This paper presents the Bayes estimators of the Poisson distribution function based on complete and truncated data under a natural conjugate prior. Laplace transform of the incomplete gamma function and the Gauss hypergeometric function have been employed in order to overcome the intractability of the integrals. Numerical examples from biosciences are given to illustrate the results. A Monte Carlo study has been carried out to compare Bayes estimators under complete data with the corresponding maximum liklihood estimators.  相似文献

Antifungal activity guided fractionation of the n-butanol extract from the methanol extract of the leaves of Artocarpus nobilis furnished 2',4',4-trihydroxy-3'-geranylchalcone (1), 2 ',4',4-trihydroxy-3'-[6-hydroxy-3,7-dimethyl-2(E),7-octadienyl]chalcone (2), 2',4',4-trihydroxy-3'-[2-hydroxy-7-methyl-3-methylene-6-octaenyl]chalcone (3), 2',3,4,4'-tetrahydroxy-3'-geranylchalcone (4), 2',3,4,4'-tetrahydroxy-3'-[6-hydroxy-3,7-dimethyl-2(E),7-octadienyl]chalcone (5). The chalcones 3 and 5 are new natural products whereas 1 and 2 are reported first time from the family Moraceae. All these compounds showed good fungicidal activity against Cladosporium cladosporioides and high radical scavenging activity towards the 2,2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical in TLC bio-autography method.  相似文献

In this paper we derive explicit expressions for the elements of the exact Fisher information matrix of the Dirichlet-multinomial distribution. We show that exact calculation is based on the beta-binomial probability function rather than that of the Dirichlet-multinomial and this makes the exact calculation quite easy. The exact results are expected to be useful for the calculation of standard errors of the maximum likelihood estimates of the beta-binomial parameters and those of the Dirichlet-multinomial parameters for data that arise in practice in toxicology and other similar fields. Standard errors of the maximum likelihood estimates of the beta-binomial parameters and those of the Dirichlet-multinomial parameters, based on the exact and the asymptotic Fisher information matrix based on the Dirichlet distribution, are obtained for a set of data from Haseman and Soares (1976), a dataset from Mosimann (1962) and a more recent dataset from Chen, Kodell, Howe and Gaylor (1991). There is substantial difference between the standard errors of the estimates based on the exact Fisher information matrix and those based on the asymptotic Fisher information matrix.  相似文献

Cell mediated immune responses (CMIR) to Rhinosporidium seeberi in human patients with rhinosporidiosis have been studied. With immuno-histochemistry, the cell infiltration patterns in rhinosporidial tissues from 7 patients were similar. The mixed cell infiltrate consisted of many plasma cells, fewer CD68+ macrophages,a population of CD3+ T lymphocytes, and CD56/57+ NK lymphocytes which were positive for CD3 as well. CD4+ T helper cells were scarce. CD8+suppressor/cytotoxic-cytolytic cells were numerous. Most of the CD8+ cells were TIA-l+ and therefore of the cytotoxic subtype. CD8+ T cells were not sub-typed according to their cytokine profile; 1L2, IFN-γ (Tcl); IL4, ILS (Tc2).In lympho-proliferative response (LPR) assays in vitro, lymphocytes from rhinosporidial patients showed stimulatory responses to Con A but lymphocytes from some patients showed significantly diminished responses to rhinosporidial extracts as compared with unstimulated cells or cells stimulated by Con A, indicating suppressor immune responses in rhinosporidiosis. The overall stimulatory responses with Con A suggested that the rhinosporidial lymphocytes were not non-specifically anergic although comparisons of depressed LPR of rhinosporidial lymphocytes from individual patients, to rhinosporidial antigen with those to Con A, did not reveal a clear indication as to whether the depression was antigen specific or non-specific. The intensity of depression of the LPR in rhinosporidial patients bore no relation to the site, duration, or the number of lesions or whether the disease was localized or disseminated. Rhinosporidial extracts showed stimulatory activity on normal control lymphocytes, perhaps indicating mitogenic activity. These results indicate that CMIR develops in human rhinosporidiosis, while suppressed responses are also induced. This study focused on the potential of specific leaf area, stomatal density and stomatal pore surface as easy-to-measure plant parameters in low cost biomonitoring of urban habitat quality with a high spatial resolution. The study area (81.5 km2) was the city of Gent, Belgium. In the study area 148 sampling locations were identified within 4 land use classes. Specific leaf area, stomatal density, stomatal pore surface, minimal stomatal resistance, chlorophyll a and b, C and N content, δ13C and δ15N in the leaf samples of a common herbaceous plant Taraxacum officinalis were measured. The stomatal pore surface and minimal stomatal resistance of T. officinalis varied significantly between land use classes. In the harbor and industry land use class and the urban land use class a 27% and 21% lower mean stomatal pore surface at the abaxial leaf surface, and a 29% and 27% lower mean stomatal pore surface at the adaxial leaf surface was observed compared to that in the pasture land use class. The minimal stomatal resistance at the abaxial leaf surface was significantly higher in the urban land use class and harbor and industry land use class by 28% and 29%, respectively compared to that in the pasture land use class. In addition, urbanized and industrial land use classes as the harbour and industry and the urban land use classes showed significantly lower δ13C values compared to pasture land use class. The specific leaf area, stomatal parameters and δ13C data were geostatistically analyzed to understand their spatial variation. The spatial distributions of stomatal pore surface and minimal stomatal resistance varied considerably across the study area, indicating a different habitat quality from the harbour area in the north, over the city centre in the middle and the industrial areas in the south, compared to off city areas. Spatial patterns of δ13C showed depleted δ13C levels in city areas indicating the diluted δ13C in the urban atmosphere by fuel combustion. We concluded that stomatal characteristics seem to be the most promising parameter for estimating urban habitat quality.  相似文献

