The age structure of the foliage of a 26-yr-old stand of Adenostoma fasciculatum H. & A. (chamise) was analyzed. The mean number of standing leaves and the yearly increase in leaf scars on the leaf-producing short shoots allowed an estimate of annual leaf production. The average chamise leaf persists for two seasons. Short shoots produce 4–6 leaves per yr; however after 4–5 yr their productivity declines. About 72% of the standing leaves were produced during the current and 28% during the foregoing season. Nearly one-half of all the leaves produced was found on current-year short shoots (i.e., on long shoots that had developed during the spring of the same year). 6 alpha-Methylprogesterone (6MP) is an androgenic progestin that binds to the androgen receptor. However, results from an in vivo study suggested that 6MP was also bound by a second receptor. In the present study, we found that 6MP was bound in kidney cytosol from adrenalectomized/ovariectomized female mice as well as Tfm/Y mice, which lack androgen receptors. 6MP was bound with high affinity (Kd = 1.2 X 10(-8) M) by a binder that was present in 7-8 times greater concentration than the androgen receptor and had the specificity of a glucocorticoid receptor. 6MP was bound with similar specificity in liver cytosol. These data indicate that, despite its androgenic effects, 6MP binds primarily to a glucocorticoid receptor in mouse kidney. 相似文献

Summary We have previously used surface iodination to discriminate between the protein patterns of epithelial cell surfaces in uteri of rabbits receptive (Day 6.5) or nonreceptive (Day 4) to nidation (Ricketts et al. 1984). In this paper, we describe application of the same technique to the trophoblastic surface of rabbit blastocysts collected on the same days of pregnancy. Analysis of labelled proteins by polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis under denaturing conditions did not reveal qualitative differences between the two days of pregnancy. Scanning densitometry was used to quantitate the area under each protein peak on an autoradiogram; these areas were used as variables in statistical analysis of the protein pattern of individual animals. Quantitative differences between the protein patterns of the two surfaces were detected by canonical variate analysis of the pattern of relative areas of labelled protein peaks. In proteins separated on 7.5% gels, this statistical analysis correctly assigned blastocysts from 8 out of 10 animals to one of two groups according to day of pregnancy. The discrimination was not statistically significant, however, in protein patterns on 12.5% gels, used to give better separation in the lower range of molecular weights. The same analysis in the uterus unequivocally separated the surface iodination patterns from these same days of pregnancy. Three rhesus (Macaca mulatta) and one cynomolgus (M. fascicularis) monkey were euthanized because of positive reactions to intradermal tests with mammalian Old Tuberculin (mOT). All the animals had gross or microscopic lesions consisting of unitized macro- or microgranulomas with central necrosis, involving the lung or mesenteric lymph nodes. Small numbers of acid fast organisms were demonstrated in the lesions. Mycobacterium avium complex, serotype 2 was isolated from three of the cases. The cases were unusual because the lesion morphology and mOT hypersensitivity were more typical of mammalian tuberculosis than avian tuberculosis in monkeys. 相似文献

Angiopoietin 2 (Ang2) is a secreted glycoprotein upregulated at sites of angiogenesis and has been implicated in cancer neovascularization. Recent studies have suggested efficacy of combined Ang and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) inhibition for patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). We measured Ang2 expression in human tissue and plasma, and tested the effect of dual Ang1/2 (trebananib; AMG386) or Ang2 alone (L1-7) inhibition with VEGFR inhibition on murine RCC growth and blood flow. Ang2 levels were higher in human tumors than normal tissues with RCC ranking highest for Ang2 expression across all tumor types tested. Plasma Ang2 was significantly higher in patients with mRCC compared to controls or patients with stage I disease. Plasma Ang2 decreased with sunitinib treatment and increased at time of disease progression. In the RCC mouse, dual Ang1/2 and Ang2 inhibition improved the activity of sunitinib. Combined Ang1/2 and VEGFR inhibition prevented the resumption of blood flow associated with sunitinib resistance. Thus, Ang2 inhibition, independent of Ang1 inhibition, improves the activity of sunitinib and plasma Ang2 increases in the setting of progression on sunitinib possibly contributing to resistance. Further, arterial spin-labeled perfusion magnetic resonance imaging might be a non-invasive marker of the antiangiogenic activity of Ang inhibitors. 相似文献

Potentials were recorded from the epidermal head lines and from the CNS of young cuttlefish, Sepia officinalis, in response to weak water movements. 1. Within the test range 0.5-400 Hz a sinusoidal water movement elicits up to 4 components of response if the electrode is placed on a headline: (i) a positive phasic ON response; (ii) a tonic frequency-following microphonic response; (iii) a slow negative OFF response; and (iv) compound nerve impulses. 2. The amplitude of both the ON wave and the microphonic potential depends on stimulus frequency, stimulus amplitude and stimulus rise time. Frequencies around 100 Hz and short rise times are most effective in eliciting strong potentials. The minimal threshold was 0.06 microns peak-to-peak water displacement at 100 Hz (18.8 microns/s as velocity). 3. Change of direction of tangential sphere movement (parallel vs. across the head lines) has only a small effect on the microphonic and the summed nerve potentials. 4. Frequency and/or amplitude modulations of a carrier stimulus elicit responses at the onset and offset of the modulation and marked changes in the tonic microphonic response. 5. Evoked potentials can be recorded from the brain while stimulating the epidermal lines with weak water movements. The brain potentials differ in several aspects from the potentials of the head lines and show little or no onset or offset wave at the transitions of a frequency and amplitude modulation. 相似文献
