The neutrophil-stimulating properties of 38 S. aureus strains and 32 S. epidermidis strains were studied in the reaction of luminol-mediated chemiluminescence. All S. aureus strains and 29 S. epidermidis strains were found to possess neutrophil-stimulating activity, the mean activity index for S. aureus being significantly higher. The stimulating activity of the strains varied within a wide range (the variation coefficient was 120.0 +/- 21.9%) and did not correlate with the content of protein A in bacterial cells and the degree of their hydrophoby. The opsonization of staphylococci with normal human serum enhanced the neutrophil reaction 1.5- to 100-fold and simultaneously leveled out the chemiluminescence indices in experiments with different strains (the variation coefficient was 8.0 +/- 1.5%). The nature of the neutrophil-stimulating effect of staphylococci and its relationship to the exploratory reactions of phagocytes are discussed. 相似文献

Three types of Golgi-stained neurons were discovered in brain stem reticular nuclei of 30-day-old kittens: sparsely branching reticular neurons, those with densely branching dendritic trees, and giant multipolar neurons (Leontovich's classification). Adopting computerized morphometric techniques enabled 23 different parameters to be measured in cells of these types. The measurements taken from the neuronal groups investigated revealed statistically significant differences between them for most parameters. It was concluded from this that each of the neuronal types distinguished has its own morphological identity (or stability). In order to increase the yield of biotin produced by the culture Sporobolomyces pararoseus, the medium containing sucrose, asparagine, MgSO4 (NH4)2SO4, KH2PO4, vitamin complex and trace elements was optimized. With the aid of a fractional factor experiment (2(5-1)) and a complete factor experiment (2(4)), the proportion of constituents was chosen in such a way as to double biotin yield, i.e. to increase it to 55.25 micrograms/l. An enrichment of the medium with yeast autolysate, casein hydrolysate and peptone in the presence of adenine increased biotin yield to 105.7 micrograms/l and cell productivity from 6.1 to 8.0 micrograms/l dry biomass. 相似文献

Directed activation of a system of positive emotional reinforcement induces regulatory effect on limbic-neocortical mechanisms of the sleep-waking cycle organization in rats after chronic alcoholization carried out in periods of decreased and increased circadian rhythms of emotional activity. In animals with high level of positive emotional drive after the alcoholization self-stimulation of the lateral hypothalamus suppresses hypersynchronous paroxysmal activity in waking EEG, decreases the content of waking in the sleep-waking cycle, restores the paradoxical phase of sleep. The word deals with the results obtained in the study of the reactogenicity and immunological activity of concentrated and inactivated tissue-culture tick-borne encephalitis vaccine, manufactured by the Chumakov Institute of Poliomyelitis and Viral Encephalitides, in the immunization of children and adolescents. The vaccine proved to be moderately reactogenic and exhibited pronounced immunological activity. In 91.5% of the immunized children the fourfold increase of the antibody level was observed. Mismatch uracil glycosylase from Escherichia coli: a general mismatch or a specific DNA glycosylase?

The gene for the mismatch-specific uracil glycosylase (MUG) was identified in the Escherichia coli genome as a sequence homolog of the mammalian thymine DNA glycosylase, with activity against uracil in U.G mismatches. Subsequently, 3,N4-ethenocytosine (epsilonC), thymine, 5-hydroxymethyluracil, and 8-(hydroxymethyl)-3,N4-ethenocytosine have been proposed as possible substrates for this enzyme. The evaluation of various DNA adducts as substrates is complicated by the biphasic nature of the kinetics of this enzyme. Our results demonstrate that product release by the enzyme is very slow and hence comparing the "steady-state" parameters of the enzyme for different substrates is of limited use. Consequently, the ability of the enzyme to excise a variety of damage products of purines and pyrimidines was studied under single turnover conditions. Although the enzyme excised both epsilonC and U from DNA, the former adduct was significantly better as a substrate in terms of binding and hydrolysis. Some products of oxidative and alkylation damage are also moderately good substrates for the enzyme, but thymine is a poor substrate. This comparison of different substrates under single turnover conditions provides a rational basis for comparing substrates of MUG and we relate these conclusions to the known crystal structures of the enzyme and its catalytic mechanism. 相似文献
