Syrticola mediterraneus n. sp. belonging to the family Cylindropsyllidae Sars (sensu Lang, 1948) is described from the Bay of Calvi (Corsica). The species is closely related to (?) Food subsidies have the potential to modify ecosystems and affect the provision of goods and services. Predictable Anthropogenic Food Subsidies (PAFS) modify ecosystems by altering ecological processes and food webs. The global concern over the effects of PAFS in ecosystems has led to development of environmental policies aimed at curbing the production or ultimately banning of PAFS. However, the effects of reducing or banning PAFS are not known. We explore the consequences of PAFS removal in a marine ecosystem under two scenarios: 1) gradual reduction, or 2) an abrupt ban, using a mass balance model to test these hypotheses–The reduction or loss of PAFS will: i) modify trophic levels and food webs through effects on foraging by opportunistic species, ii) increase the resilience of opportunistic species to food shortages, and iii) modify predator–prey interactions through shifts in prey consumption. We found that PAFS lower the trophic levels of opportunistic scavengers and increase their food pathways. Scavengers are able to switch prey when PAFS are reduced gradually but they decline when PAFS are abruptly banned. PAFS reduction to a certain minimal level causes a drop in the ecosystem’s stability. We recommend gradual reduction of PAFS to a minimal level that would maintain the ecosystem’s stability and allow species exploiting PAFS to habituate to the food subsidy reduction. 相似文献

Rat transferrin or asialotransferrin doubly radiolabelled with 59Fe and 125I was injected into rats. A determination of extrahepatic and hepatic uptake indicated that asialotransferrin delivers a higher fraction of the injected 59Fe to the liver than does transferrin. In order to determine in vivo the intrahepatic recognition sites for transferrin and asialotransferrin, the liver was subfractionated into parenchymal, endothelial and Kupffer cells by a low-temperature cell isolation procedure. High-affinity recognition of transferrin (competed for by an excess of unlabelled transferrin) is exerted by parenchymal cells as well as endothelial and Kupffer cells with a 10-fold higher association (expressed per mg of cell protein) to the latter cell types. In all three cell types iron delivery occurs, as concluded from the increase in cellular 59Fe/125I ratio at prolonged circulation times of transferrin. It can be calculated that parenchymal cells are responsible for 50-60% of the interaction of transferrin with the liver, 20-30% is associated with endothelial cells and about 20% with Kupffer cells. For asialotransferrin a higher fraction of the injected dose becomes associated with parenchymal cells as well as with endothelial and Kupffer cells. Competition experiments in vivo with various sugars indicated that the increased interaction of asialotransferrin with parenchymal cells is specifically inhibited by N-acetylgalactosamine whereas mannan specifically inhibits the increased interaction of asialotransferrin with endothelial and Kupffer cells. Recognition of asialotransferrin by galactose receptors from parenchymal cells or mannose receptors from endothelial and Kupffer cells is coupled to active 59Fe delivery to the cells. It is concluded that, as well as parenchymal cells, liver endothelial and Kupffer cells are also quantitatively important intrahepatic sites for transferrin and asialotransferrin metabolism, an interaction exerted by multiple recognition sites on the various cell types. 相似文献

The role of a pertussis toxin sensitive GTP-binding protein in mediating between cholecystokinin receptors and phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate phosphodiesterase as well as in preventing cholecystokinin from increasing cellular cyclic AMP has been investigated using dispersed acini from rabbit pancreas. Pertussis toxin pretreatment (500 ng/ml, 2 h) did not affect cholecystokinin(octapeptide) (CCK-8)-induced increases in cytosolic free Ca2+ as judged from changes in fluorescence obtained from quin2-loaded acini. Although pretreatment with pertussis toxin was also without effect on resting acinar cell cyclic AMP levels, adenylate cyclase activity was increased, since inhibition of cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase activity by isobutylmethylxanthine (IBMX) resulted in an additional increase in cyclic AMP levels in toxin-treated acini, indicating that acinar cell adenylate cyclase activity is under some tonic inhibitory control by the pertussis toxin-sensitive inhibitory GTP-binding protein (Gi) of the adenylate cyclase system. CCK-8 gave an increase in cyclic AMP levels in both control (1.6-fold) and toxin-treated (2.3-fold) acini, leading to cyclic AMP levels in the toxin-treated acini 2-times as high as those in control acini. In the presence of IBMX, the cyclic AMP response to CCK-8 was again markedly enhanced in acini pretreated with the toxin (3.2- vs. 1.8-fold), resulting in cAMP levels in the toxin-treated acini 3.7-times those in the absence of IBMX, 2.5-times those in control acini in the presence of IBMX and 7.0-times those in control acini in the absence of IBMX. Neither the pretreatment with pertussis toxin, nor the presence of IBMX alone, nor the combination had an effect on basal amylase secretion. However, all three treatments potentiated the stimulatory effect of CCK-8 on amylase secretion and the amount of potentiation was proportional to the cyclic AMP levels reached. Our findings suggest that in the intact pancreatic acinar cell Gi inhibition of the catalytic subunit of the adenylate cyclase may largely be responsible for preventing cholecystokinin from increasing cellular cyclic AMP. They moreover show that cyclic AMP is a modulatory agent in rabbit pancreatic enzyme secretion, not able to stimulate secretion itself, but potentiating effects mediated by the phosphatidylinositol-calcium pathway. 相似文献
