Sunflower honey (SH) is bright yellow, fragrant, pollen-flavoured, slightly herbaceous and has a unique taste. The present research aims to examine the enzyme inhibitory, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anti-quorum sensing activities and phenolic compositions of 30 sunflower honeys (SHs) produced from several regions of Turkey with chemometric study. SAH from Samsun exhibited the best antioxidant activity in β-carotene linoleic acid (IC50: 7.33±0.17 mg/mL) and CUPRAC (A0.50: 4.94±0.13 mg/mL) assays, anti-urease activity (60.63±0.87 %) and anti-inflammatory activity against COX-1 (73.94±1.08 %) and COX-2 (44.96±0.85 %). SHs exhibited mild antimicrobial activity against the test microorganisms while they showed high quorum sensing inhibition zones measured in the range of 42–52 mm against the CV026 strain. The phenolic composition was determined by high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection (HPLC-DAD) system and levulinic, gallic, p-hydroxybenzoic, vanillic and p-coumaric acids were identified in all studied SHs. The classification of SHs was performed the using PCA and HCA. This study revealed that phenolic compounds and biological properties are effective in classification of SHs according to their geographical origin. The results suggest that studied SHs could be valued as potential agents with versatile bioactivities in oxidative stress-related disease, microbial infections, inflammation, melanoma, and peptic ulcer.  相似文献

The relative amounts of Concanavalin A (Con A) bound by gamete and vegetative flagella of both mating types (mt + and mt -) of Chlamydomonas eugametos were determined using 125I-Con A. Con A agglutinated all cell types by cross-linking their flagella in a random manner. No correlation was found between the extent of Con A-binding and Con A-mediated isoagglutination. Con A inhibited the sexual interaction between gametes at various levels. In mt + gametes it blocked sexual agglutination, whereas in mt - gametes it prevented papillar fusion. By SDS-gel electrophoresis nine Con A-binding components were found to be present in flagella. Helichrysum Mill. (Asteraceae) species have been used in folk medicine for thousands of years in the world. The in vitro cytogenetic effects in human lymphocytes of nine Helichrysum taxa used in Turkey folk medicine were investigated. Blood samples were obtained from healthy donors, non-smoking volunteers, which were incubated and exposed to increasing concentrations of methanol extracts of Helichrysum taxa (0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.5 and 1 mg/mL). The inhibitory effects of H. stoechas (L.) Moench subsp. barrelieri (Ten.) Nyman, H. armenium DC. subsp. armenium, H. armenium DC. subsp. araxinum (Kirp.) Takht., H. plicatum DC. subsp. plicatum, H. compactum Boiss. and H. artvinense P.H.Davis & Kupicha on the mitotic index and replication index indicate that these taxa can have genotoxic and mutagenic effects. They should therefore not be used freely in alternative medicine although their antiproliferative activity may suggest anticarcinogenic properties. Increase effects of H. stoechas subsp. barrelieri, H. armenium subsp. armenium, H. armenium subsp. araxinum, H. chasmolycicum P.H.Davis, H. plicatum subsp. plicatum, H. compactum and H. artvinense on the micronucleus rates showed that these taxa can have genotoxic and carcinogenic effects.  相似文献

Karyotypic characters, mitotic metaphase chromosomes, monoploid idiograms and karyograms of Minuartia anatolica (Boiss.) Woronow var. phrygia (Bornm.) McNeill, Minuartia anatolica (Boiss.) Woronow var. scleranthoides (Boiss. & Noe) McNeill, Minuartia corymbulosa (Boiss. & Balansa) McNeill var. gypsophilloides McNeill and Minuartia aksoyi M.Koç & Hamzao?lu were investigated for the first time. Analysis of somatic metaphases showed that the chromosome numbers and the formulas of these taxa were 2n = 24 = 14m + 6sm + 4st for Minuartia anatolica var. phrygia, 2n = 14 = 6m + 8sm for Minuartia anatolica var. scleranthoides, 2n = 14 = 6m + 4sm + 4st for Minuartia corymbulosa var. gypsophilloides and 2n = 30 = 14m + 10sm + 6st for Minuartia aksoyi. No satellites were observed in the karyotypes of these taxa. Karyotype asymmetry was estimated by many different methods, namely the Stebbins classification, the karyotype asymmetry index (As K %), the total form percent (TF %), the Rec and Syi indices, the intrachromosomal asymmetry index (A1) and interchromosomal asymmetry index (A2), the dispersion index (DI), the degree of asymmetry of karyotype (A index) and the asymmetry index (AI).  相似文献

Starfish oocytes, eggs, and embryos are popular models for studying meiotic maturation, fertilization, and embryonic development. Their large (170- to 200-microm) oocytes are obtainable in copious amounts and are amenable to manipulations that mammalian oocytes are not. The most formidable obstacle to working with marine oocytes is their seasonal availability, yet a successful means of preserving them for use during the nonreproductive season has not been reported. The aim of this study was to investigate the response of starfish oocytes to freezing with rapid and slow cooling rates under a variety of conditions to develop a cryopreservation protocol for these cells. Cryomicroscopic observation revealed that starfish oocytes in isotonic medium undergo intracellular ice formation (IIF) at very high subzero temperatures, such that the mean difference between the temperature of extracellular ice formation (T(EIF)) and IIF (TI(IF)) was less than 3 degrees C and the average T(IIF) was approximately between -4 and -6 degrees C. Neither partial cellular dehydration nor addition of the cryopreservative dimethyl sulfoxide significantly depressed the T(IIF). Under some conditions, we observed ice nucleation at multiple locations within the cytoplasm, suggesting that several factors contribute to the unusually high T(IIF) during controlled-rate freezing and thus vitrification may be a more suitable method for cryopreserving these cells.  相似文献
