The histological development of fertilized ovules during fruit-set and development in pea ( Pisum sativum L. cv. Alaska) has been investigated. Killing the ovules on day 0 (anthesis) or day 1 prevented fruit-set and resulted in ovary degeneration. When the ovules were destroyed at later stages the ovaries developed, though the rate of growth of the pod was reduced significantly. Pollination in pea occurs normally the day before anthesis, and fertilization of the egg cell 32 to 48 h later. The first divisions of the zygote and endosperm nuclei started simultaneously (ca 48 h after pollination) but the endosperm developed more rapidly than the embryo; the embryo sac cavity was lined with free endosperm nuclei at the time of beginning suspensor elongation. Extracts of endosperm and ovule coats from ovules at day 7 after anthesis showed fruit-set activity in pea, the latter material having about 3 times more activity than the former per ovule basis. These results indicate that fertilization of the ovule is necessary for fruit-set in pea, and that compounds which induce fruit-set are probably synthesized in the ovules following fertilization.  相似文献

Structural changes of tissues in unpollinated ovaries of Pisum sativum L. cv. Alaska after treatment with different plant growth substances (gibberellic acid, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, and 6-benzyladenine) or decapitation of the plant were studied. All the treatments resulted in the prevention of cellular disorganization associated with ovary senescence. They effected the enlargement of mesocarp cells and the differentiation of endocarp cells in very similar patterns, suggesting a similar induction of the structural processes involved in fruit development. Ultrastructural changes in mesocarp cells after treatment with gibberellic acid showed that rapid enlargement of mesocarp cells was sustained mainly by a reorganization of the membrane systems directed to the sysnthesis of primary cell wall. Early changes in the subcellular components in mesocarp cells were observed as the first symptoms in ovary senescence.  相似文献

Saissetia oleae (Olivier) (Hemiptera: Coccidae) populations were studied and compared in citrus (Citrus spp.) and olive (Olea europaea L.) groves to determine the number of generations, crawler emergence periods and changes in population density during the year. Ten citrus and four olive groves were sampled regularly between March 2003 and December 2005 in eastern Spain, covering an area of 10,000 km2. Each sample consisted of 16 branches and 64 leaves. Saissetia oleae populations presented a similar trend in both crops during the three years of study. Populations peaked in July, when crawlers emerged after the egg-laying period, and decreased during several months due to mortality of first instars in summer. A second crawler emergence period, with lower numbers and more variability from year to year, occurred between October and March. Populations did not increase during this period, probably because most eggs and crawlers perished during the winter and also because females that gave rise to this fall-winter generation were half as big and fecund as spring females. No differences were found between the size of mature females that had developed on citrus and on olives during the spring. Considering this population pattern, the best seasonal period to apply pesticides to control S. oleae would be at the end of July, when populations are synchronous, all crawlers have already emerged, and first instars predominate.  相似文献

Several studies have shown that humans track a moving visual target with their eyes better if the movement of this target is directly controlled by the observer's hand. The improvement in performance has been attributed to coordination control between the arm motor system and the smooth pursuit (SP) system. In such a task, the SP system shows characteristics that differ from those observed during eye-alone tracking: latency (between the target-arm and the eye motion onsets) is shorter, maximum SP velocity is higher and the maximum target motion frequency at which the SP can function effectively is also higher. The aim of this article is to qualitatively evaluate the behavior of a dynamical model simulating the oculomotor system and the arm motor system when both are involved in tracking visual targets. The evaluation is essentially based on a comparison of the behavior of the model with the behavior of human subjects tracking visual targets under different conditions. The model has been introduced and quantitatively evaluated in a companion paper. The model is based on an exchange of internal information between the two sensorimotor systems, mediated by sensory signals (vision, arm muscle proprioception) and motor signals (arm motor command copy). The exchange is achieved by a specialized structure of the central nervous system, previously identified as a part of the cerebellum. Computer simulation of the model yielded results that fit the behavior of human subjects observed during previously reported experiments, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The parallelism between physiology and human behavior on the one hand, and structure and simulation of the model on the other hand, is discussed. Enzymatically isolated vein networks from mature pea (Pisum sativum L. cv Alaska) leaves were employed to investigate the properties of sucrose loading and the effect of phytohormones and cell turgor on this process. The sucrose uptake showed two components: a saturable and a first-order kinetics system. The high affinity system (Km, 3.3 millimolar) was located at the plasmalemma (p-chloromercuriphenylsulfonic acid and orthovanadate sensitivity). Further characterization of this system, including pH dependence and effects of energy metabolism inhibitors, supported the H+-sugar symport concept for sucrose loading. Within a physiological range (0.1-100 micromolar) and after 90 min, abscisic acid (ABA) inhibited and gibberellic acid (GA3) promoted 1 millimolar sucrose uptake. These responses were partially (ABA) or totally (GA3) turgor-dependent. In experiments of combined hormonal treatments, ABA counteracted the GA3 positive effects on sucrose uptake. The abolishment of these responses by p-chloromercuriphenylsulfonic acid and experiments on proton flux suggest that both factors (cell turgor and hormones) are modulating the H+ ATPase plasmalemma activity. The results are discussed in terms of their physiological relevance.  相似文献

