Rotational cytoplasmic streaming in leaves of Egeria densa wasinduced by light as well as by L-histidine (L-His). During bothtreatement with light and with L-His chloroplasts on the periclinalface were dislodged and moved to the anticlinal face where rotationalcytoplasmic streaming occurred. The effective concentrationof L-His was about 0.01 mM and the effect was almost saturatedat 0.1 mM. A derivative of L-His, 3-methyl-L-histidine, wasslightly less effective than L-His. By contrast, 1-methyl-L-histidinewas almost ineffective for induction of streaming, not onlyin Egeria but also in Vallisneria. Our resutlts are in markedcontrast to Fitting's result (1936) that 1-M-L-His is more effectivethan L-His. In Egeria, 1-methyl-L-His counteracted the stimulativeeffect of L-His. 1-Methyl-L-His penetrated into leaf cells ofEgeria to the same extent as 3-methyl-L-His and to a greaterextent than L-His. This observation excludes the possibilitythat the impermeability of leaves to 1-M-L-His might be responsiblefor its ineffectiveness. 1-M-L-His did not interfere with photodinesis.Differences in the mechanism of induction of rotational streamingby L-His and by light are discussed.

Alopecia areata (AA) is an organ-specific and cell-mediated autoimmune disease involving hair loss, but its pathogenesis remains poorly understood. Many autoimmune diseases are genetically associated with alleles of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes within the major histocompatibility complex. Associations between AA and HLA genes were previously observed in some different ethnic groups. However, the results were inconsistent, and a primary susceptibility HLA gene and/or region has not yet been assigned for AA. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether an allele of the HLA-C locus, HLA-C*07:04, which was strongly associated with AA in Chinese Hans, could be replicated in the Japanese population. The HLA-C locus was genotyped by the SSO method using 156 AA patients and 560 healthy controls. As a consequence, among the 17 alleles detected, only two alleles, C*04:01 (OR?=?2.25, CI 95 %?=?1.35–3.75, P?=?1.84E-03) and C*15:02 (OR?=?2.52, CI 95 %?=?1.37–4.64, P?=?2.90E-03), were significantly associated with AA after Bonferroni correction. Further, the stratification analysis suggested that C*04:01, C*07:02, and C*15:02 represented different AA genetic risk factors in each sub-phenotype. 相似文献

A novel dioxygenase, lignostilbene-a,β-dioxygenase (LSD), which catalyzes cleavage of the interphenyl double bond of lignin-derived stilbenes, was isolated. Four isozymes of LSD were separated from cell-free extracts of Pseudomonas sp. TMY1009 by ion-exchange chromatography on a DEAE- Toyopearl column. The major isozyme, LSD-I, was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity and characterized.LSD-I cleaved the interphenyl double bond of l,2-bis(4′-hydroxy-3′-methoxyphenyl)ethylene with the optimum pH at 8.5. The Km of LSD-I was 11 μm for the stilbene and 110/iM for oxygen. The molecular weight of LSD-I, which is composed of two identical subunits, was estimated to be 94,000. LSD-I contained 1 g atom of iron per 1 mol of enzyme protein. 相似文献

Voluntary motor drive is an important central command that descends via the corticospinal tract to initiate muscle contraction. When electrical stimulation (ES) is applied to an antagonist or agonist muscle, it changes the agonist muscle’s representative motor cortex and thus its voluntary motor drive. In this study, we used a reaction time task to compare the effects of weak and strong ES of the antagonist or agonist muscle during the premotor period of a wrist extension. We recorded motor evoked potentials (MEPs) induced by transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) that was applied to the extensor carpi radialis (ECR; agonist) and flexor carpi radialis (FCR; antagonist). When stronger ES intensities were applied to the antagonist, the MEP control ratio in the ECR significantly increased during the premotor time. Furthermore, the MEP control ratio with stronger antagonist ES intensity was significantly larger than that in the agonist for the same ES intensity. In the FCR, the MEP control ratio was also significantly greater at the strong ES intensity than at the weak ES intensity. Furthermore, the MEP control ratio in the antagonist with a strong ES intensity was significantly larger than that in the agonist with the same ES intensity. These results suggest that agonist corticomotor excitability might be enhanced by ES of the antagonist, which in turn strongly activates the descending motor system in the preparation of agonist contraction. 相似文献

2-Alkenyl- and 2-vinyl-5-pyrimidyl alkanols are highly enantioselective asymmetric autocatalysts with significant amplification of enantiomeric excess in the enantioselective addition of diisopropylzinc to 2-alkenyl- and 2-vinylpyrimidine-5-carbaldehydes. Consecutive asymmetric autocatalysis starting from 7% ee increases the ee of pyrimidyl alkanol up to 99% without the need for any other chiral auxillary. 相似文献

The newly characterized cytokine IL-38 (IL-1F10) belongs to the IL-1 family of cytokines. Previous work has demonstrated that IL-38 inhibited Candida albicans-induced IL-17 production from peripheral blood mononuclear cells. However, it is still unclear whether IL-38 is an inflammatory or an anti-inflammatory cytokine. We generated anti-human IL-38 monoclonal antibodies in order to perform immunohistochemical staining and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. While human recombinant IL-38 protein was not cleaved by recombinant caspase-1, chymase, or PR3 in vitro, overexpression of IL-38 cDNA produced a soluble form of IL-38 protein. Furthermore, immunohistochemical analysis showed that synovial tissues obtained from RA patients strongly expressed IL-38 protein. To investigate the biological role of IL-38, C57BL/6 IL-38 gene-deficient (?/?) mice were used in an autoantibody-induced rheumatoid arthritis (RA) mouse model. As compared with control mice, IL-38 (?/?) mice showed greater disease severity, accompanied by higher IL-1β and IL-6 gene expression in the joints. Therefore, IL-38 acts as an inhibitor of the pathogenesis of autoantibody-induced arthritis in mice and may have a role in the development or progression of RA in humans. 相似文献
