions and regulatory mechanisms underlying the role of TMCO1 gene.

植物BBX转录因子基因家族的研究进展

转录因子在调控植物生长、发育及环境适应性等方面发挥重要作用。具有B-box结构域的一类锌指结构转录因子称为BBX,它们通过调控基因转录,与同类或其他转录因子的互作参与植物光形态建成、花发育、避荫效应、植物信号转导以及非生物和生物逆境响应等。文中从BBX蛋白结构、分类以及其功能方面对该类转录因子在植物中的作用进行了综述。     

Morphology and identification of the final instar nymphs of three cicadas (Hemiptera,Cicadidae) in Guanzhong Plain,China based on comparative morphometrics

The present investigation provides comparative morphometrics of the final instar nymphs of three dominant cicada species, i.e., Cryptotympana atrata (Fabricius), Meimuna mongolica (Distant) and Platypleura kaempferi (Fabricius), in Guanzhong Plain, China. Particularly, characters on the antennae, legs, and apex of abdomen of both males and females of these three species were investigated and analyzed. In addition, the numbers of hind tibial spines of the final instar nymphs of 21 representatives of Cicadoidea were compared. The results provide useful characteristics for nymph identification of related species and for further taxonomic and phylogenetic analysis of Cicadoidea.