Mineralized collagen fibrils have been usually analyzed like a two-phase composite material where crystals are considered as platelets that constitute the reinforcement phase. Different models have been used to describe the elastic behavior of the material. In this work, it is shown that when Halpin–Tsai equations are applied to estimate elastic constants from typical constituent properties, not all crystal dimensions yield a model that satisfy thermodynamic restrictions. We provide the ranges of platelet dimensions that lead to positive definite stiffness matrices. On the other hand, a finite element model of a mineralized collagen fibril unit cell under periodic boundary conditions is analyzed. By applying six canonical load cases, homogenized stiffness matrices are numerically calculated. Results show a monoclinic behavior of the mineralized collagen fibril. In addition, a 5-layer lamellar structure is also considered where crystals rotate in adjacent layers of a lamella. The stiffness matrix of each layer is calculated applying Lekhnitskii transformations, and a new finite element model under periodic boundary conditions is analyzed to calculate the homogenized 3D anisotropic stiffness matrix of a unit cell of lamellar bone. Results are compared with the rule-of-mixtures showing in general good agreement.  相似文献

Rind structure and surface wax morphology of 'Fortune' mandarinsaffected by pre-harvest peel pitting were examined as relatedto the severity of this disorder. In fruits with slight symptomsof pitting (< 10% surface area pitted) a discrete numberof epidermal cells were injured with signs of cellular breakdown.In fruits with moderate symptoms of pitting (10-50% surfacearea pitted) the injured zones also involved hypodermal cells.The surface of rind had an undulating appearance in fruits withsevere symptoms of pitting (> 50% surface area pitted). Thedepressed areas in these fruits were devoid of crystalline waxstructures and had a rough morphology. Broad regions of rindhad crushed epidermal and hypodermal cells with infolded walls.These cells were either empty or filled with reduced cytoplasmamounts located in central positions of the cell. No signs ofdisruption in the cuticle were observed. Under field conditions,pitting occurrence coincided with higher permeability valuesof isolated cuticles. Furthermore, length of cold treatmentsrequired to show post-harvest pitting symptoms was shorter infruits sampled at this stage than in those collected earlieror later. Our results indicate that the low temperatures inducethe breakdown of the more external cellular strata of the rind.Thus, the physiological function of cuticle is highly impairedwhich, in turn, increases water permeability considerably.Copyright1994, 1999 Academic Press Chilling injury, Citrus, cold storage, pre-harvest pitting  相似文献

The appearance of endoproteolytic activities related to the senescence of unpollinated pea ( Pisum sativum L. cv. Alaska) ovaries, or with fruit development induced by gibberellic acid (GA3), was examined simultaneously by biochemical and histochemical techniques using gelatin as substrate. Biochemical detection was carried out by gelatin-containing sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Histochemical detection was performed using a gelatin film technique. No differences in endopeptidase activity were found in extracts from non-treated or developing ovaries during the two first days post-anthesis. After day 3 non-treated ovaries showed a marked increase in activity as well as two new bands with proteolytic activity, associated with the beginning of the senescence. At the same time a new activity was also located at the endocarp. In developing ovaries activity was only observed around vascular cells of the mesocarp at the end of the period studied (4–5 days post-anthesis). Activity detected in the ovules was essentially the same in both GA3-treated and non-treated ovaries.  相似文献

DLBCL is an aggressive lymphoma treated with R-CHOP. Recently, attempts have been made to improve the outcome by increasing both dose-density and intensity but there have been no benefits in terms of survival. When treating malignancies RDI is important to consider but there is little published information on DLBCL. The purpose of this study was to analyze the differential prognostic impact of RDI in two cohorts of DLBCL patients treated with R-CHOP21 or R-CHOP14. From January 2001 to August 2013 we included DLBCL patients homogenously treated with R-CHOP21 or R-CHOP14, with or without radiotherapy, at University Hospital Son Espases, Hospital Son Llatzer of Palma and Hospital del Mar of Barcelona (N = 157). In order to avoid selection bias the patients were retrospectively identified from the Pathology Department and Pharmacy registries. Median follow-up was 68 months. There was no difference in the response or survival between the two cohorts. In the R-CHOP21 group, both a reduction higher than 15% in RDI (RR 7.41) and R-IPI (RR 2.99) were independently associated with OS. However, a reduction higher than 15% in RDI (RR 4.41) was only noted for PFS. In the R-CHOP14 group, NCCN-IPI (RR 7.09) and B-symptoms (RR 5.37) for OS; AA stage III-IV (RR 6.26) and bulky disease (RR 4.05) for PFS. There was a trend towards a higher rate of RDI reduction observed in the R-CHOP14 group but it only made an impact in the R-CHOP21 group. We conclude that R-CHOP21 and R-CHOP14 are equivalent regimens in terms of response and survival, but only if RDI reductions are avoided. For patients receiving R-CHOP21 we recommend using clinical and support measures in order to avoid RDI reductions.  相似文献

Ultrastructural changes of endocarp cells of unpollinated pea ( Pisum sativum L. cv. Alaska) ovaries treated and non-treated with gibberellic acid (GA3) were studied. Following treatment with GA3, the differentiation of cells of the middle zone of the endocarp into sclerenchyma occurred in 3 phases: initial, elongation and maturation. In the initial phase a proliferation of endocarp cells was produced in both GA3treated and non-treated ovaries. Changes in the cell membrane system (Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum, plasmalemma) and the formation of primary and secondary cell wall were observed in the 2nd and 3rd phases of treated ovaries. In nontreated ovaries senescence followed the initial phase. These results indicate that GA3 induced the processes involved in the elongation and maturation phases.  相似文献
