Further immunocytochemical analysis of the neuroblasts with SRIF-like immunoreactivity (ir) was carried out on the chick embryo midbrain tegmentum. 5 or 100 microns mesencephalon sections were obtained from 60 White Leghorn chick embryos at stages (E = Embryonic days) ranging from E4 1/2 to E18 and incubated with rabbit polyclonal antibodies against synthetic cyclic Somatostatin-14, according to PAP-DAB technique. In the midbrain tegmentum the ir appeared as from E12. From E12 to E13 1/2-E14 the ir distribution gradually changed. From E14 to E18 numbers and spatial arrangement of the positive neuroblast groups did not show substantial changes; in these respects the ir distributional pattern proved to be similar to the one observed by the Authors in adult animals. From E17 to E18 a decrease in the positive neuroblast density appeared to occur, particularly in a ventrally placed group. These results are consistent with a possible local regulative role of the SRIF.  相似文献

Purpose  

The assessment of biofuels has until now mainly focused on energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions. Only little attention has been given to other impacts, although the general importance of water use for the life cycle assessment (LCA) of agricultural products has been recognized in recent publications. The aim of this work is to assess in detail the water consumption along a biofuel production chain taking into account irrigation efficiencies, levels of water scarcity, and type of feedstock, and to integrate those results in a full LCA. Furthermore, we compare the results for biofuels from various feedstocks and regions with conventional petrol.  相似文献

生态系统服务是近年来生态学研究的热点领域,对关键区域生态系统服务的研究具有重要意义.云南省白马雪山国家级自然保护区地处青藏高原南延部分,拥有独特的地理位置,是生物多样性保护的热点区域.本文对该保护区森林生态系统的生物量与生产力、水源涵养、营养物质循环等3项服务的功能量进行了评估.结果表明:保护区森林总生物量2215.86×104t,生产力171.84×104t·a-1;水源涵养量11964.56×104m3;N、P、K年吸收量分别为26025.94t、2638.57t、12016.85 t.研究表明,保护区森林生态效益显著,对于维持当地以及周边地区的生态安全具有重要意义.  相似文献

A mixture of ryegrass (Lolium italicum A. Braun) and clover (Trifolium alexandrinum L.) was sown in Eboli (Salerno, Southern Italy) in September 2007. Crop growth, leaf and canopy gas exchange and ecophysiological traits were monitored throughout the growth cycle. The gross primary production (GPP) was not affected by air temperature (T air); on the contrary the ecosystem respiration (R eco) decreased as T air decreased while net ecosystem CO2 exchange (NEE) increased. When was normalized with leaf area index (LAI), GPP decreased with T air, a likely response to cold that down-regulated canopy photosynthesis in order to optimize the light use at low winter temperatures. Net photosynthetic rates (P N), the effective quantum yield of PSII (ΦPSII) and photosynthetic pigment content were higher in clover than ryegrass, in relation to the higher leaf N content. The lower ΦPSII in ryegrass was linked to lower photochemical quenching coefficient (qP) values, due to a reduced number of reaction centres, in agreement with the lowest Chl a content. This behaviour can be considered as an adaptive strategy to cold to avoid photooxidative damage at low temperature rather than an impairment of PSII complexes.  相似文献

This work aimed to evaluate if gas exchange and PSII photochemical activity in maize are affected by different irradiance levels during short-term exposure to elevated CO2. For this purpose gas exchange and chlorophyll a fluorescence were measured on maize plants grown at ambient CO2 concentration (control CO2) and exposed for 4 h to short-term treatments at 800 μmol(CO2) mol−1 (high CO2) at a photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) of either 1,000 μmol m−2 s−1 (control light) or 1,900 μmol m−2 s−1 (high light). At control light, high-CO2 leaves showed a significant decrease of net photosynthetic rate (P N) and a rise in the ratio of intercellular to ambient CO2 concentration (C i/C a) and water-use efficiency (WUE) compared to control CO2 leaves. No difference between CO2 concentrations for PSII effective photochemistry (ΦPSII), photochemical quenching (qp) and nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ) was detected. Under high light, high-CO2 leaves did not differ in P N, C i/C a, ΦPSII and NPQ, but showed an increase of WUE. These results suggest that at control light photosynthetic apparatus is negatively affected by high CO2 concentration in terms of carbon gain by limitations in photosynthetic dark reaction rather than in photochemistry. At high light, the elevated CO2 concentration did not promote an increase of photosynthesis and photochemistry but only an improvement of water balance due to increased WUE.  相似文献

