Effects of nitroxyl radicals on pathogenic properties of herpesvirus (the spin-label technique in the study of virus-macrophage interactions)]

The effect of various concentrations of both methyl ether of 5-doxyl-stearic acid (M5DS) and 4-maleimido-TEMPO (4MT) on the pathogenicity of herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) was studied. It is known that the reagents modify the lipid matrix and the proteins of virion envelope. The decrease of the HSV-1 pathogenicity was shown when using the concentration of reagents more 5 x 10(-5) M. HSV-1 having high pathogenicity and cytotoxicity was obtained when the concentrations of the reagents were less 5 x 10(-5) M.     

Destructive and reparative processes in the liver in acute experimental peritonitis

Dynamics and character of interrelations of destructive and reparative processes in the liver in different conditions of acute experimental peritonitis (AEP), using preparations, inhibiting or stimulating these reactions in the experiment with 135 white rats have been studied. It was established the dependence of the level of destruction and intensity of hepatic reparative regeneration on the gravity of peritoneum affection, the level of toxicity and the state of the body immunologic reactivity. The organ reparation in normal AEP in the first two days is carried out mainly by intercellular hyperplasia of hepatocyte ultrastructures. Karyokinetic cellular activity is increasing from the 3rd day and reacting its peak on the 4-5 day of the experiment. The course of peritonitis while introducing azathioprine is accompanied by prevailing destructive-purulent changes in the liver. On the contrary, levamisole administration in experimental animals causes an increase in lymphoid-cellular infiltration of stromal and parenchymatous cells with earlier reparation of necrotic foci.

Methodological approach to calculating average growth (increment) rates in epidemiological analysis

In an analysis of dynamic rows with a view to the calculation of the rate of growth (increase) with the use of the geometric mean, it is expedient to utilize not the actual data, but the characteristics of the straight line aligned by the least-square method. The calculation of the average rate of growth (increase) by the actual data is recommended only in case of the monotonous change of the measured characteristic.     

Effect of testosterone on the rate of total protein synthesis in the reproductive tract of guinea pig embryos in vitro

The influence of testosterone on the rate of total protein synthesis in the reproductive tract tissues and muscles was studied in the guinea pig male embryos from 26 days of development until birth. The rate of protein synthesis was estimated by the intensity of 3H-leucine incorporation per 1 mg protein for 30 min. Testosterone increased the rate of protein synthesis at all studies stages. A higher rate of protein synthesis was revealed at the stages of active morphogenesis and growth of rudiments and organs of genital system and correlated with their ability of 3H-testosterone uptake (Ivanova, 1982).
