The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the semen quality traits of purebred male rabbits and their crosses under subtropical Egyptian conditions. A full 3 x 3 diallel crossing was performed for producing the first generation progeny of New Zealand White (N), Flander (F) and Rex (R) breeds. The highest ejaculate volume (p< 0.05) and percentage of live sperms (p<0.01) with the lowest percentage of sperm cell morphological abnormalities (p<0.05) had been recorded in the NF bucks. Moreover, they possessed positive estimates of direct heterosis for ejaculate volume, mass motility (Mm), individual motility (Im) and sperm cell concentration (SCC). On the contrary, pH had negative estimates of direct heterosis in all crosses and their reciprocal. Semen pH was negatively correlated with SCC (r = -0.18), Mm (r = -0.13) and Im (r = -0.23). In conclusion, the superiority of crossbreeding was particularly obvious in the New Zealand White x Flander males, which cumulated heterosis and favorable maternal effects of the Flander dams. 相似文献

The respective effects of meristem temperature, vapour pressuredeficit (VPD) and photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD)on leaf elongation rate (LER) of maize, in the absence of waterdeficit in the soil have been quantified. This analysis wascarried out in a series of field experiments in northern andsouthern France over several seasons and years, and in growthchamber experiments. LER was measured with 10 min steps, togetherwith meristem temperature, VPD and PPFD at leaf level in threetypes of experiments: in growth chamber experiments with stepsin PPFD or VPD at constant meristem temperature, in growth chamberexperiments with several combinations of constant, but contrasting,PPFDs, VPDs and meristem temperatures, and in the field withfluctuating conditions, (i) When evaporative demand was low(night or day with low air VPD), LER was only linked to meristemtemperature, regardless of other climatic conditions, (ii) Lighthad no effect per se on LER in the range from 0 to 1500 molm2 s1 for time-scales longer than 2 h, providedthat its indirect effects on meristem temperature and on evaporativedemand were corrected (in the growth chamber) or taken intoaccount (in the field), and provided that cumulated PPFD overa weekly time-scale was compatible with field conditions, (iii)Evaporative demand sensed by growing leaves, as estimated bymeristem-to-air vapour pressure difference, markedly affectedLER in the range from 14 kPa, at all time-scales understudy, with a unique relationship in the growth chamber (constantconditions) and in the field (fluctuating conditions). Thiseffect was only observed when PPFD was high enough for stomatato open. The negative effect of evaporative demand on LER wasprobably not due to long distance root-to-shoot signalling,since soil was wet, calculated root water potential remainedclose to 0 MPa and concentration of ABA in the xylem sap wasvery low. Therefore, it is proposed to model maize LER witha two-step process, involving the calculation of the maximumLER at a given meristem temperature and then the calculationof the reduction in LER due to evaporative demand. Joint analysisof the whole set of data by using the two equations yieldeda r2 of 0.75. This two-step process would be more accurate thanthe provision of LER from temperature only in cases where airVPD frequently exceeds 2 kPa. Saccharum robustum Brandes & Jesw. ex Grassl has been suggested as the immediate progenitor species of cultivated sugarcane (S. officinarum L.) [4]. Chromosome pairing and assortment in these two species were previously studied by genetic analysis of single-dose DNA markers in parents in and 44 F1 progeny of a cross between euploid, meiotically regular 2n=80S. officinarum LA Purple andS. robustum Mol 5829 [2]. This same population was subsequently clonally propagated and evaluated in replicated trials for quantitative traits important to sugarcane breeders. Numbers of stalks, tasseled stalks, and stalks with smut, and the average diameter of two stalks were determined one day prior to harvest. At harvest, plant material from each plot was weighed and evaluated for pol (sucrose content) and fiber percentages. Clones were significantly different (P<0.01) for all traits analyzed. Associations of 83 single-dose arbitrarily primed PCR genetic markers with quantitative trait loci (QTL) of recorded traits was determined by single-factor ANOVA, and multiple regression. QTL analysis revealed markers significantly (P<0.05) associated with the expression of each trait analyzed. Markers associated with QTL after multiple regression were tested for digenic linear × linear epistatic interactions. The various multilocus models explained between 23% and 58% of the total phenotypic variation and 32% and 76% of the genotypic variation for the various traits. Digenic interactions were uncommon. Implications for marker-assisted selection in sugarcane and sugarcane domestication are discussed. 相似文献

