The phylogenetic relationships within the fungus gnat tribe Exechiini have been left unattended for many years. Recent studies have not shed much light on the intergeneric relationship within the tribe. Here the first attempt to resolve the phylogeny of the tribe Exechiini using molecular markers is presented. The nuclear 18S and the mitochondrial 16S, and cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) genes were successfully sequenced for 20 species representing 15 Exechiini genera and five outgroup genera. Bayesian, maximum parsimony and maximum likelihood analyses revealed basically congruent tree topologies and the monophyly of Exechiini, including the genus Cordyla , is confirmed. The molecular data corroborate previous morphological studies in several aspects. Cordyla is found in a basal clade together with Brachypeza , Pseudorymosia and Stigmatomeria . The splitting of the genera Allodiopsis s.l. and Brevicornu s.l. as well as the sistergroup relationship of Exechia and Exechiopsis is also supported. The limited phylogenetic information provided by morphological characters is mirrored in the limited resolution of the molecular markers used in this study. Short internal and long-terminal branches obtained may indicate a rapid radiation of the Exechiini genera during a short evolutionary period. 相似文献

Subspecies complexes may provide valuable insights into the early stages of the speciation process. The bluethroat (Luscinia svecica) consists of many morphologically distinct subspecies that differ most strikingly in the ornamental colour pattern of the male throat. We investigated the genetic and phenotypic differentiation in this subspecies complex, using (i) microsatellite genotyping (11 loci) of a sample of 364 individuals from bluethroat populations in Europe and Asia, and (ii) spectrometric and morphological measurements of a sample of 131 museum skin specimens. Population genetic analyses, based on microsatellite allele frequency variation, revealed a slight but significant overall population differentiation (F(ST) = 0.042). There was a well-differentiated southern group of subspecies with white or no throat spots and a less-differentiated northern group of chestnut-spotted populations. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that the southern all-blue and white-spotted forms are ancestral to the chestnut-spotted subspecies. In addition to the qualitative variation in throat plumage pattern already described in the literature, we found significant quantitative variation among subspecies in hue, chroma and brightness of the ultraviolet (UV)/blue throat coloration, and this variation seemed to be unrelated to the phylogenetic distance between subspecies. 相似文献

The phylogenetic relationships within the fungus gnat subfamily Mycetophilinae (Diptera) are addressed using a combined morphological and molecular approach. Twenty-four species, representing nine genera of the tribe Mycetophilini and 15 genera of the tribe Exechiini, were included in the study. Analyses include nucleotide sequences of mitochondrial (cytochrome oxidase I and 16S), and nuclear (18S and 28S rDNA) genes, in addition to 65 morphological characters. A combined parsimony analysis, including all characters, supports the monophyly of the subfamily Mycetophilinae and two of its tribes, Exechiini and Mycetophilini. There is also statistical support for a Mycetophila- group and a Phronia- group within the tribe Mycetophilini. The Phronia- group includes the genera Phronia , Macrobrachius and Trichonta . The Mycetophila- group includes the genera Mycetophila , Epicypta , Platurocypta , Sceptonia and Zygomyia . A Bayesian analysis based on the nucleotide sequences alone also support these clades within Mycetophilini except for the position of Dynatosoma which is recovered as the sister taxon to the Phronia- group. A somewhat different pattern, however, is observed for the tribe Exechiini – neither molecular data nor the combined data set support unambiguously any intergeneric relationships within Exechiini. 相似文献

Birds are a taxonomically well-described group of animals, yet DNA barcoding, i.e., the molecular characterization of species
using a standardized genetic marker, has revealed unexpected patterns of genetic divergences among North American birds. We
performed a comprehensive COI (cytochrome c oxidase subunit I) barcode survey of 296 species of Scandinavian birds, and compared genetic divergences among 78 trans-Atlantic
species whose breeding ranges include both Scandinavia and North America. Ninety-four percent of the Scandinavian species
showed unique barcode clusters; the remaining 6% had overlapping barcodes with one or more congeneric species, which may reflect
incomplete lineage sorting or a single gene pool. Four species showed large intra-specific divergences within Scandinavia,
despite no apparent morphological differentiation or indications of reproductive isolation. These cases may reflect admixture
of previously isolated lineages, and may thus warrant more comprehensive phylogeographic analyses. Nineteen (24%) of 78 trans-Atlantic
species exhibited divergent genetic clusters which correspond with regional subspecies. Three of these trans-Atlantic divergences
were paraphyletic. Our study demonstrates the effectiveness of COI barcodes for identifying Scandinavian birds and highlights
taxa for taxonomic review. The standardized DNA barcoding approach amplified the power of our regional studies by enabling
independently obtained datasets to be merged with the established avian barcode library. 相似文献

Concentrations of pigments in needles of yellowish Norway spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst] trees suffering from either N, Mg or K deficiency in field sites in southeast Norway are reported. The yellowish
trees had a considerably lower (roughly 50%) pigment concentration, as well as a lower chlorophyll/carotenoid ratio, compared
to green trees within the same sites. Yellowing was interpreted as a general bleaching of colour, as well as a slight turn
from the green (chlorophylls) towards yellow (lutein). Concentrations of pigments were highly intercorrelated. N deficiency
was especially associated with low α-carotene concentrations. This was interpreted as α-carotene being the most sensitive
pigment to stress. However, this pigment might be specifically sensitive to N deficiency. Carbohydrate concentrations were
slightly higher in yellowish trees.
