Activity patterns of the suprahyoid muscles were examined using a new analytical technique. The suprahyoid activities were recorded during swallowing of tasteless foods and foods with taste qualities (sweet, salty, sour, bitter and umami). The technique involved: (1) division of cumulative integrated suprahyoid activities from each swallow into 10 equal sections and (2) assignment of individually sectioned activities to a standardized timescale as TP (from T10To T100; relative time for P% of the cumulative electromyogram) to enable comparison of data from different trials. Three significant differences were found in T p between the following foods: tasteless and sour, tasteless and bitter, and sour and umami. However, the differences were not repeatedly confirmed. These results suggest that gustatory signals from food tastes affect differentially the activity patterns of the suprahyoid muscles during pharyngeal swallowing, although the effect is not permanent. This method may be used to measure taste impressions in infants and in certain disabled subjects.  相似文献

In the preceding study, the present authors differentiated the activity patterns of the suprahyoid (SH) muscles during pharyngeal swallowing of tasty and tasteless foods by using “TP” values that assigned activity of electromyograms (EMG) to a standardized time scale. In the present study, we calculated not only the TP values but also the InP values (by subtracting the preceding TP‐10 values from TP) to analyze activity patterns of the SH EMG during pharyngeal swallowing of foods dissolved in unitary (monosodium glutamate [MSG] and disodium inosine‐5′‐monophosphate [IMP]) and binary (MSG + IMP) “umami‐” tasting solutions of low and high concentration. We found that SH activity patterns differed slightly between low and high concentration of unitary and binary umami‐tasting foods, but that SH activity patterns measured while swallowing umami‐tasting foods did not differ from those measured while swallowing sweet‐ or salty‐tasting foods, or tasteless food.  相似文献

The cerebral cortex of reeler -normal chimera embryos was studied by hematoxylin-eosin staining and fractographic scanning electron microscopy in comparison with the cortices of normal and reeler mutant mice. The cerebral cortex of normal mice had a plexiform layer, which was composed of a fine meshwork of matrix cell processes. Spindle shaped neuroblasts formed a radial lining columnar structure, which was formed by attachment of migrating neuroblasts to the radial bundles. The cerebral cortex of reeler mutants did not show a plexiform layer and the cells were round with no radially columnar structures, and no radial bundles. In reeler -normal chimera embryos, the thickness of the plexiform layer varied in different parts of the cerebral cortex. In parts where the plexiform layer was present, neuroblasts were spindle-shaped and had a radially oriented columnar structure (normal type). But where the plexiform layer was absent, the neuroblasts were round with a radial architecture ( reeler type). Intermediates between the reeler and control types were also observed. Since mosaic expression of the two phenotypes, was observed in chimeras, the reeler abnormality is apparently not caused by humoral factors. The possible mechanism of cell migration is discussed.  相似文献

The cytokinin producing capacity of asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.) shoot apex was examined by means of shoot apex culture in vitro, where adventitious roots were never formed. The cultured shoot apices continued to diffuse a small but constant amount of cytokinin into the medium throughout five passages of subculture. The cytokinin content in the apices at the end of the subculture was not different from that at the beginning of the subculture. These results indicate a production of cytokinin by the apices. However, the finding is not in conflict with the hypothesis that the root tip is the major source of cytokinin supply, because the root tip of asparagus produced more cytokinin than the shoot apex and the decline of shoot growth observed during the subculture was partially restored by an application of zeatin into the medium.  相似文献

Archegonial differentiation in light-grown gametophytes of Lygodium japonicum was partially inhibited by exogenously applied gibberellin A3 (GA3) at a concentration of 10?6M, and fully prevented at 10?5M. The inhibitory effect was nullified by transferring the GA3-treated samples onto fresh media omitting GA3, so that the archegonial formation became discernible 6 days after the transplantation. The application of 10?4M GA3 to younger gametophytes brought about a complete inhibition of archegonial differentiation, whereas the same concentration applied to older gametophytes did not influence the process at all, indicating the timing of archegonial differentiation during the ontogeny. Activity spectrum of authentic gibberellins on the basis of concentrations inducing 50% inhibition of archegonial formation was obtained as follows: GA4= GA9 > GA7 > GA3 > GA1= GA5= GA8.  相似文献

Cytokinins were released into the medium by cultures of excised tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) root tips. A large portion was directly released from the proximal cut-end of the roots. The most active substance was found to co-chromatograph with zeatin riboside in both paper and Sephadex column chromatographies. The cytokinin activity after 7 days of growth was found about eight times higher in the medium as compared with that in the root tissues. When freshly excised root tips were subcultured throughout eight passages, the accumulation of cytokinin in the medium of each passage was approximately the same. These results show that the root tip is a main site of cytokinin synthesis.  相似文献
