Neuronal spike activity in the substantia innominata was investigated when establishing the instrumental conditioned reflex of lever-pressing with food reinforcement during chronic experiments on cats. Spike activity changed in 44.3% of neurons during this process; 24.3% responded directly to conditioned acoustic stimulation. Reactions associated with conditioned reflex movement were less pronounced. Response of peak intensity and duration was observed during food reinforcement, when the reaction occasionally occurred 500 msec in advance of the reinforcement provided. Involvement of cholinergic substantia innominata neurons in reinforcement is thought to be responsible for the persistence of residual effects in neocortical neurons.A. A. Responses of cortical neurons in the posterior sigmoid gyrus to stimulation of two points of the ventro-posterolateral nucleus were investigated in cats immobilized with D-tubocurarine. Some neurons responding to stimulation of one point of this nucleus with a latent period of 2.5–4 msec, were activated by stimulation of the other point after 10 msec or longer. Conditioning stimulation of one point facilitated or inhibited the response to test stimulation of the other point. The facilitatory effect was usually exhibited if the response latency exceeded 5 msec. It is concluded that a cortical input neuron for some afferent fibers is activated by other similar afferent fibers only after intracortical relay. The system of "input" cortical neurons is thus not only a structural, but also to some extent a functional, concept; under certain conditions an incoming afferent volley activates them only polysynaptically. 相似文献

In chronic experiments on cats, the effects were investigated of iontophoretic application of the adrenomimetic ephedrine and the -blocker obsidan (propranolol) on neuronal response induced in the motor cortex by conditioned stimulus presentation during performances of instrumental lever-pressing response. Inhibition of background firing activity and response in most neurons induced by conditioned stimuli was produced by ephedrine, whereas obsidan application enhanced this activity. It was concluded that steady, tonic inhibitory action of the noradrenergic system on background and induced firing activity in cortical neurons takes place during free-ranging behavior. Temporary reinforcement of noradrenergic influences could be an important element in mechanisms of external inhibition during stressful situations, aversive effects, and distractive stimuli.A. A. mtDNA diversity in rhesus monkeys reveals overestimates of divergence time and paraphyly with neighboring species 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Reconstructions of the human-African great ape phylogeny by using
mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) have been subject to considerable debate. One
confounding factor may be the lack of data on intraspecific variation. To
test this hypothesis, we examined the effect of intraspecific mtDNA
diversity on the phylogenetic reconstruction of another Plio- Pleistocene
radiation of higher primates, the fascicularis group of macaque (Macaca)
monkey species. Fifteen endonucleases were used to identify 10 haplotypes
of 40-47 restriction sites in M. mulatta, which were compared with similar
data for the other members of this species group. Interpopulational,
intraspecific mtDNA diversity was large (0.5%- 4.5%), and estimates of
divergence time and branching order incorporating this variation were
substantially different from those based on single representatives of each
species. We conclude that intraspecific mtDNA diversity is substantial in
at least some primate species. Consequently, without prior information on
the extent of genetic diversity within a particular species, intraspecific
variation must be assessed and accounted for when reconstructing primate
phylogenies. Further, we question the reliability of hominoid mtDNA
phylogenies, based as they are on one or a few representatives of each
species, in an already depauperate superfamily of primates.

The dynamics of glucose content and activity of GL-6-FDG, MDG, ICDG and of catalase in the erythrocytes of healthy people under glucose load was investigated. It has been established that maximal increase of the glucose content in blood under glucose load occurs 60 min later and the peak of activity of all the studied enzymes--90 min later. A degree of the activity increase in certain enzymes is not the same. It enhances considerably in GL-6-FDG and catalase and is hardly tracable in MDG and ICDG. A conclusion is made that glucose metabolism in erythrocytes is accompanied by the intensification of synthesis and hydrogen peroxide decomposition processes. 相似文献

Changes in conditioned impulse reactions of neurons in sensorimotor cortex were studied during microiontophoretic application of glutamatergic and GABA ergic agonistic and antagonistic drugs. It was shown that ionotropic glutamate receptors (AMPA and NMDA) are activated by a conditioned stimulus. Not only large pyramidal neurons of deep cortical layers but surrounding short-axon inhibitory interneurons are involved in the reaction. It was shown that the activity of pyramidal neurons is under a constant inhibitory control from surrounding interneurons. Vanilloid receptors 1 (VRs1) expressed in a subpopulation of sensory neurons and responsible for processing of chemical and
thermal noxious stimuli were also shown to be expressed in several cerebral structures and to be involved in the regulation
of glutamatergic synaptic transmission. In this study, we started to investigate the possibility that VRs1 are also involved
in the regulation of GABA-ergic synaptic transmission. For this purpose, the effect of a VR1 agonist, capsaicin, on spontaneous
GABA-ergic inhibitory postsynaptic currents (IPSCs) was studied in hippocampal cell cultures using a patch-clamp technique.
It was found that capsaicin (10 μM) decreased both the frequency and amplitude of spontaneous IPSCs. This finding suggests
the involvement of VRs1 in the regulation of neuronal firing in some GABA-ergic interneurons and in the modulation of the
efficacy of GABA-ergic synaptic transmission. However, considering the direction of the effect (a decrease in the IPSC frequency)
and lack of its desensitization, the involvement of other receptor(s) also cannot currently be ruled out.

Maternal obesity results in a number of obstetrical and fetal complications with both immediate and long-term consequences. The increased prevalence of obesity has resulted in increasing numbers of women of reproductive age in this high-risk group. Since many of these obese women have been subjected to hypercaloric diets from early childhood we have developed a rodent model of life-long maternal obesity to more clearly understand the mechanisms that contribute to adverse pregnancy outcomes in obese women. Female Sprague Dawley rats were fed a control diet (CON--16% of calories from fat) or high fat diet (HF--45% of calories from fat) from 3 to 19 weeks of age. Prior to pregnancy HF-fed dams exhibited significant increases in body fat, serum leptin and triglycerides. A subset of dams was sacrificed at gestational day 15 to evaluate fetal and placental development. The remaining animals were allowed to deliver normally. HF-fed dams exhibited a more than 3-fold increase in fetal death and decreased neonatal survival. These outcomes were associated with altered vascular development in the placenta, as well as increased hypoxia in the labyrinth. We propose that the altered placental vasculature may result in reduced oxygenation of the fetal tissues contributing to premature demise and poor neonatal survival. 相似文献