Background and Aims

A substantial amount of photosynthesized plant-C is allocated belowground in grassland ecosystems where it influences the structure and function of the soil microbial community with potential implications for C cycling and storage. We applied stable isotope probing of microbial PLFAs and repeated soil sampling in a grassland over a period of 1 year to assess the role of microbial communities in the cycling of rhizodeposit-C.

Methods

Pulse-labeling with 13CO2 was performed in a grassland site near Gent (Belgium). Soil samples were taken 24 h, 1 week, 1 month, 4 months, 9 months and 1 year following labeling and analyzed for 13C in soil, roots and microbial PLFAs.

Results

C enrichment of PLFAs occurred rapidly (within 24 h) but temporally varied across microbial groups. PLFAs indicative for fungi and gram-negative bacteria showed a faster 13C uptake compared to gram-positive bacteria and actinomycetes. However, the relative 13C concentrations of the latter communities increased after 1 week, while those of fungi decreased and those of gram-negative bacteria remained constant. PLFA 13C mean residence times were much shorter for fungi compared to bacteria and actinomycetes.

Conclusions

Our results indicate temporally varying rhizodeposit-C uptake by different microbial groups, and faster turnover rates of mycorrhizal versus saprotrophic fungi and fungi versus bacteria. Fungi appeared to play a major role in the initial processing and possible rapid channeling of rhizodeposit-C into the soil microbial community. Actinomycetes and gram-positive bacteria appeared to have a delayed utilization of rhizodeposit-C or to prefer other C sources upon rhizodeposition.  相似文献

Far from their native ranges in the Americas, two invasive species come into contact in Australian waterbodies. Cane toads (Rhinella marina) fatally poison many anurophagous predators, whereas eastern mosquito fish (Gambusia holbrooki) voraciously consume anuran larvae. As cane toads spread south along Australia’s east coast, they are colonizing areas where mosquito fish are abundant. What happens when these two American invaders encounter each other in Australia? We tested the responses to toad tadpoles of mosquito fish from populations that were sympatric versus allopatric with cane toads. Toad-sympatric fish generally ignored toad tadpoles. Toad-allopatric fish initially consumed a few tadpoles, but rapidly developed an aversion to these toxic prey items. The laboratory-reared progeny of toad-allopatric fishes were more likely to approach toad tadpoles than were the offspring of toad-sympatric fishes, but the two groups learned toad-avoidance at similar rates. Thus, mosquito fish show an innate aversion to cane toad tadpoles (perhaps reflecting coevolution with North American bufonid taxa), as well as an ability to rapidly learn taste-aversion. Our comparisons among populations suggest that several decades of toad-free existence in Australia caused a decline in the fishes’ innate (heritable) aversion to toads, but did not affect the fishes’ capacity to learn toad-avoidance after an initial exposure. Any impact of mosquito fish on cane toads thus is likely to be transitory. The rapid (<100-year) time frame of these shifts (the initial weakening of the fishes’ response during toad-allopatry, and its recovery after secondary contact) emphasizes the dynamic nature of faunal responses during biological invasions, and the interplay between adaptation and phenotypic plasticity.  相似文献

The distributional limits of many ectothermic species are set by thermal tolerances of early‐developmental stages in the life history; embryos and larvae often are less able to buffer environmental variation than are conspecific adults. In pond‐breeding amphibians, for example, cold water may constrain viability of eggs and larvae, even if adults can find suitable thermal conditions in terrestrial niches. Invasive species provide robust model systems for exploring these questions, because we can quantify thermal challenges at the expanding range edge (from field surveys) and larval responses to thermal conditions (in the laboratory). Our studies on invasive cane toads (Rhinella marina) at the southern (cool‐climate) edge of their expanding range in Australia show that available ponds often average around 20°C during the breeding period, 10°C lower than in many areas of the toads’ native range, or in the Australian tropics. Our laboratory experiments showed that cane toad eggs and larvae cannot develop successfully at 16°C, but hatching success and larval survival rates were higher at 20°C than in warmer conditions. Lower temperatures slowed growth rates, increasing the duration of tadpole life, but also increased metamorph body mass. Water temperature also influenced metamorph body shape (high temperatures reduced relative limb length, head width, and body mass) and locomotor performance (increased speed from intermediate temperatures, longer hops from high temperatures). In combination with previous studies, our data suggest that lower water temperatures may enhance rather than reduce recruitment of cane toads, at least in areas where pond temperatures reach or exceed 20°C. That condition is fulfilled over a wide area of southern Australia, suggesting that the continuing expansion of this invasive species is unlikely to be curtailed by the impacts of relatively low water temperatures on the viability of early life‐history stages.  相似文献