The effect of a natural sesquiterpene ketone, 9,10‐dehydrofukinone (DHF), on pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains isolated from chronic infectious processes, was the focus of the present study. Lipophilic DHF produced important antibacterial synergistic effects in association with ciprofloxacin (CPX) against two biofilm‐forming strains of S. aureus HT1 (FIC=0.21) and P. aeruginosa HT5 (FIC=0.05). Hence, this mixture constitutes an excellent strategy to combat these biofilm‐producing bacteria that overexpress drug efflux pumps as a resistance mechanism. Additionally, a substantial rise in beneficial Lactobacillus biofilm biomass was determined as a very significant finding of this association. Particularly, a non‐pathogenic biofilm increment of 119 % was quantified when the mixture was added to a probiotic L. acidophilus ATCC SD‐5212 culture. A surface activity enhanced in 71 % with respect to untreated L. acidophilus culture was also generated by the DHF and CPX association, and therefore, a glycoprotein synthesis induction mediated by the mixture is discussed. The results obtained could help in the development of new selective antibiotics. From an ecological standpoint, the present study strongly suggests that DHF is a polyfunctional organic molecule produced with a high yield in Senecio punae that exerts a positive impact on a non‐pathogenic plant bacterium L. plantarum CE105.  相似文献

The effect of water shortage on growth and gas exchange of maize grown on sandy soil (SS) and clay soil was studied. The lower soil water content in the SS during vegetative growth stages did not affect plant height, above-ground biomass, and leaf area index (LAI). LAI reduction was observed on the SS during the reproductive stage due to early leaf senescence. Canopy and leaf gas exchanges, measured by eddy correlation technique and by a portable photosynthetic system, respectively, were affected by water stress and a greater reduction in net photosynthetic rate (A N) and stomatal conductance (g s) was observed on SS. Chlorophyll and carotenoids content was not affected by water shortage in either condition. Results support two main conclusions: (1) leaf photosynthetic capacity was unaffected by water stress, and (2) maize effectively endured water shortage during the vegetative growth stage.  相似文献

Abstract 1. The biology of most invasive species in their native geographical areas remains largely unknown. Such studies are, however, crucial in shedding light on the ecological and evolutionary processes underlying biological invasions. 2. The present study focuses on the little fire ant Wasmannia auropunctata, a species native to Central and South America that has been widely introduced and which has become invasive throughout the tropics. We characterise and compare several ecological traits of native populations in French Guiana with those in one of its introduced ranges, New Caledonia. 3. We found ecologically heterogeneous populations of W. auropunctata coexisting in the species’ native geographical area. First, we found populations restricted to naturally perturbed areas (particularly floodplains) within the primary forest, and absent from the surrounding forest areas. These populations were characterised by low nest and worker densities. Second, we found dominant populations in recent anthropogenic areas (e.g. secondary forest or forest edge along road) characterised by high nest and worker densities, and associated with low ant species richness. The local dominance of W. auropunctata in such areas can be due to the displacement of other species (cause) or the filling‐up of empty habitats unsuitable to other ants (effect). With respect to their demographic features and ant species richness, the populations of native anthropogenic habitats were to a large extent similar to the invasive populations introduced into remote areas. 4. The results point to the need for greater research efforts to better understand the ecological and demographic features of invasive species within their native ranges.  相似文献

Background and Objective

High concentrations of air pollutants have been linked to increased incidence of stroke in North America and Europe but not yet assessed in mainland China. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association between stroke hospitalization and short-term elevation of air pollutants in Wuhan, China.

Methods

Daily mean NO2, SO2 and PM10 levels, temperature and humidity were obtained from 2006 through 2008. Data on stroke hospitalizations (ICD 10: I60–I69) at four hospitals in Wuhan were obtained for the same period. A time-stratified case-crossover design was performed by season (April-September and October-March) to assess effects of pollutants on stroke hospital admissions.

Results

Pollution levels were higher in October-March with averages of 136.1 µg/m3 for PM10, 63.6 µg/m3 for NO2 and 71.0 µg/m3 for SO2 than in April-September when averages were 102.0 µg/m3, 41.7 µg/m3 and 41.7 µg/m3, respectively (p<.001). During the cold season, every 10 µg/m3 increase in NO2 was associated with a 2.9% (95%C.I. 1.2%–4.6%) increase in stroke admissions on the same day. Every 10 ug/m3 increase in PM10 daily concentration was significantly associated with an approximate 1% (95% C.I. 0.1%–1.4%) increase in stroke hospitalization. A two-pollutant model indicated that NO2 was associated with stroke admissions when controlling for PM10. During the warm season, no significant associations were noted for any of the pollutants.

Conclusions

Exposure to NO2 is significantly associated with stroke hospitalizations during the cold season in Wuhan, China when pollution levels are 50% greater than in the warm season. Larger and multi-center studies in Chinese cities are warranted to validate our findings.  相似文献