We present a secondary structure model for the entire sequence of mouse 28S rRNA (1) which is based on an extensive comparative analysis of the available eukaryotic sequences, i.e. yeast (2, 3), Physarum polycephalum (4), Xenopus laevis (5) and rat (6). It has been derived with close reference to the models previously proposed for yeast 26S rRNA (2) and for prokaryotic 23S rRNA (7-9). Examination of the recently published eukaryotic sequences confirms that all pro- and eukaryotic large rRNAs share a largely conserved secondary structure core, as already apparent from the previous analysis of yeast 26S rRNA (2). These new comparative data confirm most features of the yeast model (2). They also provide the basis for a few modifications and for new proposals which extend the boundaries of the common structural core (now representing about 85% of E. coli 23S rRNA length) and bring new insights for tracing the structural evolution, in higher eukaryotes, of the domains which have no prokaryotic equivalent and are inserted at specific locations within the common structural core of the large subunit rRNA. 相似文献

To appraise the usefulness of the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique for examining the serological diversity of slow-growing rhizobia, twelve diverse strains from three countries were examined with four antisera. Eleven of the strains were from the cowpea miscellany, and the twelfth was a Rhizobium japonicum strain. Some cowpea strains showed no antigenic relatedness with each other while others were closely related, and some showed a greater affinity with the R. japonicum strain than with other cowpea strains. All of the strains showed antigenic homology to an isolate from a wild Arachis sp., while two strains isolated from adjacent plants of the same cultivar had little homology. These patterns ofrelatedness and diversity clearly demonstrated the utility of the ELISA method, and so it was used to examine 53 strains isolated from cowpeas grown at three West African locations, Maradi (Niger), Ibadan and Onne (Nigeria). Broad ranges of serological diversity were found in the rhizobia at each location, moreover each population had its own general characteristics. Maradi strains were highly reactive with the five antisera used, Onne strains less so, and Ibadan strains even less so. During a program of screening rhizobia from West Africa, it was found that some strains produced nodules of unusually dark appearance on cowpeas, but not on peanuts, soybeans, pigeon peas, or mung beans. The dark pigmentation was in the bacteroid zone, was not correlated with nodule effectiveness, and was additional to the leghemoglobin pigment. Only rhizobial strains with a nongummy (“dry”) colony morphology produced dark nodules. Visually distinguishable pink and dark nodules formed on the same root when a mixture of pink and dark strains was applied as inoculum. The dark-nodule phenotype was therefore appraised as a marker and found to be useful for studying nodulation competition with strains of the orthodox pink-nodule type. The competitiveness of 10 pink-nodule strains was examined relative to a black-nodule strain, IRc 256; a range of competitiveness was obtained of less competitive than, equally competitive to, or more competitive than IRc 256. Patterns of primary (early) nodulation were generally the same as patterns of secondary (later) nodulation. Mixed infections by dark and pink strains produced piebald nodules, the frequency of occurrence of which was much greater among primary than among secondary nodules. 相似文献

Mammary gland growth patterns were studied in 110 guinea pigs during the growth phase, pregnancy and lactation. Body weight changes were studied and, in addition, mammary indices were wet weight, dry fat-free tissue (DFFT), deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA). Statistical analyses were mathematical regression models to best fit the actual data. These included linear, quadratic, cubic, and several forms of exponential regression models. Data were separated into growth phase (60 guinea pigs in 10 age groups), pregnancy (20 guinea pigs in 4 groups), and lactation (30 guinea pigs in 6 groups). Data during pregnancy and the first 5 days of lactation were pooled and analyzed also because mammary growth continued beyond pregnancy to Day 5 of lactation. Mammary wet weight increased according to a cubic expression in the growth phase, while mammary DFFT, DNA and RNA were rectilinear through 200 days of age. During pregnancy and the first 5 days of lactation, mammary growth parameters followed the pattern of an exponential equation. Daily rates of increase for mammary DFFT and DNA were twice the rate for mammary wet weight. During lactation, mammary gland indices increased to Day 5 and then decreased gradually from Day 10 to Day 20. The best mathematical models for these change were those which are used to describe lactation curves, but all mammary gland indices decreased later and more gradually than milk production. Comparisons in growth rates of guinea pig mammary glands were made with those published for dairy goats and dairy cows. The parasitic incidence of Opius concolor (Hymenoptera, Braconidae) on a replacement host, Ceratitis capitata (Diptera, Trypetidae) was studied using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and immunoelectrophoresis methods. A noticeable modification of C. capitata proteins was observed when parasited by O. concolor. But the most important phenomenon is the finding of common antigens between the host and the parasite.
